pouring rain and heavy rinds batter the bay area today. they brought down power lines and encouraging crews to clean up as another storm approaches. good evening. i'm ama daetz. >> and i'm dan ashley. tonight, new damage across the bay area. >> first sandhya patel is tracking the storm right now on live doppler 7hd. sandhya? >> as you look at live doppler 7hd you will see the storm winding down. and we still have some wet roadways but the intensity of the rain has dropped compared to earlier this evening. in the north bay we are seeing some rain. we have had reports of flooding around 10:00 p.m. in mendocino county and highway 175 at the russian river

bridge. it is closed due to flooding. there is a flood warning for that river up there in mendocino county. navarro river until 10:00 a.m. it has already gotten up to flood stage and is expected to crest. when you look at the south bay radar returns san jose to gilroy and we are starting to get steady light rain right now around the east foothills area and lightening up considerably san francisco in the east bay. numerous reports of wind damage today. the wind advisory goes until 4:00 a.m. tomorrow. we are still talking about gusty winds right now close to 50 at sfo and when you look at the rainfall this is impressive. almost five inches. .69 san francisco and almost an inch and oakland and moffett field and san jose is close to that in livermore and half moon bay .93 of an inch. one down and another storm to go. what part of your weekend will

be impacted ?i alan wang has been tracking the storm damage from the east bay to the north bay and joins us live now in novato. alan sph. >> ama and dan, pg&e says they are still trying to figure out what caused the outage that had about 2,000 people in the dark out here. they are still trying to restore power a few miles down the road. all caused by high winds. wind gusts up to 50 miles an hour near novato snapped a utility pole knocking out power to 1500 customers. further north in bodega high winds trapped a mother and two kids in their car. they were rescued an hour later. >> i remember learning through a safety course put on by the fire department not to get out of the car. >> trees were toppling all over the bay area including this 90-foot pine in the

berkeley hills. >> they pulled enough of the root that the wind had to be incredibly high for the tree to fall over. >> it fell across three properties and damaged a neighbor's roof, but there was no injuries. in pinole the wind pulled this tree out of the ground and on top of two cars. >> at least nothing happened to my family. first thing on my mind is i haven't seen this except for the cars. >> tomorrow they clean up and brace for the second wave on sunday. alan wang, abc7 news. >> all right let's take you to the east bay where a lornlg tree fell on to a home in alamo. san ramon firefighters worked to remove it. there is some wind dan. a eucalyptus tree went across the lanes in palo alto. work crews quickly moved in. >> the winds brought down trees in san francisco and sent waves crashing along the bay. katie is live in the city with that part of the story.

>> we chased a lot of trees and the worst example was here. the tree was on the other side of the street. it came down across all lanes of traffic and on to the sidewalk on this side. the entire street was closed for awhile and now you can see they have one lane open. crews were still working to clear the debris. first on scene we are firefighters who make quick work. trees and large limbs came crashing down all over san francisco. >> i heard a big, giant woosh. >> this massive example was on feld street. it would have been a direct hit into fred's backyard. downed branches took a sideview mirror off a parked car. >> we are salvaging the fall entries. it is for a project in my garden. >> a spokeswoman for the

department of public works says they have responded to does ns of trees and limbs but no reports of property damage. along the embarcadero the bay put on quite a show smashing on to the sidewalk. >> the winds came and i took some really nice pictures and i saw the big wave coming and i had to hold my umbrella so it got broken. >> at the height of the wind even the flagpole was struggling. >> in the see sierras the winds snapped trees. there are restrictions along 80 and 50. the winds are also whipping up a fire that has grown to more than 500 acres south of yosemite. the towns of paradise and small meadows are under evacuation. it started this afternoon. one home and one out building has been destroyed. you can see what is showing up on live doppler 7hd anytime at

the abc7 weather app. it is free on the app store and google play. >> the driver who died in a hit-and-run crash was a 14-year-old girl. a car and garbage truck crashed early on wednesday morning. the car drove off and police found the teenager's body next to it about a half mile away. the coroner identified her from san jose. any school in the uc system 's students will have to be vaccinated for measles. it is based on a recommendation from the california department of health. it was in the works before the measles outbreak that has now seekenned more than a hundred people in the state. there will be exemptions for medical or religious reasons. new at 11:00 a san francisco tiki bar is missing a priceless piece of art that was on the wall. someone stole a decorative war club and they desperately want it back.

