and a big mess to clean up across the bay area. and tonight, people are gearing up for another storm moving in tomorrow. good evening, everyone. i'm katy marzullo. let's get a first check on weather with drew. >> katy, yesterday we were dealing with soaking showers. storm one exited the bay area. pretty impressive in some spots. san rafael picking up over two inches of rain. over an inch in san jose and oakland. take a look at live doppler 7 hd. all is quiet. but as we expand the picture and show you storm number two is rapidly approaching. it is a quick-moving system.

this will not be a long duration of that, but it will arrive for sunday morning. we take a look ahead at the forecast. showers are going to greet you as you wake up tomorrow morning. there is a chance of thunder associated with the next storm system. but the winds are certainly going to be a big issue once again. they'll be whipping come sunday afternoon. we'll go hour by hour, and show you where the rain is where you live with the full forecast in just a few minutes. katy? >> thank you drew. with more bad weather on the way, many people are bracing themselves for another hit. lisa joins us live from sausalito tonight where pg&e crews are still trying to restore power from yesterday's outages. lisa? >> reporter: hi, katy. 20 people are still without power here on woodward avenue in sausalito. it's been more than 24 hours. the crews are working very hard. pg&e admits it could take until about 7:00 in the morning to get power restored. but it could go right back out

again once the storm comes in. >> it's a pain. >> reporter: being in the dark with a toddler for this long isn't easy. friday's storm snapped three power poles on woodward avenue knocking out power to 1,200 homes and businesses in sausalito. the concern is that tomorrow's strong wind gusts will make matters worse. >> pretty rotten. i hope the new ones going up are a lot stronger. if they've fallen just a couple of inches to the right it would have been on our cars. and if it had fallen the other direction, it would have been on the neighbor's roof. >> reporter: the tree man specializes in moving trees in tough conditions. this is video from a job in fairfax. the foreman team had to even pull out a stump, because the

high winds made the jobs too dangerous. >> we're taking trees off of house, out of driveways, off cars. >> reporter: it's been nonstop? >> yeah. we're expecting the worst again, round two. >> reporter: this is why pg&e set up this emergency operation center in san francisco. at one point 280,000 people were without power. most have been restored. they're prepping for more problems starting tomorrow. >> there will be a lot of wind with wet soil. that's always a condition where trees topple over bring down lines. we do expect significant numbers, new outages. >> reporter: the center will be in place until all customers have power restored. lisa amin gulezian. this tree fell during the storm. luckily it fell away from the house. but it did land in the backyards of two neighboring homes damaging a roof. california's insurance commissioner is urging people to

check insurance and do a home inventory. most insurance policies won't cover flooding, but will cover damage from falling trees or wind. for what is covered we have a link on abc7news.com. the storms are also bringing much-needed snow to the sierra. you can see flurries there earlier today from the lake tahoe tv camera. the snow levels dropped lower than expected. more than eight inches fell overnight and up to 18 inches could fall by next week. see what's showing up anytime with the abc 7 weather app. it's free on apple's app store or google play. we also have more information at abc7news.com/app. developing news tonight out of san francisco. three people are seriously injured after they were hit by a car on south van nuys avenue. sergio? >> reporter: katy this happened around 8:00 this evening. there were three people injured,

two of them pedestrians. another one likely the driver of that gray jaguar right there. let's show you video of the scene just a couple of hours ago. the driver of the gray jaguar may have been hurt pretty bad by that large pickup truck. a witness said the jaguar may have run through the red light and hit by the large pickup. there were two pedestrians also injured. they have may have been in the crosswalk. one witness heard the crash. then ran to her balcony to figure out what happened. >> we just heard a car crash and we came outside. we see people on the floor. >> reporter: she says a man and a woman were laying on the ground. another witness tells me the two pedestrians were carrying a box and a bottle of champagne. he figured that they had just been celebrating or were getting ready to celebrate. right now, police are still trying to figure out exactly what happened. there are still investigators here op scene asking people who were involved in that crash.

