>> we're in the middle of that massive storm right now. >> dangerous roads. dozens of accidents. this car slamming into a home. tens of thousands without power. thousands of flights cancelled and passengers stranded at airports and a bitter blast of cold turning everything to ice. there's got to be a morning-after. you think the players have been to bed? just waking up? going to sleep? whatever. they should enjoy it. on the west coast. that game coming down to the final seconds, as you know and they're going to be talking about that play for a very, very long time. >> hard to believe they threw it right there. boy, look at that the hero.

the distractions and the drama, 245i just played football. tom brady really cemented his legacy in my opinion. it's debatable whether it's him or joe montana. watching tom brady last night, as good as i have seen him last year. to throw the football 50 times against the nfl's best defense, the patriots put the ball in tom brady's hands to win or lose this football game. he was accurate he was poised. he played his best football down the stretch, bringing his football team back in the fourth quarter. fourth time that tom brady has led a game-winning drive in the super bowl. what a year for the patriots a team that had to battle through adversity all season long. these past few weeks, we talked about deflate-gate. the leaders in that locker room kept the distractions outside of that team. they were able to play their best football when it mattered. one of the all-time great super

bowls ever played by the new england patriots. >> especially that finish the acrobatic catch to begin with and then you think the seahawks are poised -- at the 1 yard line they don't give it to beast, or to lynch, they go with the pass. lot of people are raising their eyebrows. >> robin, it was a terrible play call by the seattle seahawks and the most important play in the entire game. that two-minute drive they were being very aggressive. they were throwing the football down the field. you're on the 1 yard line. you have a time-out in your back pocket. argue wli, the best short-yardage player in nfl, you have to hand the football off to marshawn lynch. unfortunately, a play call that will haunt them as well. >> jesse, dan harris is sitting next to me and i was told that yesterday you said something on the air --

tracking it all. >> reporter: robin, we have gone from snow to sleet to freezing rain and rain. this new york, we'll let you know what you're about to run into, slop. in a lot of places. but it's freezing at the surface. you'll see some icing on roads and bridging. let's go ahead and check what's behind this storm. look at these pictures from iowa the drifts are huge two to three-foot drifts being reported. the third largest snowstorm for detroit. a big one in the great lakes. it's still happening in the northeast. just from that sleet and freezing rain to the knot all snow. interior new england going to pick up some 12 to 18 inches and places like boston that already have two fresh feet of snow on the ground from the last storm, they're still going to get it. we got to get straight to rob

mar seeian owe who's boston. >> reporter: ginger, look at this. we have got visibility about a half a mile. the snow is blowing sideways and it's near-blizzard conditions. people have had to dig their cars out and really just kind of squeeze them in if you're lucky to find a spot going to and from work. there are some people -- this guy right here, he didn't bother digging his car out maybe because he knew this was coming. here we are, it's groundhog day. and after a record-setting snowstorm last week, it's happening again. this morning the northeast hammered by another winter storm. a caravan of plow trucks in long island. snow coating roads and train tracks into the early morning hours. here in boston, snow on top of snow. the city facing what could be a brutal round two, anticipating up to a foot of snow, less than one week being buried by two feet. most of the region nowhere near from digging out from under last week's blast. outside of pittsburgh the wintry mess turning hazardous, cars

colliding, flipping pickup trucks even sending this vehicle slamming through the front porch of a home. >> this is the third time in a week, the fourth time in a year our house has been hit. we're terrified. >> reporter: snow emergencies declared in parts of connecticut and massachusetts and city officials down the coast bracing for another hard hit. new york city's mayor defending his decision to play it safe during last week's storm, urging people to stay inside if necessary. >> i make decisions for a living and i always air on the side of safety. you don't need to walk around, don't walk around. >> reporter: from state to state one thing is clear, their weather weary and hoping this storm clears out quickly. just over 4 inches so far here in boston. we're expecting over ten. george, considering last night's big win for the patriots, even with this weather, i haven't met many people that are in a totally bad mood which is tough to believe with the snow blowing sideways. >> they're going to be sleeping late this morning. out in the midwest digging out from this snow and wind

causing damage. knocking out power for tens of thousands. abc's gio benitez in one of the hardest hit cities, toledo, ohio. good morning. >> george, good morning to you. check this out. right now, we've got about a foot and a half of snow across the midwest, we have schools closed. we have got businesses closed. a major dig-out is under way right now. overnight, the upper midwest pummeled. a blizzard-like storm dropping a foot and a half of snow across illinois. parts of the region getting up to 18 inches or more sunday. >> it's like heavy mud. >> reporter: one of the sixth biggest snowstorms in chicago's history. wicked wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour, derailing drivers and causing more than 45 accidents on illinois interstates alone. the storm leaving 44,000 customers without power. chicago's public schools closed. keeping nearly 400,000 kids home for the third time this year. more than 1,800 flights cancelled or delayed at the city's two major airports.

