live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. >> a big fall into the bay. we found out what happened moments before a woman plunged into the chilly bay waters in san francisco. >> good morning thanks for joining us. i am matt colder. >> the rescue was near the popular tourist spot in san francisco and we have video of the rescue you will see only here on abc7 news. >> right next to pier 39. this woman hopped on the seawall and firefighters say she slipped. she fell.

she hit her chin on the way down. she started screaming for help. >> what relief this woman must have felt when firefighters arrived. she looked exhausted. crews got the call she fell into the water at 10:42 last night and pull her to safety at 10:55, 13 long minutes in the cold water. witnesses say they tried to keep her calm while waiting for help. >> she was screaming for help. we were gidding her. she was swimming over here and we were trying to guide her and the firefighters came. >> firefighters took her to the hospital to be checked but say it looked like she was going to be fine. she climbed on the seawall to take pictures and this is 9 spot for that. this morning, we found several visitors trying for the perfect shot. >> i wanted a shot of alcatraz and looking back at the city. >> visitors say the scenery is so beautiful there is no need to work hard for the picture.

shawn from oklahoma was happy with the picture he took standing safely on the ground. >> i didn't have to get on the wall to see it. >> denny grows saying she had seen people go to extremes for a picture. >> i saw people getting pretty sketchy looking shots at ocean beach and the picture will not do so great if you fall over the side of the cliff trying to take it. >> firefighters have not released any information about the woman who fell into the water because of confidentiality laws. reporting live in san francisco. developing news a stanford swimmer has voluntarily withdrawn from the university over assault charges at stanford. five felony charges were filed against brock turner, the ohio freshman is accused of raping a drunk and unconscious woman on campus a week and a half ago. two students are credited with stopping the attacks. turner was a member of the

swimming team and banned from campus and faced up to 10 years in prison. >> today, one of two suspected street racers accused in the death of a san jose woman is expected in court. 23-year-old manuel anthony maldonado-avalos is scheduled to appear before a judge this afternoon. he and 18-year-old gabriel esparza face charges of vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving. police say the pair were racing at 70 miles per hour on yerba buena road in 40 miles per hour zone on monday. one of them lost control hit a rail and slammed into the woman, 24-year-old kiran pabla was killed. the family is planning a vigil tonight. >> the nap that released video of two "persons of interest" in the death investigation of a 57-year-old rohnert park woman and hoping someone will recognize the two men captured on video with the victim the

night before slow died. investigator say she met up with two men at a mexican restaurant the night of november 15. all three left the bar and went to another restaurant in santa rosa. the next morning the 57-year-old woman's body was found lying in the roadway. investigator say she was hit by a car. >> t.s.a. acts are credited with stopping a potentially dangerous situation when they spotted an unusual item someone tried to get beyond security. a t.s.a. spokesman tweeted out this picture of a dagger hidden in a replica of the eiffel tower. we found a similar item for sale on amazon for $20. the description says that the plaid is more than 8" long. >> new metering lights for the commute other a "go," on the peninsula northbound 85 from cupertino to mountain view will make a step before they merge on to the highway. our reporter joins us with what commuters thing of the new and

>> caltran took action at a cost $12 million they are activating new on-ramp metering lights six miles from cupertino to nontown view. so far so good. on weekdays they turn on at 6:00 a.m. until 11 act two hours longer than any other metering lights. crews watch traffic flow and the new system to make sure everything worked the way it should. the goal was to ease traffic congestion in this business booming section of silicon valley. most drivers are taking the changes in stride. >> i find if i leave early enough, commuter lights are not too much of an issue. anything that eases traffic, i support it. >> caltran has studied that metering lights will minimize gridlock on freeway system and decrease travel time. there are 474 metering lights throughout the bay area with another 170 slated to go up this

year. dozens of sea birds rescued after being covered in a mysterious good are back in the wild. an hour ago the special bird rescue set 30 birds free in sausalito. they were found along the east bay and the shores covered in a mysterious gray goo. 250 birds died and 200 others are still recovered at the rescue fairfield facility. >> san jose homeowners calling on the city council to do more to stop a wild pig problem. last night, city council voted to allow professionals to trap and kill wild picks rooming for a year destroy lawns and plants and flowers. trappers have caught and killed 14 pigs but some say the extension is not enough because they have to foot the pill that costs -- the bill that of the coulds hundreds. >> disney out break from measles is spreading with ten babies in

>> updelivery driver in texas is out of a job this morning after a home surveillance video landed him in hot water. a home owner posted video to youtube showing the driver urinating on the side of his house. not only that, but it shows the worker toss packages over the homeowner's fence, one opened when it hit the grounds and was recorded january 8 and was posted this week. u.p.s. released a statement announcing the driver's fire saying u.p.s. was dismayed by actions that violated decency and delivery care. >> negotiations are underway