lots of questions. they do tell us that the three people who were injured were rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. reporting live in san francisco sergio quintana, abc 7 news. two people were pulled from a car that slid down an embankment tonight. it happened just after 6:00 on the willow pass road exit off interstate 680. there were two minor injuries. new at 11:00 a woman is in the hospital after falling off a cliff in pacifica. it happened around 5:30 tonight near palmetto avenue and west line drive. the rescue took nearly three hours. crews had to drop down 200 feet to reach the woman. neighbors tell us she was climbing around the secret waterfall and got into trouble. the woman has moderate injuries, but is expected to be okay. the strong winds whipping a large wildfire south of yosemite are finally starting to die down tonight. that's good news, of course, for firefighters working the round

fire. at least 40 homes have been destroyed near the nevada state line, and two small towns remain under a mandatory evacuation order. an elderly woman who died in a fire this morning in san jose has been identified. 80-year-old jenny messta was in the home. it was engulfed in flames and died. no one else was injured. striking oil workers are making themselves seen and heard in the east bay. at the refinery in martinez, they walked the picket line in the rain. this is part of a nationwide work stoppage. union employees are working for safer working conditions, better staffing and better training. replacement workers are on the job. 29 west coast ports including the one in oakland stopped loading and unloading ships this weekend. they announced a temporary work

suspension. union workers have been without a contract for nine months. the port association said there's been a work slowdown for the last three months, but the long shore workers union denies that. thousands of demonstrators took part in a march for climate leadership in oakland today. they want governor brown to ban fracking. environmentalists say brown's administration has given them the green light to drill in california. >> fracking affects the environment. the water we drink affects our health, it affects the animals. everything in the environment. and our climate. >> brown challenged protesters yesterday saying, they still drive gas-guzzling vehicles like most californians. >> with these safeguards in place, carians can benefit from affordable energy which we're

reality tv star bruce jenner was involved in a four-car crash that left one driver dead in malibu today. jenner claims he was being chased by paparazzi when the accident happened. so far, police say there's no proof of that. seven people were injured. jenner is okay. journey's lead guitarist just filed suit against the city of san francisco. he claims city officials quadrupled his fee to use a popular city landmark for his wedding to real housewives of d.c. star. the couple married in 2013 at the palace of fine arts. sean said he agreed to pay $68,000 to use the facility, and city officials hiked the cost of the permit to $240,000, less than a week before the wedding. tomorrow night on abc 7 news at 11:00, do you enjoy live music? but not fighting the crowds and

the lull in activity. storm number one has exited, now storm number two is on approach. we'll show you, it's a quiet picture. not tracking any rain currently falling in the bay area. it's rather balmy outside. current temperatures at 61 right now in san francisco. 67 in oakland. 59 in fremont. los gatos currently 60 degrees. fairfield coming in with a temperature of 55 at this hour. satellite radar will show you we're in between two systems. storm number one brought the soaking showers yesterday, pushing off into canada. storm number two, it's rapidly approaching the bay area. it's a quick-moving system though, so it's not going to be a long duration rain event. the forecast takes us into early tomorrow morning. 6:00 sunday morning. the leading edge of moisture is moving into the bay area. the heaviest of the precipitation is going to fall early sunday morning. by 9:00 there's pockets of downpours developing, and there is a chance we could hear an isolated clap of thunder, even a flash of lightning.

but as soon as the rain moves in, it quickly moves out, by sunday afternoon, 4:00 tapers to isolated and scattered showers. so this is a quick-moving event. that means we're not looking at significant rain totals, unfortunately. around the bay you do notice generally less than 1/2 of an inch of rain. santa rosa, north bay looks to get the most significant heavy rainfall with santa rosa coming close to about an inch of rain by sunday night. sunday afternoon, as the rain starts to depart, the winds are going to pick up. future wind gusts we'll show you by 3:00 sunday afternoon in san francisco gusting to 45 miles per hour. 29 in oakland. 38 miles per hour in san jose. gusting near 40 miles per hour in napa. for that reason we have a wind advisory that goes into effect at 7:00 tomorrow morning for the south winds to gusting near 50 miles per hour. once again the potential is there for downed trees and power lines once again with this second round of rain. there will be some snow some fresh powder moving into the

