as more. >> katy we're going to get a temporary break in the wet weather today. storm number two is approaching. we'll show you we have the break in the rain, most of the activity well to the east of us at this hour. the past 12 hours will show you a few showers moved through the peninsula and south bay adding to our 24-rain totals. look at the first storm healthy amounts across the bay. san rafael two inches of rain. napa over an inch. this storm over an inch of rain. taking a live look outside from the emoryville camera, we'll show you we do have peeks of sunshine as the sun goes down. if you're heading out on the town later this evening in the mid-50s to lower 60s. if your activities take you past 11:00, that's when the threat of wet weather gets back into the picture. the full forecast in just a few minutes. katy? >> drew, thank you. the north bay, one of the

hardest hit by last night's rain and heavy winds. cornell bernard shows us how the storm is still affecting people tonight. cornell? >> reporter: hi, katy. pg&e is making progress tonight restoring power to much of sausalito after a power pole toppled in the storm last night. as you can see, repairs are under way. still a lot of work to do and there's no time to waste. a in you storm is on the way. it was raining in sausalito on saturday. but nothing like the fierce stormy weather which blew in and knocked down this power pole on woodward avenue in sausalito friday night leaving 1,100 customers in the dark. how have you been managing without the power? >> we went to sleep. >> reporter: a restaurant on bridgeway avenue is closed. no customers, no lights. are you serving dinner tonight? >> not tonight. no, we can't cook anything. we've got gas stoves but there's no ventilation for the kitchen, so we can't open.

>> reporter: sean taylor said those with reservations tonight are told to come back another time. meantime, food in the freezer is thawing out quickly. in mill valley this family's tree-trimming business is busy. they're trying to prevent more damage before the next storm. >> what we're trying to do here is just cut the trees a little bit. to avoid, you know having the trees fall on top of the buildings. >> reporter: these two large poplar trees fell overnight blocking traffic for a time. a brewery in novato tweeted this picture after a heavy wind gust blew out a second-floor window. nobody hurt. this 80-foot monterey pine is being moved. it fell on sandy thompson's property during the storm. >> the winds yesterday, it was very loud and kind of creepy. >> reporter: the tree fell away from sandy's house but toppled into the backyards of two neighbors, damaging the roof of

this home. many of these pine trees were planted in the early 1960s, and that has sandy plenty worried. >> apparently their life span i'm finding out now is 50 years. and they were planted about 50 years ago. so makes me really nervous. because we have another storm coming. >> reporter: removing this giant tree may take several days. a wildfire driven by powerful winds south of yosemite has now destroyed at least 40 homes. the round fire has burned 7,000 acres, and is just 50% contained tonight. two towns near the nevada state line remain under a mandatory evacuation. some good news. dying winds and rain have helped stopped the growth of the fire. the cause is not yet known. this winter storm dropping much-needed rain on the bay area and much desired snow in the sierra. skiers and snowboarders have taken full advantage of the latest snowfall at heavily mountain resort in south lake

the newsroom with more on today's demonstration. >> this was one of the largest demonstrations against fracking recently and it was held in governor jerry brown's home ton ton -- hometown, oakland, for a reason. the event organizers said governor brown's administration has given a green light to oil companies to drill in california. the state is the third highest oil producers in the country. fracking has recently gained more interest after records analyzed by the associated press found that california regulators allowed oil companies to re-eject hydraulic fracking fluids into aquifers. people converged on oakland for this event. >> i came up by bus this morning. and i'm doing this because i believe in the future for all human life and all life on earth. and i believe it's time for us

to create a whole other way of being human. >> reporter: during a news conference yesterday, governor brown challenged protesters saying they, along with most other californians, are still getting around on gas-guzzling cars, trucks and buses. there was a group of counterprotesters who support increased drilling in california. one supporter said california has some of the strictest rules in california. >> they can benefit from affordable energy, which we're seeing at the pump already. >> gas prices have been falling dramatically in the last six months, in part because of the oil drilling in the u.s. it's also because newer cars are more fuel efficient and because countries like saudi arabia have continued to pump oil despite a worldwide oil glut. in the news room abc 7 news. a man who was allegedly attacking officers with golf clubs was not injured when oakland police opened fire on him.

