>> moments ago in paris, france's president expressed pride in his country's police following the resolution of more terrorist attacks in france. several hostages were taken at two different sites. several were killed others were freed in dramatic police raids. good morning. i'm kristen sze. >> i'm cheryl jennings. today's attacks come two days after gunmen stormed the charlie hebdo magazine in paris and killed 12 people. abc 7 news anchor has the latest. >> reporter: we're getting conflicting information about whether anyone was harmed or if they escaped harm. but we know thousands of police officers were deployed across france in search for the two terrorist suspects. while police arrived, another

hostage drama was unfolding a 15 minute drive away. gunfire and smoke at the small printing company where police say the two suspects in this week's terror attack in paris were killed. investigators at the scene 20 miles north of the city say cherif and said kouachi took a hostage. that man is now safe. but while police negotiated the small town was on lockdown. even the nearby airport, one of the busiest in the world shut down several runways based on reports that the terror suspects might have a rocket propelled grenade launcher that could bring down a plane. many schools in the area were evacuated. others sheltered in place. >> stay in the high school and to be calm. >> reporter: minutes after police stormed the print shop officers raided a kosher supermarket east of paris.

a suspect was holding five hostages. police shot and killed him his hostages were not harmed. he was also suspected of killing a female police officer during the paris attack. investigators say he is connected to the kouachis, and the attack on the publication charlie hebdo as well as the shooting rampage there that claimed 12 lives. the supermarket incident another suspect in that crime, a 26-year-old, somehow slipped away amid all the confusion and police are looking for her. although this bloody terror attack is apparently resolved france is still on pins and needles. worried that this may not be the end of the attacks, that it may be just the beginning. cheryl kristen? >> eric thank you. overwhelming relief and concern for what is next. that's the reaction of many french nationals living in the bay area who spoke to abc 7 news shortly after french authorities shot and killed the last two suspected wanted in the massacre.

>> i think people are worried on the longer term about that. for now we are relieved. relieved that, you know, there is no -- those guys are not anymore in the streets. they are relieved about that for sure. >> he says many french business owners and those living in san francisco's dog patch neighborhood have come together since the tragedy. they also hope authorities can quickly figure out who is exactly is ultimately behind the terrorist attack. >> it is sad they killed them because we would like to see them go to trial. but, i mean, it is good they caught them. >> i'm glad this crisis is over for today. i'm very worried about my friends in paris and i know that they're very frightened and i hope that this is the end of this activity for now. >> guests have spent most of the morning getting updates on the latest from paris watching the news and discussing events with each other, trying to process what has happened and what it

means for the future. here is how it stands right now. french police raided two different hostage scenes 25 miles apart. they killed two terror suspects brothers at the first raid. and a printing plant north of paris. police say these are the same people who gunned down 12 people two days ago at the charlie hebdo magazine in paris. police are trying to find a woman connected to the attacks and french police say they killed a terrorist at a kosher market on paris' east side. a french tv channel says two hostage takers told them that cherif kouachi was commissioned by al qaeda in yemen. the station says the terrorist at the kosher supermarket told them he belonged to the terrorist group isis. we'll have continuing coverage of the terrorist attack in paris on air and online at abc 7 news.com. we'll bring you any major developments as we learn about them. our reporting continues on twitter. in other news the clock is

ticking toward tonight's closure of the golden gate bridge. come midnight, a huge safety improvement project a long time in the making will begin. lasting through monday morning. alisa harrington is live at the bridge making ultimate plans. alisa? >> reporter: right now the yellow pilons are the only things that separate north and southbound lanes of traffic on the golden gate bridge. you can see they're plastic hollow and only about four inches wide. but new concrete barriers are designed to prevent head on collisions on the bridge and potentially -- driving over the golden gate bridge is about to look a whole lot different. the yellow pilons will be gone. in their place, a moveable concrete barrier. to install it the entire bridge will be closed to traffic from 11:59 until 4:00 a.m. on monday. but don't wait until the last minute to cross. the access roads will start closing down in the 11:00 hour.

the parking lots on both ends of the bridge will also close much earlier this evening. >> reporter: the barrier is 12 inches wide. betty tool who lived in marin since the 1960s said it is inconvenient but a necessary improvement. >> there are going to be about 200 people at the memorial, many coming from the city and so it is having a tremendous effect because they're going to have to go through the richmond bridge. >> reporter: while many are dreading the closure and congestion that is expected to go with it kathleen andreesen welcomes it. the sidewalk will be open to pedestrians and cyclists. >> we're excited about it because we're hikers and bike riders. we think of it as an opportunity to enjoy the headlands without the traffic. >> reporter: you're looking at the zipper truck that will be

and from the bay bridge the morning commute southbound 880 silicon valley evening drive out of silicon valley on 68 over the snow bay and i have to tell you, if you've never drove that one, that one is a real treat. >> the mtc says it is working to activate more ramp lights and install traffic cameras and speed centers to help with all that congestion. it is also launching a new interactive website on the 28th that will allow anybody to log in and see how traffic is flowing live in your area. >> the controversial keystone xl oil pipeline project is a step closer to reality this morning. the republican controlled house overwhelmingly passed a bill authorizing the pipeline that would carry oil from canada to the gulf coast. the gop controlled senate now has a test vote on monday with enough support to pass it. also today nebraska's highest court tossed out a lawsuit challenging the pipeline's route. the white house had been threatening a veto, partly based on that case.

