school officials are trying to reassure worried parents about the threat of a measles outbreak and finding ways to keep their kids safe. thanks for joining us. >> this is a joint effort between county education officials and the health department in the wake of the disneyland outbreak that is now spread to the bay area. matt keller is live in san jose with details. >> reporter: as soon as that letter is released it will be posted to the santa clara county public health department's web sites. they say the most important message is get your measles

vaccination vaccination. schools are a mix of learning, laughter, play time and of course germs. that's why the recent outbreak of measles across california has parents and education officials on edge. especially since many of the dozens of cases originatesed at disneyland. student, staff and families in the santa clara unified school district know how quickly a virus can spread. last year they had to alert the public health department because more than 10% of the students were absent because of flu-like symptoms. >> concerned about the flu at this school yeah, but as far as measles goes not yet. i mean, there are more cases yeah. >> reporter: the county has only one confirmed case of measles and that's in an adult. but that's not stopping the letter to the board of education. it will be sent to the 31 school districts to be disbursed to the 270,000 children and their families. >> it's really just a message to say don't be alarmed don't be

panicked, there have been these cases. but here are the facts. here are some resources. and a reminder to immunized and adults, as well. >> reporter: the only way it to stop the spread is through vaccinations. 93% of children are up-to-date on their immunizations. here is advice from health officials. they say if you're not sure whether or not you've been i'm munized, you can get the vaccination again and it won't hurt. >> and children may be more susceptible susceptible. >> an increasing number are missing out on recommended vaccines. "l.a. times" reports the data comes from records of children treated by kaiser permanente between 2010 and 2012. more than 150,000 kids were

evaluated. it found several clusters where children under three were not getting regular vaccines. those clusters stretch from richmond to is ansan leandro in the east bay as well as northern san francisco county, southern part of marin county. sonoma and nap take werea were also on the list. all lanes of interstate 580 are reopened after a fiery rollover crash that left a woman dead this morning. it happened in the eastbound direction near the 16 fourth avenue exit around 4:30. the highway patrol says a sedan hit the center median and flipped over. a honda pilot suv then slammed head-on into that car. the impact gee jekted three people who were inside. a woman was killed and the sedan burst into flames. two others were taken to eden medical center with major injuries. a man has been arrested after tense barricade situation in san francisco that lasted for 15 hours.

police surroundseded this house looking for a man reportedly threatening his brother who had a restraining order on him. investigators cordoned off the area and stayed through the night believing the man was hold up inside. this morning police got word the suspect may have left and gp to a second location a few miles away and arrested him at that location. a rally was held at the san francisco hall of justice in support of two people arrested did during protests last friday that crippled several downtown b.a.r.t. stations. demonstrators tried to black door block doors on some trains. we're under a high surf advisory along the coast with a special warning about dangerous waves. p the warning will be with us for a while. let's find out what is happening from amy hollyfield. >> reporter: yeah, as we continue to sit here and watch the waves are getting bigger. it's beautiful to watch. but they are expected on grow

in size as the day progresses. and with these large waves comes plenty of warnings. it's the kind of morning that makes you wonder why people live anywhere but here. the weather this weekend is expected to be unseasonably warm. the waves are supposed to put on an impressive show. and that's exactly what has some people feeling very worried. >> they're saying the swell will be building and the weather nice, which is a bad combination because it brings a lot of inexperienced people to the water's edge where a lot of accidents happen. >> reporter: an advisory has been issued hangs to a storm developing in the pacific ocean. steeper beaches face a greater arriving than usual for sneaker waves. >> it would be saver to where there is big undertow real close to the shore. >> reporter: good news for these guy not so good for those who want to catch them.

waves will be strong enough to come up and wash people right off of rocks and jetties. reporting live amy hollyfield, abc 7. so far they have been around 6 or 7 feet. let's show you why. a lot of people will be heading there. look at this, just absolutely gorgeous. maybe not quite as nice as the picture amy had, but we're looking for 2600 feet. these are the temperatures for today mid to upper 60s. and we'll be in the low to mid 70s this weekend. so when do you flock to the beach now we're up to 7 to 8 feet. we could get 15 to possible 20 foot sneaker waves now all the way through 6:00 sunday morning. est warmest temperature will be sunday afternoon. and the ocean will be calmest. so maybe that's a better time to head there. right now we have breaking news in oakland. police are there because of a hit and run accident. the "san francisco chronicle" reporting it as a deadly hit and run. this is at the corner of 18th

avenue and east 15th street. and this is the san antonio neighborhood. this happened just after 8:00. the chronicle is reporting that a woman was killed. a cane possibly belonging to her was found, as well. she was taken to the hospital and she died. no arrests have been made. again, this is in oakland right now. police investigation continuing after a suspected hit and run that killed a woman in the san antonio neighborhood of oakland. we're getting a report on repair work to reopen a section of highway 1 washed out by last month's rains. an 80-foot section is still closed in both directions. today caltrans is giving reporters a tour of repairs already made and how much more retains to be done to reopen. the closure has made it tough for visitors to get to the recreation areas. jeb about yourbush will be in

wood city-half the if afacility's 450 workers will be offered jobs in glendale the other half will lose their jobs. the studio says the cuts are part of a reorganization effort aimed at saving money. a popular park in the north bay will be temporarily closed in an effort to reduce the homeless population. the san rafael mayor says it will be closed for at least 30 days starting monday. according to our media partner, there have been growing complaints of homeless people drinking, doing drugs and littering. the mayor says the park will be cleaned and improved upon during the closure. new this morning, napa county sheriff's deputies are in north carolina to bring back dozens of bottles of rare and very expensive wines stolen from the french laundry restaurant. robbers broke into the restaurant on christmas day and made off with 76 bottles of world class wine worth an estimated $300,000. thieves jimmied a door to the
