making news in america this morning, new concerns about the measles outbreak after the virus spreads to other locations including the state hosting this weekend's big game. the rise in cases sparking a new national debate about vaccines. countdown to kickoff. super bowl sunday right around the corner. the preparations under way right now and who will be handling the footballs to prevent another deflate-gate. breaking news suge knight suspected of deliberately running down two men with his truck. new details in to us overnight. deflate-gate debate, jimmy kimmel gets some of his boston buddies together to put an end to the patriots scandal. well, good friday morning to you all. we have to start with this

measles outbreak now spilling into more and more states. >> yeah, the highly infectious disease now spread to arizona where thousands are heading for the super bowl this weekend. abc's susan saulny has the details. >> reporter: it's one of the most contagious airborne viruses on earth, measles. and this morning, with more than 84 cases in 14 states just this month, alarm is growing that measles is spreading. >> i think it's kind of scary because it used to be pretty eradicated, and now it's becoming a problem again. >> reporter: the centers for disease control is urging americans to get vaccinated after an outbreak that began at disneyland in december. and now in arizona alone, just as super bowl fans are arriving, state officials are monitoring a thousand people and nearly 200 children for possible exposure. in california, 66 students at palm desert high school who can't prove they were vaccinated are not allowed to return to class for two weeks after a fellow student showed possible symptoms.

>> parents are afraid. parents are nervous about what might happen to their child. >> reporter: the symptoms start out like a cold runny nose fever, sore throat then the rash begins starting at the hairline. most people recover. but measles can cause brain damage and pneumonia. it can also be deadly. >> they're vaccinated. my kids are healthy. >> reporter: the outbreak is reigniting a debate over those opting out of the vaccine for religious or philosophical reasons. public health officials say there is only one way to stop measles. >> the most important thing is to be up to date on the vaccines. >> reporter: health officials declared measles eliminated from the u.s. 15 years ago. they say these new cases have been imported from travelers overseas. susan saulny, abc news, washington. well, besides measles the other concern in arizona this morning, keeping the super bowl safe. >> yes, at the university of phoenix stadium in glendale, arizona, extraordinary measures are in place. you're seeing a live look outside that stadium where the patriots and seahawks, of course, are going at it sunday. security includes a 30-mile

no-fly zone. on the ground high-tech scanners search every item coming in including katy perry's halftime show materials. >> also this morning, the nfl says it will take extra steps to safeguard the footballs that will be used. the teams will turn over the balls this i've been practicing with today. they will be checked by referees three hours before game time and won't be given to ball boys until just before kickoff. more from arizona throughout this half hour. well, here in the northeast, though this week's second snowstorm has now arrived. this alberta clipper swooped in from canada then moved across the upper midwest. >> it's not expected to be as fierce as tuesday's storm but that doesn't mean it won't be annoying for this morning's commute. let's get the full forecast now from accuweather's justin povick. good morning, justin. >> thanks, reena and t.j., and good morning. the northeast once again dealing with some more wintry weather and some cold and as we go throughout the day, new york city, boston could see a couple of inches of snow with some slippery travel and some delays. the bigger storm system will be confined to coastal maine friday evening and friday night where we could see a swath of one foot

plus snow stretching from portland north and eastbound. some gusty winds out there, as well. south plains, heavy rain on tap for the next couple of days. this right through saturday, 1 to 2 inches of rain potentially in lubbock with some mountain snow in albuquerque. up to 25 in colorado springs and denver. later on this weekend, snow expands its way off to the north and the east into the ohio valley. reena and t.j., back to you. >> thank you, justin. turning overseas to that deadline imposed by isis it already has passed, but the fate of the two hostages unknown. jordan had agreed to free a prisoner in exchange for the release of a japanese journalist and a jordanian pilot, but government officials say the deal is on hold until isis provides proof that their pilot is still alive. now to a deadly attack on americans in afghanistan. three u.s. defense contractors were shot and killed last night at the international airport in kabul. the shooter was shot dead by security. authorities say he was wearing an afghan police uniform, but it's still not clear if he was a real officer.

senator lindsey graham says the taliban detainees released from guantanamo bay in exchange for sergeant bowe bergdahl are already back in touch with members of al qaeda. those detainees are being monitored by the government of qatar until this may then they are free to leave. graham believes it's only a matter of time before they return to terroristic activities. a 19-year-old who stormed a dutch tv station is claiming to be a hacker. the man burst into the studio with a gun. you see him there pacing. he demanded air time and threatened to set off bombs around the netherlands and he forced the station off the air for nearly an hour until police rushed in and arrested him. the gun turned out to be a fake. investigators are still looking into a possible motive. meanwhile, the death toll from that explosion rocking a mexico city maternity hospital now up to three. the blast killed a nurse and two babies, injured dozens more, virtually leveled the hospital. investigators are blaming a leak from a tanker truck making a routine delivery of propane gas. well, frightening moments for hundreds of passengers on board two separate flights. a united flight from los angeles

to d.c. had just taken off when passengers complained they smelled something burning. the plane was diverted to nearby ontario, california, and evacuated. crews are still checking the plane to see where the smell was coming from. and just to the east a bizarre incident midnight. a delta flight landed in las vegas without the captain in the cockpit. that's because the cockpit door jammed and the captain couldn't get back in, but the co-pilot called ahead and landed the plane alone without incident. well, a major political showdown is brewing in washington over the keystone pipeline. the republican-led senate defied threats of a presidential veto pushing through a bill calling for the construction of that pipeline. nine democrats voted with republicans to approve the pipeline, which would move canadian crude oil 1200 miles to gulf coast refineries. well, in another capitol hill showdown it was senator john mccain versus anti-war protesters. mccain was chairing a meeting of the armed services committee when the protesters approached a table where former secretaries of state, henry kissinger,

madeleine albright and george shultz were about to testify. that's when the shouting protesters swarmed kissinger demanding he be arrested for war crimes. >> you're going to have to shut up or i'm going to have you arrested. if we can't get the capitol hill police in immediately -- get out of here, you low-life scum. >> it's still kind of amusing to hear. mccain complained that capitol hill police took too long to take action. a spokesman later said that capitol police take their mission very seriously to protect congress and that their actions, quote, clearly did not demonstrate that mission. well, still ahead, super bowl sticker shock. you have got to hear what the cheapest ticket is going for right now to the big game. and breaking overnight rap mogul suge knight involved in a deadly ritieno crash which investigators say was done on purpose. plus, a race against time on a frozen lake. this dramatic rescue of two kids and we got it all on camera.