sierra. winter weather advisory goes into effect tomorrow afternoon at 4:00. they could see 6 to 12 inches of snow above 7,000 feet in the higher elevations, and as much as 18 inches of fresh powder. overnight tonight, temperatures not falling too far from where they are right now, with generally overcast skies. we'll see mid to upper 50s for overnight numbers. tomorrow afternoon the rain arrives early in the morning and the winds will pick up in the afternoon. temperature-wise, another warm storm. we'll get into the 60s in a lot of spots. 63 in vallejo. 67 in concord. 66 degrees in san jose. here is the accuweather forecast. wet and windsy sunday. monday we could have showers early in the morning but monday afternoon the sunshine is coming back. by tuesday the mainly sunny day, a few clouds, and even into wednesday we're warming up and entering a dry pattern. 70s start to enter the picture widespread on thursday. it feels like spring around here

26-year-old kayla mueller from arizona died in this building, destroyed by the jordanian government. mueller's family holding out hope released a statement overnight addressed directly to isis. quote, you told us that you treated kayla as your guest. as your guest, her safety and well-being remains your responsibility. there are new concerns that isis is getting help from inside the united states. this week six people arrested all immigrants from bosnia, men and women between 26 and 42 years old, all living low-key lives in low-key towns of suburban chicago st. louis, and upstate new york. they said they wired cash and used u.s. mail to send tactical equipment and military clothing to turkey, which was then smuggled to syria. they appeared in federal court in chicago this morning. she stood before the judge wearing an orange jumpsuit and an interpreter translating the charges. >> remember that people are

san francisco based see's candy has a warning for people with nut allergies. some of the valentine's day chocolates have been mislabeled and may contain coconut, almonds almonds, walnuts or pecans. some people with those allergies should avoid the eight-ounce boxes labeled classic red hearts with assorted chocolates. the candies were shipped nationwide. they can be returned for a refund. dozens of kids got to hang out with san francisco police officers today for a special screening of the new disney movie "mcfarland usa." the true story is about the 1987 championship cross-country team. abc 7 partnered with the police activities league, known as p.a.l., and disney, our parent company, for the event. >> cops are just big kids anyway, right? it's just so cool anytime that we can do stuff for the kids. so we want children to see police officers as people that they go to, that we're here to help.

the cost of living in the bay area continues to climb. not only is buying a home out of reach for many families so is renting. rents are up 52% since 2000. what can you expect when you look for a place to live. if you thought trying to buy a house in the bay area was bad, try renting. >> all across the country, rents are higher than they've ever been. >> represents in the bay area are among the highest in the nation. >> the bay area takes everything to an extreme. rents in the city of san francisco are up almost 18% higher than they were last year. >> the median rent in the city of san francisco is now just under $4,000. that's pushing people out of the city, and forcing rents to climb all across the bay area. the staggering increase in

represents got us thinking, what can you get for about $4000 in the bay area. we asked a series of agents and they showed us a wide range of options. we started with this apartment building in san francisco's alamo square. >> the living room has a view of the park. >> reporter: the cleaning crew was busy getting this sunny one-bedroom, one bath with a small office ready for a new tenant. the rate? $3,650. high rents in the city have many people looking across the bay bridge. >> i see a lot of traffic coming into the city. from the san francisco area, just looking for the amenities. >> reporter: in oakland, the rents are up more than 20 percent year over year. >> we have a stackable washer and dryer. >> reporter: this is downtown oakland, rents for $3500 a month. it has floor-to-ceiling windows, a modern kitchen, a closet roughly the size of the office we saw in san francisco. you have plenty of room here in

san bruno. >> hardwood floors throughout the home with walnut inlays around the side. >> reporter: formal dining room even an updated kitchen. it was listed for $3,300 a month. >> we think it will be rented fairly quickly. >> reporter: it did for $3,500. $200 more than they were asking. still, it's a steal for this part of the peninsula. >> for example this same home, if it was in burlingame would probably be $5000. >> reporter: economists say being close to work is driving up housing costs in the south bay. >> you've also got incredible pet growth job growth, influx of people coming into this area. >> reporter: some south bay cities are seeing double-digit spikes in demand. >> up 26%. >> i've had some properties where i posted them on the market, walking out the door for lunch, and people calling me and wanting to meet me at the property and write me a check for four years in advance for the rent. >> reporter: this three-bedroom two-bath home is just steps from
