into the city here at the toll plaza but the whole reason why the whole bridge is shut down for the weekend is because of that gray barrier right there. that is the new center divide. it has been installed as of this afternoon. and a little bit further up over there towards the beginning of the bridge you can see the zipper truck is right there to help adjust some of this center barrier this evening. with all the pieces of the new center divider installed on the golden gate bridge the if you zipper truck in place to properly adjust the tension of each piece. bridge engineer eva bower says the zipper truck will mick a few passes over the new divider tonight. >> the first time the machine goes through the full length of the barrier is really few steps forward and maybe one step back forward and maybe one step back. el. >>reporter: traffic in the first full day of the closure is mostly uneventful. there has been about the same number of golden gate transit bus riders as usual but on the ferry riders double.

barrier on the bridge where the zipper truck make runs to tighten the tension on the barrier. sergio is live with a look at today's progress. sergio? >>reporter: along with the instance litigation of that center barrier there's also whole lot of other work that's going on and we have been watching some of that this evening. you can see the crew members here what they are doing is measuring so they can start restriping along with this new barrier. we have also been watching them as they are filling in some of the peg hole here on the bridge. right there that center divider it has been installed. that's the main reason why this bridge was shut down for the entire weekend and as we mav along up towards the bridge itself you will see in the distance over there that is the new zipper truck that has been adjusting the tension on these new de divider pieces. that zipper truck is seeing a lot of action to. that new truck already used tonight to prp easterly adjust the tension of each