in sacramento, governor brown unveiled a record $113 billion state spending plan. the college systems are complaining he's not giving them enough even though he's insisting the uc's not increased tuition. he's also adding another billion dollars to the state's rainy day savings fund. california faced more than $26 billion budget deficit. governor brown took office in 2011. that deficit has been eliminated with billions of dollars in cuts and an improving economy. >> administrators and students in the bay area are reacting to president obama's sweeping proposal this morning. he wants the government to pick up the tab and make community college affordable to everyone. the president is facing some huge obstacles. matt keller joins us. >> reporter: more details still need to come out along with the

sport of governments and republicans. president obama used facebook to make a big announcement to social media's prime demographic, college students. he's calling for the state and federal government to pay for the first two years about community college. >> what i would like to do is see the first two years of community college free for everybody who is willing to work for it. that's right. free for everybody who is willing to work for it. it is something we can accomplish and it is something that will train our workforce so we can compete with anybody in the world. >> reporter: that means students must have a mentor complete eight hours of community service per term and maintain a 2.0 gpa. this morning, the chancellor of the san jose ever green college district told me she was elated to hear about the president's proposal. >> i think he gets the fact that community colleges are enormously significant for the nation. >> reporter: 18,000 students in the district already get a good deal on their education, spending $130080 per year in

a united airlines flight hit a bird this morning and had to make an emergency landing in sacramento. the plane was headed from sacramento to denver and was seven miles away from the airport when it struck the bird and had to turn around. the plane did land safely. no one on board was hurt. still not clear whether a santa rosa climber will forge on

today in his attempt to ascend el capitan. his fellow climber kept climbing. joerg son stopped climbing earlier after getting several severe cuts on his right hand. the santa rosa native has to decide whether to give up the pursuit or ask caldwell to wait for them. if they make it, they will be the first ever to free climb that very challenging wall. we want him to be safe. challenger ergeologists planned to measure a earthquake. they will see if the noise from the fans at the playoff game tomorrow can create any seismic activity. officials created a website where you can monitor the earthquake activity live during tomorrow's game. the pacific northwest seismic network will use this trial to help with an early warning system.

pregnant and gives birth an hour later. this mother says she found out earlier this week doctors ran routine tests, didn't find anything. after taking an ultrasound, they found something. they rushed her into labor. doctors delivered a ten pound two ounce little ellie just over an hour later. >> i started to feel like i had put on some weight but, you know i thought maybe it was christmas. >> people say how could you not have known? if you've never experienced it before, they don't know what they're experiencing or feeling. >> she took an immediate maternity leave from work. >> she said all she had was weight gain before the baby was born. >> holidays. >> no back pain, you know, no kicking? >> i shouldn't comment. i'm not going to. i can't say anything correct. my wife didn't have that easy of an pregnancy with either of our kids. >> you knew she was punching you

all the time, right? this is your fault. >> i could see the kids punching her, arms and legs moving. that was cool. >> better weather? >> trying to get cleaner air. really are. temperatures go down a little bit. good morning, everybody. that's going to also signal a little chance of some cleaner air rolling in. now you see the haze hanging around. four miles visibility concord oakland and half moon bay. oakland has the worst air quality right now. we look at the winds, still nice and barely off shore at the surface. even though up above you can see they're clearly coming out of the south. that's causing the clouds and more moisture. that's why it is so mild this morning. all the moisture is translating into scattered light showers across the central valley into the western slope and even a flurry or two up in tahoe. nothing is going to materialize, that will help the snow pack that is now down to 41%. do see a little clearing here. i'm expecting us to get a little more sunshine as we head into the afternoon hours. if you want to take some pictures from the golden gate

bridge, today is the last day before it closes. it is not the greatest day to be out there taking pictures, but at least it is not too breezy either. temperatures running mainly in the low to mid-50s, places like fremont, los gatos upper 50s there. close to where we should be. as far as visibility, look at that. it is just mucky outside. yucky and, yeah, just not good. brighter this afternoon. if you get through the haze. slightly cooler that's our first forecast. chance of drizzle, sprinkle sunday and monday and sunny and warmer most of next week until we get maybe a better chance of rain friday and saturday. a week away still. low to mid-60s, highs for today well above average. you can see we'll be mainly in the mid-40s to 50s. wake up tomorrow, pretty mild once again. here is a look at weak disturbances, this is one we'll focus on. this will slide down to southern california, pick up moisture keep us in the subtle flow and the reason why we'll have the potential for some sprinkles and
