o this is abc7 news. >> i get down. >> tonight a young boy with leukemia is making an impassioned plea for all children to get vaccinated against measles. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm ama daetz. it happened at a school board meeting. >> lilian kim is live tonight with this story. lilian, he was affected. >> dan marin county residents have certainly developed a reputation for being wary of vaccines, but tonight the reid union school district defied the stereo type. >> soon we will say gone with the measles. >> 6-year-old leukemia survivor rett will get his measles shot in a matter of days. it will be one year since his last chemo session and will be

finally well enough to withstand the vaccine. >> this is not about rett anymore. it is about the expectant mothers and the babies and the hundreds of kids currently with suppressed immune systems. >> tonight rhett's irnts pa urge the bill for every student vaccinated. no more personal belief exemptions. the only exemption is for kids too sick to get the vaccine. >> the rate of adverse effects from vaccination is much less than the disease itself. >> marin county has the state's highest number of personal belief. 6.5% of all kindergardenerses. if the bill becomes law, he is not sure what he will do. his daughter is only partially immunized because he is not convinced that the vaccines are 100% safe. >> whether i could get a medical exemption for my

daughter or not i don't know. >> if the bill passes california will join 33 other states that do not allow perm -- personal belief exemptions. new at 11:00, an emergency clean up crew has responded to an oil spill in martinez. two barrels with 84 gallons of oil spilled during a crude oil pipeline test. the crews laid booms and used skimmers to keep the spill from spreading. it took 30 minutes to trap the oil. >> when ever there is oil in the water we always are concerned about where it could spread. we deploy every mechanism we can to contain it. we believe we have successfully contained it. >> the oil is now contained under the dock where tankers are loaded. the next step will be to fully absorb it from the water. on the peninsula, police are investigating after a man followed a woman into a community center ladies' room and took photos of her. this is the second time this

has happened at the community center in pally alto. lisa amin gulezian joins us with the story. >> this is where the first crime happened. police say a man walked in used his cell phone to take photos of a woman as she used the bathroom. >> they come for basketball practice daycare and college courses. and thousand someone is using the women's room for their own disturbing fantasies. >> it is very bold and frankly disgusting. >> a man followed a woman to this bathroom in the jay wing. while she was in a stall he used his cell phone to take photos. she noticed and started screaming. another woman reported the same crime in the a wing in july. >> are you worried this person could escalate? >> i am. >> people are worried. >> i use that bath rook

frequently. i have never seen anything like that happen. it is scary. >> that's disgusting. it is alarming. >> the suspect was pushing a metal cart down a hallway before last night's crime. police hope to have a sketch by tomorrow. in palo alto, lisa amin gulezian abc7 news. the family of an american aid worker held hostage by isis says they will honor her legacy after confirming her death. kayla mueller is from arizona and went to syria to work with war refugees. isis claimed she died in a jordanian airstrike. they want this -- these photos to be how people remember mueller, a girl who dedicated her life to causes. >> she had a free spirit and always standing up for those who were suffering and wanting to be their voice. >> kayla's family released a letter saying "i have been shown darkness, light and

learned that even in prison one can be free. i am grateful." president obama said he will bring to justice those responsible for kayla mueller's captivity and death. the president will submit a request to use force against isis with a stipulation that there will be no long-term combat operations. several large aircraft surprised people when they landed on stanford's campus today. that's an osprey aircraft. they escort the president when he is in marine 1. three were spotted with a fourth similar to marine 1. president obama will be on campus on friday to deliver the keynote address at a cyber security conference. a highly anticipated berkeley city council meeting will result in big changes. alan wang is live at city hall where the council just took

significant action. >> the council voted within the hour and decided to ban the rubber bullets and teargas on nonviolent crowds. they also decided to put body cameras on police officers and investigate their actions that took place on december 6th. >> two people tried to pick me up and they were beaten with batons as well. >> the berkeley police department's use of force and crowd control tactics during a december 6th protest prompted the call for change. >> i am trying to assist her to get out of the pathway to which point the police threw flash grenades at us. on fire flaming smoking. >> protesters and some councilmembers called for an end on the teargas and rubber bullets they used and others called for body cameras on police officers and some complained about the department's heavily redacted insurancent dent report. incident report. >> it is a cloak of silence and noncooperation and that's

finney was first to investigate this mysterious outbreak. >> fit bit promised that new products would be safe to wear. three new fit bit trackers came out of the holidays and already users report they are causing more skin irritation. now many want to know why is this happening? >> it remends me that i need to get out from -- it remends me that i need to get out from my desk. >> they got the fit bit charge as a holiday gift. now when they go for walks fit bit counts their steps. >> it is a competition group and it is to see who is walking the furthest. >> it also gives her this annoying rash. >> the itching bothers me. >> one of the co workers got a rash and they are not alone. >> i immediately started noticing the red raised area. >> they got a rash where the old fit bit force and so she

tried the new fit bit charge but it gave her a rash too. >> she posted this photo on the fit bit website. >> they said if this happens to you again if they had any doctors to let them know. >> they showed me photos of his irritation after wearing the fit bit surge released just last month. he took it off and the rash did not go away. >> i am concerned what else it is going to do or how much worse it is going to get. >> he would not agree to an interview. in a statement the new trackers say they are safe. they useless nickel and no add he is sighs -- adhesives. and park said the number of customers reporting rashes of the new products is negligible. we discovered 200 cases being tweeted. one, does anybody get a rash

while using the fit bit? he said he got this from the new surge and it seems like the force has awakened. not cool guys. this user says fit bit tried but didn't succeed. my charge has given me a nasty rash. fit bit says rashes can happen with any tracker. a check of three brands, nike, jawbone and garmon finds rashes most from nickel allergies, but none as widespread as fit bit. >> fit bit promised they would be a rash free company and that's not what we are seeing here. >> this yahoo! tech writer thought the fit bit rashes were over blown until she was assigned to review the charge. >> after i started wearing it for two or three days i developed a rash under it. i was floored. >> she posted these photos with her story and told fit bit about her rash. >> they are not willing to take the blame for the red,

itchy rash on my arm. >> they included a warning with the new trackers in tiny print saying this device could cause skin irritation. if you notice redness, swelling or itchiness, discontinue use. they say the latest rashes are likely caused bayousers wearing the band too tight or by sweat water and soap under the device. however, users we talk to say they did keep it loose and clean. >> yet i experienced the irritation. >> what causes the rashes? 7 on your side is still digging for answers. we obtained documents that fit bit filed with the consumer product safety commission about what caused the force outbreak. we got 802 pages and almost all blank. the government is saying fit bit has a ride to hide trade secrets and leaving customers to wonder -- >> why do i have a rash? is there something bad for me in here?