wall street is rebounding after oil prices also turned the corner. the dow climbed more than 225 points, much of it late in yesterday's session to close at 17,416.85. the increase in oil prices was very slight just 0.2% but shares of the steepest declines may be over. investors were also cheered by good earnings reports. there may be a sixth death linked to those exploding air bags. honda is looking at an accident in houston earlier this month involving a 2002 accord. the faulty air bag ss

can rupture when deployed spewing metal fragments. honda says several recall notices were sent but this car was never brought in for repairs. well headline here about the super bowl ticket prices. they are through the roof. overnight the cheapest game ticket on stubhub was nearly $7500. now, if prices do stay this high this would mean the most expensive super bowl ticket in history. just for your information, i know you want to know, the most expensive ticket on sub stubhub was $172,505.25. but you do get to sit right next to bill belichick during the game. meantime, in a major crackdown by authorities and the nfl, nearly $20 million in fake super bowl gear was seized. more than 325,000 counterfeit items were taken out of circulation. the operation began a year ago after last year's super bowl focused on international shipments of bogus merchandise entering the u.s. well, starbucks and match.com are hooking up and making it easier for millions of singles to do the same. the companies are

it rained overnight in the valley of the sun. forecast say that won't be a problem on sunday when it'll be 70 degrees and sunny at game time. this morning, though roads in phoenix and the rest of the southwest will be wet with snow in the higher elevations. if you're flying airport delays are likely in boston and phoenix. new this morning, former rapper mogul suge knight is in trouble again with the law, this time accused of running over two men with a truck and killing one of them. >> this reportedly look place after an argument in the parking lot of a fast food place. he hit them and backed over them. knight's attorney describes it as an accident. he claims knight was attacked by two people and was trying to escape when he mowed down the men. he says the man who died was actually knight's friend. and testimony begins today at the murder trial of former new england patriots tight end aaron hernandez. in opening statements prosecutors said dna evidence and security video from his own home will prove he orchestrated the killing of a semi pro football player named odin lloyd

in 2013. hernandez's lawyer said he's innocent and accused authorities of targeting hernandez from the start of the case. if convicted, hernandez faces life in prison. well, a fugitive survivalist who led police on a 48-day manhunt is pleading not guilty to all of the charges against him. eric frein is accused of shooting and killing a pennsylvania state trooper and injuring another in a late night ambush. investigators say frein has confessed to what he calls an assassination designed to wake people up. commuter trains in boston should run as scheduled this morning after a long day full of delays. passengers on a morning subway train say when they were stopped at the quincy station smoke began billowing through the car. the panicked passengers say the doors wouldn't open so they scrambled to escape from the windows. >> it was all dark inside and somebody shouted and people started screaming and they were yelling to open the doors. >> authorities blame a

mechanicalerer error and insist no trains were filled with smoke. new york's firefighters showed why they're called new york's bravest as they rescued a young boy stranded on a thin sheet of ice on the bronx river. the life ring couldn't reach the boy. rescuers warned him not to move toward it then a firefighter actually gets into the icy water to guide a ladder toward the boy. he was then able to climb to safety. everybody was fine. well, a sobering study on just how much is too much when it comes to drinking and your health. swedish researchers say middle-aged people who drink more than two glasses of alcoholic beverages a day have a 30% higher risk of stroke than light drinkers and those strokes are likely to take place at a younger age. the american heart association recommends no more than two drinks a day for men and just one for women. dartmouth is banning hard liquor on campus in hopes of curbing student misconduct. the ivy league school is also requiring all students to take part in a sexual violence prevention program for all four years. dartmouth is among 95 schools

under federal investigation over its handling of sexual harassment and violence. and many of those cases have been linked to heavy drinking. a jockey in texas is being charged with a felony for allegedly using a buzzer to shock his horse. roman chapa came from behind to win the race but take a look at this photo. it has prosecutors claiming he was illegally shocking the animal with that thing making him run faster. chapa says the picture was photoshopped by someone trying to frame him suspended from the track. if convicted he could face ten years in prison. let's turn to some sports, not as serious here. odell beckham jr. catching passes one-handed from quarterback drew brees doing this at the super bowl set combining for a new world record most one-handed pass completions in a minute so they did this 33 times. a judge from guinness was there to make it official. looks a lot easier than the catch beckham made against the cowboys. if you didn't know him, you knew him after that catch, the one flying backwards caught it with

walking in. the crash happened after a promotional scoop for a movie. the client was trying to leave and put his car in reverse and ran over two was a friend of him. the other man survived. authorities say knight was involved in a fight earlier and is held on $2 million bail. developing news in the east bay, police are looking for a man accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year old boy. it happened in oakland on tuesday afternoon as the boy was walking down the street on 98th avenue near elmhurst park. police are being asked to check surveillance video to see if they captured the suspect on camera. the man could be someone who loiters in the area. a distinct feature of the man is short salt and pepper hair. a reward of up to $7,500 is offered for information leading to arrest. >> police have release add sketch of a man accused
