live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. thousands of bart passengers were stranded across the bay after witnesses say a man jumped in front of a train at the powell street station in the middle of the morning commute. thanks for joining us. >> bart says train service is slowly getting back to normal. eric thomas joins us from the powell street station with the latest. >> for under two hours this morning service was completely shut down at powell street bart station, completely shut down

no trains going from there. bart called it a "medical merge," but it meant that a person was itbly a train and trapped. police and fire got to the scene but it was too late. we don't know who the deceased is but the impact on bart was massive. trains were stopped at stations and riders did not know of the closing and had to walk to civic center bart if they were going south and walk to montgomery street if they were headed to the east bail. >> we got a call of a person trapped under the rain and got here off loaded the people and splitted the train and confirmed there is one person down. >> they were stuck in the station and they left us in west oakland. i stood there. it took forever. frustrating? >> yes i needed to be to work early. that didn't exactly happen. >> a lot of people were late if

work pus of the closing of the station. as you mentioned, powell secret bart is again open and the trains are moving back and for the. as you mention, bart is saying through a spokesman it appears the deceased jumped in front of the train but the authorities are not making that determination and say they have a lot investigating to do before they can give an official cause of death. thank you eric. major delays with bart across the area making for frustrated passengers. >> an hour and a half at least is how long riders had to wait before giving up and finding another way and the city. it got really included when bart started single tracking and people were not only hoping to get on a train but off a train. >> trains turning around, a lot of people cramming in and extremely hot and a lot of people who didn't want to be on train and who wanted to get on

it. it was very uncomfortable. >> pushing and shoving and getting angry. you know what happens when it is crowd crowded. >> look at the crowd packing the platform at west oakland station with passengers saying they gave up on the rain and used ride share instead. the impact extended well beyond the morning commute even now. >> for conditions we will check with our traffic reporter, leyla gulen. >> thank you what did the major bart delays mean? anything in excess of 20 minutes but we have a 30-minute delay system-wide including muni and a.c. transit to get you from the east bay to san francisco that is running on time. at san francisco the powell secret station is open. trains are running through and stopping here. be aware, it will tack on time to the commute.

how is it affecting the rest of our roads across the bay area and the bay bridge toll plaza? it is busy and 20 minutes to get you from the east bay into san francisco. here is the richmond and san rafael. it is looking empty at this time and the golden gate bridge shows if you are coming in a round about way we are looking at delays but not too bad. it is locking fairly light but i will tell you that car pooling is a better way of getting to the city. our coverage of the story continues right now with our facebook payment and on twitter. mountain view officials are working to get rid of a stipulatinger of a problem with the tap water. amy hollyfield has that story. stingy water because the residents are too well behaveed.

city officials will flush out high traps across the city and you will probably see it in the next day or so, water flow, from these hydrants which doesn't look very drought friendly. >> they tried to put it off as long as they could, california is in a drought. spilling water on to the street doesn't look good but officials could not put it off. >> trying to be conserving water conservation but we still have to operate the system. we cannot survive without doing this. >> what pushed them into the situation was smelly water. customers called and complained their water smelled bad. ironally it happened because people had done such a good job of conserving water. rather than flowing it sat. and got stale. >> in december we experienced our second lowest water use for a month in the last ten years. so what happens with the water movement when the system flow slows down so we feed to flush

to keep the water free. >> it was not unsafe just stinky. >> it is not pleasant. we did water quality tests and it met the standards but the second air part we want the water to be messant for our customers so we decided to flush. >> officials say they will probably spend the next two days flushing out hydrants although it is tough to watch the wart goes down the drain they say this amount is not that significant. >> just a bit of our warm consumption. a very small portion. >> officials safer keep conserving water and residents are doing a from job and will work to fine the right balance. they usually flush the hydrants once a area and they were trying to wait for a your and a half this time but found out that is too long. san jose firefighters are worried people may have been inside a wear husband that was

destroyed by fire this morning. our reporter joins us now where the investigation is underway. despite the fencing squatters are known to frequent the warehouses and witnesses saw two people running from the scene shortly after the fire started. >> a throw alarm fire tore through the abandoned warehouse on san jose's terrain secret near downtown. flames can be seen shooting off the ramp and ingulfing the building. firefighters put up aerial ladder to battle from above. it is unsafe to go inside. >> it took crews three hours to completely put it out. in daylight you can see the damage. weapons are blown out -- windows are blown out and certified gutted. firefighters took these pictures from atop the ladder showing what is left.

seeing total sunshine yet but give it another hour and you will. some of that leaked the fog spot north bay and south on 101 from san rafael you can see how hazy it is from sutro tower as we try to look off to the east. now, the fog has kept us down. inland east bay, mid-to-upper 40's in antioch and livermore and san ramon and same in santa rosa and the rest of us in the low-to-mid fists. half moon bay with the wind and sunshine at 61. most temperatures are cooler than year, 14 degree cooler in livermore but oakland and san francisco eight and two degrees warmer. san jose, 101 at 880, it was is foggy that you did not have the fog today as we talked about year. all of us will have hazy sunshine and a little bit warmer than average highs and sprinkles a chance of light rain in the not bay afternoon friday. to a lesser extent open sunday. most of the weekend is full of high clouds and sunshine and dry. low-to-mid 60's is what we are going have today with high

clouds across the north pay this afternoon. it will be cold inland with mid-30's to low 50's and low-to-mid 40's for the rest of us and look for the fog to make us have a western push deeper than today because the air will not be so dry. more of us will wake up to fog tomorrow and the high pressures the areas of high pressure will hang around all the way through the weekend and there is the chance, north friday a little bit on saturday morning and sunday everything retreats to the north and we could get a chance of purrable rain but it will be less than .1" from petaluma north on friday. that is it. the clouds will various a little -- vary a little bit but will remain low-to-mid 60's through monday. look increase more sunshine in the afternoon. back to you. great story. bay area native and oscar winning actor tom hanks gives a shout out to a local community college in an ophead piece for "new york times" growing up in
