dramatic fashion. well, good morning to you. we begin with heightened terror alerts on both sides of the atlantic. >> thousands of armed troops are being deployed across france guarding against the next possible attack as the u.s. military scrambles in the wake of a new cyberattack on u.s. central command's social media sites. >> abc's susan saulny starts us off this morning live from washington. susan, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, reena and t.j. the next issue of "charlie hebdo" is due out tomorrow and staffers say it will contain cartoons of the prophet muhammad. french authorities are on a worldwide hunt for members of the terror cell behind the attacks in paris that left 17 people dead. new video has emerged of at least one that got away, on the right the girlfriend of the gunman at the paris grocery store believed now to be in isis territory in syria. >> she is outside of the reach of french law

enforcement, and it's going to be difficult even to conduct surveillance of her activities while she's in syria. >> reporter: to date, 10,000 troops are stationed on the streets of paris, nearly half guarding synagogues and jewish schools following that attack on the kosher market and other recent anti-semitic incidents. one father shared his young son's anguish. >> he said, please, papa, don't let me go alone. bring me to school. bring me back. >> reporter: concerns about terrorism on the rise at home about what could be another wave attempted airport bombings. >> this group aqap is absolutely determined to take out an attack on a u.s.-bound airplane. >> reporter: the u.s. military faced another terror weapon monday as supposed isis followers took over the twitter feed and the youtube channel of the u.s. central command, headquarters for american efforts against the terrorists. they posted isis videos and this threat, "american soldiers, we are coming, watch your back." the cyberattack was more

embarrassing than harmful but the fbi is still launching a full investigation. reena, t.j. >> all right, susan saulny for us in washington. thank you so much. meantime, the white house is admitting it made the wrong decision by not sending president obama or vice president biden or any other top ranking official to paris this weekend. >> more than 40 heads of states marched through the city on sunday as part of a unity march. more than 3 million participants turned out in a show of defiance against terror. the only noted american official in attendance was the u.s. ambassador to france. >> some have asked whether or not the united states should have sent someone with a higher profile than the ambassador to france, and i think it's fair to say that we should have sent someone with a higher profile to be there. >> however, white house spokesman josh earnest said the outdoor rally was planned with just 36 hours' notice.

he said security precautions for the president are sometimes more onerous than those for other leaders. >> turn to those frightening moments in a washington metro station. right before rush hour, a subway train about 800 feet began filling with smoke. take a look at some of these pictures. riders describing the panic that broke out as passengers hit the floor struggling to breathe. some were trapped on the train for close to an hour before they could be helped to safety. >> gas and smoke just starts piling in, and people are freaking out going everywhere. once we got in the station, we just sprinted for our lives out of there because we had no idea what was happening. we were all so scared. >> one woman died and several others were critically injured. investigators say they think the smoke was caused by an electrical problem in the tunnel. well, new this morning, both black boxes from the airasia crash have now been pulled from the bottom of the java sea. the cockpit voice recorder had been wedged under a part of the plane but it was retrieved this morning. the flight data recorder was recovered a day earlier. they'll now be sent to the indonesian capital of jakarta where investigators are expected to get a second-by-second time

line of the flight. pope francis has kicked off his asian tour in sri lanka this morning. he says the island nation cannot fully heal from a quarter century of ethnic and civil war without pursuing truth and justice. the pope will visit the philippines next. asia's largest roman catholic population. well, for the first time the college football championship was decided by a game, not opinion polls. >> yes, the winner, ohio state, the buckeyes upset the oregon ducks, 42-20. they were led by their quarterback, their third string quarterback, this was only his third start, cardale jones passed for one touchdown, ran for another. >> but the mvp was tailback ezekiel elliott who 246 yards and 4 touchdowns. >> we finally did it. this is why we all came here, to compete and win the national championship, and we did. it is our dream that came true. >> back home the fans got a little rambunctious in columbus.

millions more consumers will get free access soon to their fico credit scores this year. bank of america, chase, citibank and ally financial will offer free credit scores to select customer a perk already enjoyed by discover card holders. the white house announced them yesterday saying a free credit score is a valuable tool to help uncover identity theft. another perk cheap gas. according to gas buddy, 43 states now have at least one gas station selling gas for under $2 a gallon. easier to list the states that don't, delaware connecticut, hawaii vermont and pennsylvania. the national average is $2.14. well acura is back in the performance car business. the brand reintroduced its sports car and take a look at the detroit auto show. after a decade of typical luxury sedans they rolled this out

conditions wet along the southeastern coast and the southern tips of florida and texas. watch out for slippery roads in the rockies and down to new mexico and arizona. well in new mexico two albuquerque police officers have been charged with murder in the shooting death of a mentally ill homeless man. >> last year's four-hour standoff was captured by police helmet and body cams and in it you can see james boyd in the hills over the city where he was camping appearing to follow orders and surrender. the officers opening fire as he turned around. prosecutor avoided a secret grand jury leaving it up to a judge to decide if there's probable cause. >> we have really struggled to be as transparent as we possibly can. unlike ferguson and unlike in new york city you know some recent high-profile cases, we're going to know the public is going to have that information. >> boyd was holding two small knives when he was shot. attorneys for the officers say there was a perceived threat.

they could face up to life in prison. well new york clinic where jones rivers suffered a fatal complication is losing its federal accreditation. the government is crack down on yorkville endoscopy. investigators say it no longer meets necessary conditions to provide surgical services. rivers died in september after she stopped breathing during the procedure. well a washington state teen is probably a little dirty and a lot embarrassed. this morning after spending five hours stuck in the mud along a creek. his friend tried and tried to free him for hours before finally going for help. it took rescue workers using just about every tool they had to try to pull this kid out. ladders, air pressure hands, more water. he wasn't injured but he was stuck. he's all right now. a different rescue in ohio. a dog was caught in the icy waters of the great miami river. the firefighters had to use what you're seeing a special boat the 7-year-old black lab appeared about ready to give up after struggling for a half hour. the dog's temperatures was so

low it robert register. the dog is now we're told doing all right and here a close call for a driver this is near boulder, colorado coming within inches of being swallowed up by a giant sinkhole. the man was on his way to work when the gaping 30-foot hole opened up over an old mine leaving his truck teetering on the edge he kept calm and called police. they used a rope to pull him to safety and kept the truck from falling in the hole. a former nfl player who spent years proving his athleticism on the field is now being celebrated for an amazing feat importanted off the field. >> yeah, and this was no game at all here. rob konrad is his name. he survived a 16-hour, 9-mile swim off the atlantic shoreline. abc's mara schiavocampo with this story. >> reporter: even the hard-hitting world of professional football couldn't prepare former miami dolphins fullback rob konrad for this challenge, the 38-year-old

rescind the pay raise. youngs are angry say they were only able to get 4 percent pay raise approved through the board. the supervisors have structured it so their salaries will now be permanently tied to superior court judgments. those salaries are set by the state. now the supervisors will always make 70 percent of the judicial saturdays. they say that is common practice around the state so they are now the 4th highest paid board in the bay area eight counties. some say it was too much, too soon, and too big of a raise. they do not approve it. they have been angry shouting "shame on you," and, now today a vote is schedule what they should reverse that vote and rescind the raise. >> it is
