>> good morning, everyone, i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, january 25th. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meteorologist lisa argen. >> hi carolyn, good morning. some high everybody he will vision winds are bringing the tully fog into our valleys. we have the high surf sizery and low visibility in some areas. a quarter mile santa rosa, concord 2 miles and just a mile and a half in livermore. it's going to get a little worse before it gets better. after the 10:00 hour we will see more sunshine, hazy conditions on the spare the air day. poor air quality today and

tomorrow in the north bay. getting better on tuesday and tuesday begins a new parcel of air that's going to head our way and really mix out the atmosphere enough that maybe we could see some rain. we will talk about it coming up. carolyn. >> lisa, thank you. >> a word of caution for anyone taking advantage of the warm weather and headed to the beach. be on the lookout for sneaker waves. abc7 news lisa amin gulezian has the story. >> reporter: they were taking in the lights, the sites, and the warm temps along the embarcadero. getting outside was top of mind for just about everyone this winter day. >> i don't know if this has anything to do with global warming or climate change, but i'll sure enjoy it. >> it wasn't hard to find people in shorts and a t-shirt. it was 70 degrees in pacifica. typically this time of year it's in the 50s here. >> it's beautiful, especially since there's no fog along the coast. but below the surface, a potential for problems is brewing. there's a high surf advisory in effect.

shark park is at risk for sneaker waves. this is low tide. the coast guard was out keeping an eye on things all morning at ocean beach. the advisory was out, but surfers were all still in. >> we get maybe five to ten days like this in a surf season each year, so definitely have to take advantage of it when it's here. >> in oakland people flocked to lake mary to enjoy the sun and record heat. >> it's been nice to enjoy this weather since we had all that rain. >> but the state isn't in the clear. we are still in a drought and the rain is necessary for the air quality, as well. this is another spare the air weekend. >> it's like a dome over the area. it's capping all the air in our region so we don't get those normal breezes that blow out the pollution. >> that means anyone caught burning wood will be fined. patrols will be out all weekend looking for violators.

lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. the supplier of the steel rods that cracked on the bay bridge back in 2013 never told caltrans the same thing happened with nearly identical rods made for a washington state bridge in 2009. it was released by california bridge officials. it states the ohio corporation knew of problems six months after shipping 96 of them to california in 2008. 32 of the rods sat in rainwater for five years, exposing them to corrosive hydrogen. they snapped after being laid down in 2013. it cost toll payers $45 million. dyson corporation has not responded to requests for comments. >> napa county has reported their first flu-related death of the season.

it's the fifth death linked to the flu in the bay area. others announced last week have been in san francisco, sonoma county and san mateo county. officials have not released details about the latest victim but experts say it's a sign of the new increasingly active flu season. they advise everyone to get flu shots, wash your hands and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. >> at a rare council meeting in oakland no, legislation was passed, there was no agenda, but there was a public forum that allowed residents, city officials police to talk about recent protests and tensions. sergio quintana was there. >> at the center of the conversation, the difficult relationships between some oakland communities and the police department. something the police chief acknowledged, but something he says has changed. >> the oakland police department of 2015 is not the oakland police department of the 1960's, department i joined over 20

years ago, and it's not even the police department of occupy oakland. >> oakland city council meetings often have unique moments, and at this one there were two. the first centered around a group called the black friday 14. they chained themselves to a platform after thanksgiving for two hours are and changing charges. one council member tried to coerce one to sign a pledge asking the charges be dropped. >> that the $70,000 in restitution not be asked for and that no community service or sought. >> at this time i cannot make that commitment. >> the second moment came ms. lewis spoke. she was arrested during that black friday protest. she also organized an early morning demonstration outside mayor libby's house this week. >> we weren't able to meet with her when we came to meet with

reduced. another beautiful day at the beach. surf is high. the sierra nevada, what happened to the snow we may get a slight dusting come tuesday in the mountains. 46 in san francisco, 45 san carlos. 50 at the coast. northeast winds are already warming up the shoreline. you see the haze. here is san francisco with 42 degrees, and the fog is lingering. napa, petaluma had 3. 41 fairfield. and concord still gray for you. visibility a mile and a half livermore. a mile in napa quarter mile in fairfield and the east winds 25 to 35 miles an hour. the higher elevations really cooling in the tully fog. you see the direction here. these will linger. and emeryville will warm to near 07. record highs likely again today. a slight chance of showers, the best chance is in the south bay

come tuesday. we still have the high surf advisory through 3:00. pretty dangerous all the way from sonoma down to big sur with the unpredictable action and strength of these waves. here's a look at the coast. you can see them there. we will look for highs today with 11 to 16 degrees above average. 74 in san jose. here's through tomorrow. low cloud cover. you look at the green here popping up from time to time through tuesday. that's all we can manage. but maybe a dusting of snow in the mountains. the santa anas will be weakening today. still warm in los angeles, 9. temperatures in the upper 50s. and 58 concord, 57 in antioch 70 livermore. and morgan hill. accuweather seven-day forecast record warmth today. looking at low 70s and more clouds tomorrow and then a slight chance of showers, upper 60s tuesday.
