good afternoon, and thank you for joining us. i'm ama daetz. >> a stubborn fire is out in san bruno, it started way 16-year-old girl on a joy ride crashed into building. >> a pizza place in san bruin pope vic lee is live on the scene with the latest. vic? >> reporter: well, one lane of el camino, south of the 280/380 interchange is still closed but traffic is moving smoothly now. firefighters you can see, are trying to stabilize the building. that's the seniore pizza hut a popular pizzeria here in san bruno more than a decade.

firefighters responded to 911 calls a little after 10:00. the fire went quickly to two alarms. a fire that was tough to fight. a ruptured gas line kept giving the stubborn blaze life, shooting flames to the attic of the pizzeria. this is the other than of the once thriving pizza shop i. woke up out of my sleep to run over here and see what eave been working for the last 12 years up in flames. >> reporter: firefighters brought in 18 pieces of equipment including ladder trucks and doused the fire with heavy doses of water hoping it would help. they clamped the two-inch metal gas pipe. fire fighters were able to stop the fire from reaching af= tattoo shop in the same ground-level building. >> they had to kick my door in, and to see if anything flames went into the shop. >> reporter: see this white mercedes-benz wedged into the

vehicle in san francisco was in court today. david diaz pleaded not guilty to those charges, and another charge for possessing and incendiary device. last year he was found guilty of manslaughter for the death of a sexual partner. he set that man's body on fire. a jury found him guilty of arson in that case but the judge threw out the arson conviction. san francisco prosecutors say the judge's decision weighs heavily on the recent arson charges. kg4 >> add insult to injuresy what the judge did after the jury spoke in this case. but add insult to injury is the judges setting aside in dismissal the arson charge. >> police are investigating if diaz was also involved in several other arsons that happened since december in the castro districts. investigators are trying to determine the cause of a rare january brush fire that forced the evacuation of 80 to 90 homes in pacifica early this morning. the wind whipped blaze moved up a littleside in the rockaway

shut down today. boyd memorial park in san ra zell is closed for the next 30 days. mayor gary phillips reeves complaints from people in the community about the homeless presence there. someone set a fire in one of the bathrooms last week and reports of crime and drug use. during the closure, crews will renovate the park, trim vegetation and tear down those bathroom.

by the coast guard. the plane took off from northern california and en route to maui when fuel troubles about 250 miles out forced the pilot to take action. the coast guard instructs him to fly towards a cruise ship before using the parachute. after the plane hits the pilot emerges from the cockpit then deploy as life raft he had onboard. a few minutes later the pilot is drifting in the ocean towards the cruise ship that picks him up. >> roger. >> reporter: a few hours later, four people were rescued after another small plane ran out of gas 11 miles west of oahu. three adults and a child hoisted to safety in a dramatic ocean rescue by the coast guard. >> two survivors in the basket. >> reporter: parachutes for airplanes approved by the faa in 1993 and accredited for saving hundreds of lives. the plane in this instance was built with a parachute. >> that made all the difference. coming up at 5:00, abc 7