it happened just after midnight on east 17th street. police responded to a call of a mentally disturbed man armed with a weapon threatening to hit people. they found the man with two golf clubs. police say he came at them swinging and woet stop. one officer fired his weapon. the man was not injured and is now in custody. a san jose woman died in a mobile home fire that started around 2:00 this morning. firefighters arrived in just minutes. they were able to keep the fire from spreading to other mobile homes nearby. but the flames were so intense they say it will be difficult to determine how the fire started. for now, investigators do not believe it was suspicious. still ahead on abc 7 news at 6:00, there's a push to ban a form of caffeine after a high school student dies. inside your valentine's box of candy there could be a danger. and virtual reality, it's not just a sci-fi dream anymore. you can tr

died after his parents say he mismeasured taking a tee spon amount to his 30 cups of coffee. there are no instructions on the packaging on how to properly measure a serving. parents who lost their kids want it banned like illegal drugs. >> we're advocates on these trending drugs. we knew about marijuana. this was caffeine. >> caffeine. >> and we kept saying to the kids, what was it. they were like, it was caffeine. we were like no it wouldn't be. >> the food and drug administration has issued a warning for powdered caffeine. but it remains unregulated. san francisco based see's candy has a warning for people with nut allergies. some of the valentine's day chocolates have been mislabeled and may contain coconut almonds or pecans. people with those allergies should avoid the eight-ounce

make the first at-sea rocket landing of the company founded by elan musk tried to land the unmanned rockets on the deck of a ship last month but it crashed. engineers are giving it more hydraulic fluid in hopes it will stabilize the rocket's fins. the flight path to the floating barge off the florida coast this time is slightly more challenging. virtual reality has seemed like science fiction for decades, but now it is actually becoming a reality. tomorrow you can try it out firsthand for free. four bay area best buys will be among a few dozen across the country to offer demos of samsung's gear vr. facebook's oculus project teamed with them. analysts say it hasn't caught on because it's something you can only truly experience in person. check it out at the best buy on harrison street in san francisco, dublin union city

and in emoryville. the weather's been quite a reality shock. it is winter, after all. we should have seen this rain all along, but it's finally back after a very dry january. let's send it over to drew to find out what's next. >> storm number two is approaching the region. it will be a rainy start to your sunday. the wind will pick up sunday afternoon. we'll show you we have a break in the rain. the bay area's dry. do notice the bulk of the moisture moving off to the east. this evening from the emoryville camera, peeks of sunshine this afternoon. but the clouds are racing across the sky. the winds are breezy now but will pick up once again as we get into sunday afternoon. partly cloudy skies right now, but the clouds will thicken up once again as the next storm approaches the region overnight tonight. overnight as you step outside, mild. a lot of 60s on the board. 62 in san francisco same in oakland. hayward at 65 degrees.

fremont at 62, and danville 60 degrees. satellite and radar, storm number one pushing well up into canada, along with the moisture. and then this clump of klause you see approaching the region, that's storm number two. but watch how quickly it's racing. it's not going to be a long duration event. it will only be a two, three-hour window that we see the wet weather. drizzle developing in the north bay. the leading edge of the rain begins to move in at 7:00. by 9:00 it will quickly intensify. the heaviest of the showers, though, pops of orange and yellow, kind of splitting the central bay. most of the heavy rain will fall in the north bay. there is the chance of an isolated thunderstorm possible, but it quickly gets out of here. by sunday afternoon tapering to isolated showers. we're not expecting a significant rainfall with this second storm. you do notice san francisco less than a 1/4 of an inch of rain. less than 1/2 of an inch in

oakland. the north bay near an inch around santa rosa. wind gusts right now are pretty calm. as we go into sunday afternoon, watch as they quickly pick up. 44-mile-per-hour wind gusts in san francisco. 29 in oakland. by 4:00 sunday afternoon. a wind advisory will go into effect for the entire bay area tomorrow morning sunday at 7:00 for the south winds once again, gusting to potentially 50 miles per hour. so there's the potential for downed trees and for power lines to come down sunday afternoon. overnight lows in the bay area, not falling too far from where we are right now. mainly cloudy skies overnight. mid to upper 50s. for your highs on sunday we'll see the rain early on then the winds pick up in the afternoon. 65 the high in san francisco. the same in oakland. 66 in san jose. getting up to 63 in napa. the accuweather forecast calls for a wet and windy sunday. a shower may linger on monday
