robin and lara on location. lara in l.a. for the golden globes. hollywood's biggest stars having a lot of fun last night. there were plenty of surprises, too. >> robin is standing by for another huge event happening tonight in arlington. the biggest game in college football ever. oregon versus ohio state. so much anticipation for this. good morning to you, robin. >> reporter: good morning, amy and george. yes, the globes were the place to be last night. tonight it's right here. this morning as well. and this is what they're all playing for, george. >> oh, it looks good. we can't wait to get back. but we are going to begin now with that urgent new warning. concerns about terror attacks here after the massacre in paris. abc's brian ross starts us off. good morning, brian. >> reporter: good morning, george. the terror aftershocks have now hit the u.s. this morning. police put on alert amid fears that a new round of terror attacks here could be in the works.

in new york city police are being warned that individual followers of al qaeda and isis could strike now. a command bulletin says muslims are being asked to rise up and kill intelligence officers, police officers, soldiers and civilians. officials say they know of no specific threat. but they are pointing to this video posted over the weekend, essentially a remix of an isis threat issued last september. but still of concern across the country -- >> the target is to just go out and kill law enforcement and other officials. >> reporter: the concern is heightened by new evidence of the role of al qaeda and isis in the deadly attacks in paris last week. including this so-called martyrdom video hosted online from the gunman who killed five people at the kosher supermarket. with a black jihadist flag behind him, amedy coulibaly swearing allegiance to isis and

saying the attacks were synchronized and then offers thanks in order to finish buying everything necessary. >> i think we learn again, as we did in 9/11, that it doesn't cost much money for terrorist organizations to do this. >> reporter: still being sought today is coulibaly's girlfriend being sought, who went from bikinis to burqas as his alleged partner in terror. french authorities confirmed to abc news today that she fled to syria last week, the day her boyfriend allegedly shot and killed a policewoman. they're searching for a car that they fear could be rigged with explosives george. >> okay, brian ross, thanks very much. france still on high alert after those attacks, stepping up security across the country this morning and we're seeing those brand-new images from the hostages and learning new details about the terrorists. abc's terry moran is in paris this morning with the very latest. good morning, terry. >> reporter: good morning, amy.

i'm right across the street from the kosher market that was attacked. prime minister netanyahu is here. concerns this may not be over. talking about potential accomplices may be out there. deploying 10,000 troops to protect the country, including 4,700 troops specifically assigned to jewish synagogues and schools. a huddled family cradles a child. an incredible scene inside the freezer in that kosher grocery store during the standoff. terrified hostages in hiding. before the final shootout freed them all safely. this video shows police storming the brothers holed up north of paris. forensic teams working inside an apartment rented by amedy coulibaly, the gunman who took hostages at that kosher store. new video just out turn irk tv saying that this is the girlfriend of the gunman who took hostages at the kosher

grocery store. seen here at the istanbul airport. all this after a truly awesome day of demonstrations. more than one million marched in paris and more than three million across france. 40 world leaders here, but no senior american leading to some sharp criticism of president obama in the u.s. press. one more detail from here. reports that the gunman at this market may have been wearing a gopro camera when he attacked it and may have uploaded that video before the final shootout in which he was killed. george. >> terry, thanks very much. as terry mentioned, the white house taking heat for not being there. president obama not there and no top cabinet officials. and as you saw, front pages having a field day. let's go to jon karl at the white house. how is the president's team explaining this. >> well, george, this looks like a missed opportunity for the president to show a powerful symbolic display of unity with the world against terrorism. but what the white house

officials are telling me is that if the president had gone to the march it would have required security that would have distracted from the march and would have interfered with the march and would not have been productive. although, it's worth noting you had more than 40 foreign leaders there and a lot of security. each one of those foreign leaders requires intense security. there was a companion march just a few blocks from the white house. no senior officials took part in that one, either. the white house is pointing out though, george, that the president did go on thursday to the french embassy and expressed solidarity with the french in help in getting to the bottom of this. >> attorney general eric holder in paris yesterday. when i spoke to him yesterday he left the door open to retaliation, along with france, if they can pin down who is responsible for this. >> no doubt. he was over there working with john kerry, the secretary of state will be in paris working with the french on that.

we're going to switch gears now, that take rous morning commute for millions. ice and sleet making roads slippery. abc's linzie janis right in the middle of it in baltimore. good morning, linzie. >> reporter: good morning, george. i-95 right behind me stretches from d.c. to boston and it is shaping up to be a treacherous commute. the d.c. and baltimore areas are under freezing rain advisories. that means when the rain hits the frozen ground, it could form an icy glaze. it's the kind of severe weather already been wreaking havoc in the midwest. this morning icy roads for the commute expected across the country, from arkansas to massachusetts. overnight, an ice storm warning in indianapolis hitting the city with freezing rain and sleet. vehicles sliding off the streets one after another. the east coast i-95 corridor preparing for dangerous travel. >> ice is more treacherous. >> reporter: schools closed

because of icy roads in several states, from ohio to maryland. the messy conditions coming after a week-long stretch of road dangers. new video from that weekend crash in michigan involving nearly 200 vehicles, killing 1 and injuring 23. >> you can't do anything. >> reporter: a reminder of just how hazardous these icy roads can be. authorities in maryland and d.c. are asking drivers to delay or cancel their commutes if possible, and many school districts in the area are on a two-hour delay. a reminder, george, if you have to be on these roads, take it slow. >> good advice there, linzie. now let's go to dan harris with today's top stories. >> good morning everybody. starting with breaking news overnight in the crash of airasia flight 8501. search teams have found both black boxes, retrieving the

