all involve safety risks for officers other drivers and people police are trying to catch. today, departments chose to ball back and let the driver get stuck on a dead end street the driver of this stolen delivery truck led officers on a chase down bouncy dirt roads near train tracks, at freeway speeds along bridges and down city streets, watching as he is on their side of the road. police say two men stole a newspaper truck. >> san francisco police chased them down. at 9:00 a.m is where patrol officers took over. in the east bay on the 880 freeway, the driver veers through traffic. then, in hayward serving into

traffic lanes. the passenger bailed out and the pursuit ended in san leandro. and looked as if the police could intercept the truck. >> speeds were too high on that freeway. >> officers could not get ahead of the truck. in the end, police from several departments saturated this neighborhood where the driver tried to run away by jumping over backyard fences. he was hiding under a bridge. police tell me the driver was

not hurt. tonight the two culprits are now in custody. dan? >> thank you very much. that passenger appeared to be smoking during the beginning of the pursuit. he bailed then the driver stopped in san leandro. you can see the officer. we're waiting to hear what charges the men face but we know they include charges of the driver trying to hit one of them. >> here is what happened when a driver won't stop for a state park ranger. he was killed when his pick up plunged 75 feet in the ocean. the patrol was investigating whether the driver was impaired

dramatic video from southern california. two mountain bikers in los angeles county took off around 2:00 yesterday afternoon, and when they didn't return families reported them missing. one of their cell phones pinged. it's not clear why they won't be reached they were air lifted to safety by a fire department helicopter.

both appeared to be okay. >> we now have a series of storms rolling through the bay area this month. officials say damage from flooding and winds reached $13.3 million. nearly $4 million is in private damages involving 34 homes and 11 businesses. >> that rain washed away some of the smart train track beds in marin and sonoma counties. >> when put into a context of a 70 mile railroad, this water logged section hardly represents the end of the world.

governor brown an opportunity to appoint three new people to the board and put his stamp on health care in the state. it's been criticized for it's complex sign up procedures, spotty customer service and not attracting enough latinos the governor's health and human services secretary calls it an opportunity for better care, and lower costs. >> opponents of california's ban on plastic bags turned in signatures to overturn the law. american progressionive bag alliance is behind the drive to dispose of the ban before it takes affect. they submitted 800,000 signatures for a ballot initiative. they need 500,000 valid signatures to qualify. >> at the end of the day if there is a vote on that bring it on. we're not afraid of a vote we know the public supports this. we're confident we can prevail. >> if there are enough
