low-to-mid 60's and 56 to 64 inland and at the coast 59 to 63. >> hopefully the inability to see well is not affecting traffic too much. we start off quiet and now it is changing. as the fog is getting thicker, we are seeing accidents. here is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza with the metering lights turned on. we are seeing heavy conditions interest san francisco. we have a fog advisory for the san mateo bridge so as you head across the water it doesn't look like the traffic is too built up but ten minutes from hayward to foster city. 6:01. we are continuing to following developing news a 4.4 hit monterey county a short time ago. it hit at 5:21 near king city an hour south of salinas. so far there are no reports of damage. we have reports it was felt as far north as half moon bay and fresno to to the east.

we are gathering new details on the earthquake and we will bring you updates as they become available. more developing news the number of birds found coated in a mysterious goo has jumped up again and now officials may have an idea of what the sticky substance is that last ds of birds -- left dozens of birds dead. >> number is now 242 birds and they plan to keep looking. they are looking to see if they are covered in a substance that is a fuel additive that kills thousands of birds in the u.k. a couple of years ago. officials suspect it was dumped or spilled in the bay. at least 80 birds died. the birds are found on the east bay sures. they are dying because the goop takes arm their ability to insulate themselves so they are freezing to death. it is impacting a variety of birds.

>> picked up some of the little shore birds and even a bird but it is affecting little birds and even the sea ducks. the international bird rescue is spending $7,000 to $8,000 a day on finding and treating the birds and they do need financial help and are asking for donations. necessity do not need help finding or cleaning the birds. they are relying on trained volunteers to do those jobs. they are expecting to find more birds and are waiting for laboratory tests to find out what the substance is covering them. thank you, amy hollyfield. >> two men were rescued after getting stuck in the mud during king tide. the fire department brought the stranded voters back to the marine in san jose last night and they called for help using

>> covering santa rosa, berkeley, san jose, and all the bay area, this is abc7 news. welcome back at 6:44 we are learning new information on mysterious sticky substance that is killing birds along the east bay shoreline. our reporter, amy hollyfield, is in alameda with the developing details on this. amy? >> i am looking into the substance that is known to have killed thousands of birds in the u.k., a couple of years ago. it is a fuel additive and they believe the sticky substance was spilled other maybe dumped in the san francisco bay and they have new found 242 birds on the east bay shores covered in the goop. they will not know for sure what the substance is until completed laboratory testing and crews are making good progress in the clean process and wish they could is continue more sooner.

cooler than yesterday morning and upper 30's, san ramon valley and everyone else in the low-to-mid 40's until you get to san francisco the warm spot at 48 degrees. two areas of high pressure starting to exert their dominance over us and storm track headed to the north as the high pressure expands and we will get the nice offshore breeze that will bring us record highs but likely starting on friday a string of "spare the air" days that will run through the weekend. notice we have cloud cover tomorrow and thursday and the dry air comes in and taxes the clouds away on friday. we will look at tuesday and wednesday and next week we will have a system coming up to us for scattered showers and look to the west and see if it oftens the storm door for late next week into early friday. that is the hope, it is not a great chance but that is the hope. low-to-mid 60's as long as the fog is around through thursday and upper 60's to 70 for friday

inland is up to 64. i second that, the fog at the bay bridge is busy from the east bay at 24 minutes from east bay to san francisco. the drive is bumper-to-bumper traffic across the san mateo bridge from hayward to foster city and we have this accident now blocking one lane, southbound 680 at mission boulevard causing heavy backups and further to the north at sunol boulevard we have a solo accident up the embankment. >> this morning isis is threatening to kill two japanese hostages and a video released appears it she the group threatening to kill the two men until they receive $200 million in 72 hours. >> six a 4.4 hit monterey county this morning at 5:21 in greenfield an hour south of salinas. so far no reports of damage. people have reported feeling it as far north as half moon bay.
