live, this is abc 7 news. >> parts of the bay area waterlogged. a day of rain leads to street flooding toppled trees and other problems. we're getting used to this weekend. hello. we want to get right to our storm watch coverage. this is our camera on mount tam. you can see trees swaying there and other conditions in this bay area and fog and mist. most areas are getting a break. our camera shows a sunset peeking out from an ominous

layer of storm clouds. east bay got a good soaking today. this is a look at conditions on 580 this morning. we're not going to dry out just yet. let's get the latest from our news meteorologist. >> thank you. the steadiest and heaviest of the rainfall is beginning to move out of the region. live doppler 7 hd is quiet compared to this morning. you have showers well east of the bay ar yaea and now left with pockets of drizzle as we press in around sonoma and the canyon still rain showers at this hour. we see a heavy amount of rain. over an inch in concord. map pa .83 inches and san jose almost a third of an inch of rain. the other side of the storm, rather windy.

that still continues. altos nears 50 miles an hour. fso clocked a wind gust of 55 miles an hour and here a wind gust of 35 miles an hour. in the next 12 hours or so scattered drizzle likely across the bay area and gusty winds and mild with temperatures in the 50s and 60s. big changes under way for work and school. we'll have more in a few minutes. >> now let's look at the weather has left behind. cornell is live in novato where they are cleaning up. >> reporter: they really are. saturated ground likely caused this giant bay tree to fall right on top of the backyard ghazi bow in the backyard and tree crews have a big job to clean up this mess. >> it's terrible. devastating. >> reporter: she always thought

the 80 foot tree in her backyard would stand forever but it toppled early sunday morning taking out her backyard gazebo and just missing the roof line. >> they don't give you a warning hello i'm going to come down. ye. receive novato building instructors have green tagged her home. her family can stay but must keep away from back windows. >> reporter: you can't go in certain parts of your house? >> no. they told us to stay out. >> reporter: and what caused this gas station to overturn on high 301 sunday morning and gas going in a culvert that drains to the ocean. hazmat was trying to clean it up. and a traffic accident snarled traffic when a taxi and car collided after a possible spinout. no injuries. >> i was just sit gting down in my

living room. all of a sudden i see a big tree coming down, not too fast. >> reporter: richard got a shock when this tree tumbled right across the drive luckily missing any passing cars. in san francisco heavy rain caused lots of street flooding along the embarcadero. umbrellas were put to good use. they were visiting from ohio. >> it's warmer. >> reporter: what's it like where you are? >> 30 degrees. >> reporter: that's it. >> and a tree top fell on to a car below. a second car was also damaged. this happened along regal road in the berkeley hills. you can see the tree blocked the entire road. the storm blocked out power for a lot of people.

pg&e is working to restore power to 920 customers in the south bay and 70 in the north bay. at the height of the storm, more than 100,000 customers were without power in the area. courtesy of lake tahoe tv up to 2 feet of wet snow is reported at higher elevations near lake tahoe and the sierra could get another 18 inches above 8,000 feet and snow level could drop to 6,000 feet by tomorrow morning. new snow levels ranging from 10 to 24 inches. roads are snow-free but wet and no chain restrictions. fans didn't let the rain dampen their enthusiasm for their favorite team but the field was a differenter to. fans got autographs and clubhouse tours during fanfest and some had fun with the weather. we will hear from players coming

up on sports. >> show us where you live. e-mail your pictures to you report to kgo or post them to the facebook page or on twitter at abc 7 news bay area. developing news strong winds fueled a large wildfire south of yosemite is starting to die down. flames have already destroyed at least 40 homes and outbuildings and charred nearly 11,000 square miles. it started near a highway frad and 65% contained. three injuries are reported in connection with the fire. two towns are under administermandatory evacuation order. a fire appears suspicious that started just before 5:00 this morning at 20th street and 16th avenue. one person treated for a cut on the hand from breaking a window and smoke inhalation.

the fire was difficult to put out because the one story building is on a hillside and located close to other homes. a fire in santa rosa gutted a daycare. it broke out shortly before 11:00 last night on steel lane in santa rosa. the building suffered extensive interior damage and no injuries. no word what started this fire. investigators say there were wires down in the area. developing news in the case of a dismembered body found in a suitcase in san francisco. the person of interest in the case has died according to the san francisco clon "san francisco chronicle"." 54-year-old mark andros was released two weeks ago and was sent to the hospital and he died. he was seen on security video near where a headless torso was dumped. we will have more coming up at

hall of fame coach dean smith is being remembered today at the university of north carolina. smith led the tar heels to two national finals and 11 final fours before his retirement in 1997. he died at the age of 83 with his wife and five children at his side. mourners remember him as basketball royalty. >> he changed the game of basketball, all the creative ways he used to coach. his mark is left on the way other coaches coach basketball. >> it's very emotional. dean smith was just a remarkable person, so much more than a basketball coach. >> people have been leaving bouquets and handwritten notes outside the north carolina arena that bears smith's name. new details on the deadly southern california car crash involving reality star and former olympian bruce jenner. police are looking at jenner's

phone records to see if he was texting right before a crash that killed a woman on the pacific coast highway in malibu. jenner is krapting. celebrity gossip has photos that show jenner holding a cigarette not a phone in his left hand. jenner was not hurt. new video out of florida show a rescue and pulling a man out of a burning car. >> get out of the car! >> come on! go! >> we have him out. >> deputies in oak loose sa county responded to a car accident and found a man locked inside his burning car and they repeatedly yelled at him to get out as his clothes were catching fire and they pulled him through the glass to safety. investigators found the driver was drunk and treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation. up next a bay area city considering making home solar panels mandatory.

soon most new home construction could be required to include solar powered systems. the proposal would excuse homeowners building on lots with little sun exposure. instead, they could be required to find alternate ways of producing energy use. the solar power requirement would not apply to remodeling projects. it would take immediately if it is approved at next week's town

morning. many of us saw this same picture coming in showing the wicked wind and rain and rain gusting at over 40 miles an hour at times and sent it sideways at times and trees blowing across the bay area. the wind was beneficial and pushed rain level above the level to date and we need more snow to replenish our reservoirs, unfortunately that's not the pattern we're seeing. 64 in san francisco, 66 in hayward, 61 in fairmont free ward and 61 in loss los gatos,. there was an initial band of showers as the front moves through. as the area of low pressure scrapes by northern california the next couple of hours it will likely touch off scattered

new snow possible at higher elevations. look what happens when the storm departs, our stomp door shuts and we warm up. 60 degrees. later this week we will flirt with 70 for several days on the 7-day forecast. overnight low drizzle and temperatures in the 50s. tomorrow morning tapering to partly cloudy skies by the afternoon and temperatures topping out in the low and mid-60s. the accurate 7-day forecast. tomorrow, pockets of drizzle and we expect dense fog and sunshine. wednesday, a warming trend rather mild. we're calling it a spring fling, temperatures well above normal in the 70s. valentine's day looking nice. and that continues through sunday of next week. looks like the storm doors are shut next week. >> got it. still feel like nobody invited