employees setting out hundreds of cots for stranded passengers. >> they just got through announcing that my flight to zurich is delayed. so i'm relegated to sitting in a terminal watching the super bowl. >> reporter: in toledo, ohio, the chaotic conditions responsible for the death of one police officer suffering a heart attack while shoveling snow. this morning the city's mayor in critical condition after suffering cardiac arrest while inspecting road conditions. crashing his suv into a pole. and back here, in toledo, they have a level 3 snow emergency. officials are just asking people to stay off those roads, lot of this wind still blowing this snow around, george. >> got to be careful. gio, thanks very much. back here in the east messy morning commute for millions. abc's linzie janis out on the roadway in northern new jersey. good morning, linzie. >> good morning, george. we're here in paramus, new jersey, with officer tim reid

and we are right at the freezing line, we have been watching it switch between freezing rain and snow all morning, and it's causing a mess on the roadways. they're icy. they're slushy. the officer telling us they responded overnight to several vehicles sliding off the road and they are expecting more accidents as we get deeper into the morning commute. there are speed restrictions in place and the governor's office is asking people to stay off the roads. robin. >> linzie, thank you very much. from the roads now to the air, more than 2,000 flights already cancelled today. as always, with a storm like this, that creates a ripple effect across the country. abc's david kerley has the latest. good morning, david. >> reporter: good morning, robin. look at that, the board. 26 flights cancelled. really nothing is getting out this morning. when was the last time you saw this? the tsa lines on a monday

morning, nobody is in it. 2,300 flights cancelled. the biggest areas hit, new york, chicago and boston continuing throughout the day. out on the tarmac, they are already clearing the snow and they're making some progress here at laguardia. they're worried that it's going to turn the moisture to ice. slick runways. those boston fans, robin, may have to celebrate another day in phoenix. they may not get home today. >> another victory for them. to be able to celebrate there and not have to come back to the cold. david, thanks. i'm sure the patriots won't mind spending another day in the phoenix area. just days after a drone crushed on the lawn a man who climbed on a bike rack you outside the white house. he was charged with unlawful entry. highly unlikely the man could have accessed white house

grounds. the faa is looking into a drone sighting near logan airport, spotted by a united airlines pilot saturday afternoon just before landing in boston x at the time, it was about eight miles from the airport. this morning, an urgent health alert about the measles and now the waiting game. officials confirming thousands of people exposed to the highly contagious disease when a student traveled on an amtrak train headed for niagara falls. this as up to 1 million dispersed after the super bowl in phoenix. at least six cases have been confirmed. measles can spread for days before symptoms appear. the big snowstorm in the northeast is delaying the trial of aaron hernandez, he's now in solitary confinement in a jail in massachusetts, he wasn't allow to watch his former teammates win the super bowl.

a former star of the power rangers is under arrest alpha tally stabbing his roommate with a sword allegedly. he stabbed the roommate in the stomach after an argument. he played the red ranger on power rangers wild forest in 2002. and check this out. a giant boulder rolled down a hill in san diego and smashed directly into a commercial building causing serious damage fortunately, it happened in the middle of the night and nobody was there. and finally, a stunning example of bad behavior at a beauty pageant that happened in brazil. at the crowning ceremony for miss amazon, look at this. the first runner-up snatches the crown off the winner's head and then storms off. the runner-up later justified her actions by claiming the winner bought her title. we don't know if the crown snatcher will retain her title as runner-up, but we do know she will not win miss congeniality. i do not condone unsportsmanlike behavior. or gloating. but as a patriots fan,

i think it's unacceptable. >> nobody would snatch that hat off. >> no, absolutely not. >> no. >> she almost got it. we do have to go back to ginger. the story out in california, the drought. >> yes. the driest january on record for san francisco. this is not great news. as we know, they have been in an issue for three years. san diego, you have very low numbers, too. not only the driest january since we started records but the pattern is changing a little. so there's some light at the end of the tunnel at the end of the week. here's what you're going to see, especially northern california, heavier rains, three to six inches in southwest coastal oregon and that kind of pushes into the rockies. a quick look in the southwest. but we got to get the local forecast.

the attempt entertainment the emergency at her townhome north of atlanta. >> 21-year-old female in the bathtub face down. >> reporter: around 10:30 saturday morning her husband and a friend found her unresponsive in a bathtub, too similar to the circumstances of her mother's death three years ago. this morning her father is asking for privacy and to give my daughter the love and support she needs that time. it was nearly three years ago february of 2012 when her mother was found unresponsive in a bathtub at the beverly hilton. police found more than a dozen bottles of pills in the hotel suite. the late whitney houston loved her daughter so. she told diane sawyer that her dream for the future would be looking at my daughter becoming a great woman of god. they shared lullabys together. ♪ i love you ♪ >> after her death brown visits her mother's grave.

minutes of blow drying. final option i'm trying the serum by big rollers. >> it defeats the purpose. ten minutes to get in them. almost an hour and my hair still feels wet. >> it wasn't as straight as my blow dried hair. but not bad. fast air drying and the beachy look would work for me some of the time. and air drying might really work for different types of hair. that would meantime saved per week 30 minutes and if you skip the $40 weekly blowout salon, money saved per year 2,000. i'll present let it air dry more often. i am embracing my beach surfer girl hair and salt spray. i'm going to go with that. i think it's worth experimenting with what works for your hair. you can save time and money. and that's always good robin.