flight data recorder which is crucial to figure out why the plane went down two weeks ago. crews working to recover the voice recorder. a scene of true bravery and defiance today as children in pakistan stood up to the fear of terror and went back to school for the first time since the taliban killed nearly 150 of their teachers and classmates last month. students hugging their parents and streaming back into the classrooms of the army school. one young man saying we are not afraid, we will get an education, it is our fundamental right. as we said, very brave. new video this morning of chaos erupting at a nightclub in california after shots fired during a chris brown performance. check it out. many in the crowd ducking for cover at this club in san jose. five people were shot but they are expected to be okay. we don't know what set off that violence. and look at this. terrifying moments for some people visiting a national park in thailand. out of their car window a giant elephant approaching and from another angle the animal

slamming its front feet down on the hood shattering the windshield. nobody got hurt here. the elephant was likely aggressive we're told because it is mating season. there's a joke to be made there but discretion. anyway, finally here, scientific proof that when we don't have our smartphones we pretty much freak out. a new study says parting with your iphone can actually cause separation anxiety. researchers at the university of missouri say iphone users perform better on cognitive tests when they had their phones with them and when they didn't, their heart and blood pressure went up. i think this is malarky. when i don't have my phone with me i'm much more calm and when i do with me, i would have the attention span of a kitten. i don't know what they're talking about. i totally disagree. >> you're an outlier. >> i am? really? all right. okay, now we got to go to robin in arlington for the big game.

the semifinals were thrilling and tonight, in arlington, texas, oregon and ohio state go head to head, vying to become the first-ever college football playoff champion. so, how do these two teams match up? well, the tale of the tape. oregon has a 13-1 overall record this season, so does ohio state. head to head, the two teams first met in the 1958 rose bowl. ohio state is 8-0 all time against oregon. and the buckeyes have won seven national championships and the oregon ducks are looking for their very first. >> to be the first team to win it from oregon would be an incredible deal. >> one story line to watch tonight, ohio state coach urban meyer is no stranger to the big stage. >> you step in a prize fight, you get one swing and the great champions don't miss. >> but this year he comes in with his third-string quarterback. oregon, yep, they have got the newly minted heisman trophy winner, marcus mariota, and a

>> awe. he's a wonderful husband. he's a great filmmaker, a humanitarian and turns out he's also quite a distiller. we'll explain later. let's say the effects were felt far and wide last night and you will see the results coming up. >> the globes are great. they start to get funnier and funnier as people kept drinking. >> back in the bar. >> lara, thanks so much. we turn to a traffic stop gone wrong for one police officer in florida. a woman taking off and dragging that sergeant and injuring him. his daughter first to help him. the entire thing caught on dash cam. abc's reena ninan has the story. >> reporter: watch as this traffic stop takes a turn for the worse. this florida police officer speaking to the driver when he gets taken for a ride. sergeant tatro pulled over 30-year-old amy gorgoi after she flew past him at speeds 30 miles over the limit.

but when he asked her to step out for a field sobriety test. she hit the gas dragging tatro with her before he hit the ground hard. >> don't ever let my guard down. >> reporter: the sergeant left in pain on the roadside. that's when a group of bystanders rushed to his aid. one of the good samaritans, someone the sergeant knows well. that's his 16-year-old daughter fay who passed by the incident on the way home from a trip to the mall. she saw the scene unfold while sitting at a stoplight but wasn't sure it was her dad until she saw him lying there. >> dad, are you okay? >> it made me feel sad i guess. because i know that what he does is for a good reason and i just hope everybody else has a better respect for him. >> reporter: after spending days in the hospital his family is happy to have him back safe and sound this morning especially fay. >> he's been catching up on his sleep.

the boy flails his legs. one ski still attached. adrian delgado shot the video from his cell phone. >> they couldn't pull him because they would be rocking the lift. >> reporter: and then the moment where the boy plummets hitting the snow below, incredibly he's expected to be okay. >> he fell from 20 feet and injured his leg. that has to be a miracle. >> reporter: no word of what caused it. authorities are investigating. and the resort is not commenting. it's not the first slip this season. on the very same day a 5-year-old boy riding on a beginner chair lift by himself in montgomery county, pennsylvania plummeted 30 feet. the boy is reportedly in serious condition after he fell because the rail on his chair was not secure. and last month a similar incident in new york. and just days later, 10-year-old tyler russell fell 20 feet from a lift in oregon. >> then i said my foot is getting tired i'm going to put my foot behind my snowboard and then i was -- too much.

>> reporter: one fall even turning deadly. a 44-year-old brooklyn mother was killed at an upstate new york resort. safety expert told abc's clayton sandell skiers need to make sure they are securely locked in the lift. >> you don't want to wiggle around. you want to get on and sit still. >> reporter: the ski industry says chair lifts are safe and secure noting that deaths are rare, 15 over the last four decades. this morning as more and more families hit the slopes, just double-check you're securely locked in. so a ski lift scare won't happen to you. that really appears to be the big issues here. the owner says the restraint bar was up. there was no malfunction with the ski lift. so good to hear both boys are recovering. one of them was wearing a helmet. >> good news. i make my kids go with the helmets and always put that bar down to the very last second