can adopt them out. >> they are quiet giants. they are 45 mile an hour couch potatoes. >> now she turned her attention to spanish greyhounds. hunters in spain use them to chase rabbits in a season. they find out who has the best dog. there is one important difference. what happens to the spanish gray hounds after the season is done this. >> i have seen some abhorant things. >> she traveled to spain last year after a shelter invited her, and she provided these pictures she and a colleague took. she can only compete at the highest level for a few short years. after the hunting season is over, the owners often abandon dogs they don't think are worth feeding until the next season. they wander the spanish countryside are a common sight. sometimes the lunters uh -- hunters abuse the dogs, toss

them down a well or worse. >> to actually hang a dog and torch the dog or put a dog in a dumpster with a bullet in his head while he is still alive. this is everyday occurrences. >> i have seen a hundred pictures hanging from trees. >> the i team hired a photographer to record my phone interview. an intelligence officer in the largest police force that investigates environmental crimes including abuse of the galgose. the number of dogs hung from trees has dropped dramatically to just a few in the past year. all forms of abuse have decreased. >> it was a big problem in the past. we tried to mend it. i think we managed to mend it in most of the cases. i cannot say if it is completely in the past. >> ortega says officers across

the country still make dozens of arrests each year for his death and injuries, hangings and malnutrition. ngo's in spain estimate 60,000 galgos are killed each year. this owner told a spanish documentary film maker that he uses 20 dogs per season and he typically sends the seven worst racers to the local pound each year to be put down. another dog owner showed a chn training technique -- common training technique pulling galgos behind a car for up to 15 miles in one day. >> while they are training them one can hurt themselves and it doesn't matter to the home track. it is one less and he will get another one. >> sandra has been working in spain to save them for more than a decade. shooy founded a rescue program -- she founded a rescue program to push new laws. it didn't work. >> we did a lot of prep.

some rain. this is storm number one and it is starting to ease up. we are seeing some rain around highway 101 san jose, morgan hill area. as we take you around down toward the south bay you can see very light returns around north first street and sunnyvale, mountain view and grant avenue. this is street level radar. as we pull out a little more, we have returns. it is very spotty around san francisco. in the east bay we are also still tracking some light showers and up to the north around where our radar site is located, some showers. in the sierra, chain controls right now are still looking at snow at the highest elevations. this is our view from our heavenly camera. the snow has been falling and it is windy up there. a winter storm warning until 10:00 tomorrow morning. tahoe by the way and truckee are reporting rain. it has switched over to rain there. 50s and 60s and southerly wind playing a part in keeping us mild.

it is a shaky camera from our sue trough tower. and the peak wind gust 70 miles an hour. mount diablo and over 60 at wood acre, sfo52 and richmond is close to that. when you look at the wind gusts, we are expecting the wind gusts to actually taper. so hopefully the winds won't wake you up at 2:00 a.m. still going close to 40 miles an hour by 7:00 a.m. they have dropped off quite a bit. a beautiful view from the exploratorium camera as the storm has come through. scatter ited showers for your saturday -- scattered showers for your saturday. here is a look at today's storm. the cold front cameuthrough and we are watching the next wave go through. the wind and rain will taper overnight. this storm had been tapping into quite a bit of moisture. tomorrow we have in between storms. this wave here comes through and we get scatter etd -- scattered showers. it doesn't have quite the

trail of moisture but it will bring heavy rain and wind. when you look at our computer animation, tomorrow morning spotty light showers and then you get a break before the next batch comes back. 8:00 we start to see heavy rain coming in and the winds will be coming in at 10:00. still pockets of moderate to heavy rain. and then at 5:00 p.m., scattered showers on sunday evening. we will keep the showers going for your monday morning, the start of the commute continuing about 11:00 12:00 on monday. tomorrow morning, make sure you have the umbrellas around. you may use temperatures in the 50s. many of you won't need them, but keep them around for the afternoon. looking at 50s 60s around the bay area and a look at the accu-weather seven-day forecast. it will feature what we need to see which is more rain. now showers for tomorrow and they will diminish. rain and wind with a chance of thunder on sunday. the showers linger into monday morning and then we start to dry out. by the way, the nado in sonoma
