(record scratch) you say stand n' stuff tortillas old el paso says... start somewhere fresh live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. major fallout from the overnight storm that knocked down trees and power lines. we are looking at the damage in the santa cruz mountains that shut down state route 9 south of route 35. it is such a mess that it will not be re-opened for hours probably. good morning i am kristen sze. >> sky 7 shows you the storm damage from the air right now overstate route 9 south of 35. this happened about 3:40 this morning when a 3-4' diameter tree fell across the road. no one is getting in out or.

matt keller is near the scene. >> this is a big inconvenience for those who drive into silicon valley. the people who live in the santa cruz mountains are used to this when a big storm rolls through. >> you cannot say you were not wanted signs on 280 and highway 9 tell you this stretch is block off at the place the locals call the gap the santa clara santa cruz line. three miles away on the santa cruz side you can see why: the weekend rain was too much for the hillside to bear and now art and mary's trip just got bigger to big basin. when all the mud is moved by caltran, pg&e will replace this. caltran will send someone to check for more cracks on the hillside. if there are cracks they may have to remove the trees at the top to stabilize all of the mud. of course this is taking place in the santa cruz mountains

there was wind so intense i thought it was bling in the back door and there was a loud explosion, a loud flash and the power on the out. >> blowing hard, probably gale force winds gusts to 60 miles per hour and the power went out. i went outside to investigate and this is what you got. >> pg&e says 382 customers in that neighborhood are still without power. crews from vallejo, at&t and tree trimmers are there right now waiting to go to work but they can't until pg&e cuts power to the line first. the power company says they are on their way. >> napa homeowner says the storm was so powerful she thought it could be an earthquake and she realize the a giant 60' oak tree fell on her home last night at 10:30 at nursery street. the woman was not hurt but her home was damaged. >> after the wave of storms

which have knocked out power across the bay area with the biggest outage in the north bay where a thousand customers of pg&e have no electricity. 410 east bay homes and businesses in the dark and 340 on the peninsula and another 210 in the south by. pg&e tells us more than 150,000 customers have been affected by outages since friday. power has been restored to almost all of them. >> some storm clouds are still hanging around the area as you can see in this look from the camera. you can see the rain drops, a few places are still seeing wet weather. for more on that we will check with meteorologist mike nicco. it is still breezy. the storm started off with wind and we transitioned to rain and then wind and then rain going hand in hand. we went from 55 miles per hour winds and 54 miles per hour and 46 at oakland and san jose state and 40-miles-per-hour gust.

days after being released from jail. a very unexpected development that investigators say could cause problems as the case unfolds. here he is on tuesday with public defender. he is seen leaving san francisco jail a free man after the district attorney decided not to file charges citing "lack evidence." police still considered him a suspect. a suitcase containing a human torso was discovered in san francisco's south of market neighborhood. andrus was spotted on surveillance video in the area where the body parts were found wheeling a suitcase. he was then taken into custody january 30 and arrested the next day on suggestion of murder. saturday andrus checked himself into a hospital for drug-related issues and later died. his friend said that mark andrus came to his apartment to borrow a sleeping bag and main attended his innocence. >> he felt sad and you know

depressed i guess. but it seemed like he was trying to deal with it as best he could. >> a former homicide investigator said the death could complicate the case down the line especially if it is classified as "homicide," and if another suspect emerged. that person could blame mark andrus now he is not here to defend himself. police suspect the remains could be one of mark andrus' friend and former roommate. the medical examiner has not made an i.d. or determined a cause of death. a stretch of highway one in the north bay has re-opened after an accident involving a gas tanker that overturned yesterday morning filling 1,200 gallons of gas on the road and into the drainage ditch. some of the gas did spill into the ocean. hazardous materials team spent most day cloning the spill and the road re-opened at 3:30 this morning. driver suffered minor injuries.

>> a driver accused of killing a woman during a street race in san jose is expected to face a judge today. san jose police officer believe two men were racing on yerba buena island road and then collided two weeks ago on january 26 and one of the cars tore through a guardrail and hit 24-year-old jogger. an arraignment will take place for one of the suspects, gabriel esparza this afternoon. the other driver returns to court next month. >> ahead a battle brewing over same-sex marriage with a controversy that forced the nation's highest court to step in. >> and we weigh in on women in the workplace with sharon sandburg and the stereotype that stillist ands. >> hidden health benefits of a treadmill desk. stay tuned.

>> alabama became the 37th state to legalize same-sex marriage today. the first marriage licenses were issued this morning after the united states supreme court said it would not stop the marriages. justice thomas criticized his colleagues for retuesdaying to block same-sex marriages in alabama into the court results issued nationwide. tom said that the court's order could seen as a signal that justices already have decided they will declare that same-sex couples have a right to marry under the constitution. the private car service uber
