see the president firsthand and possibly shake his hand now. sometimes the over to the crowd and shake and do some shakings of hands, but that dependses on his schedule, if he's on time. he will be heading to san francisco from here. once the presidential motorcade leaves here, it will likely head up highway 101 into the city, which means rolling traffic breaks on jam packed 101 in the middle of rush hour, of course. the chp says they'll make the shutdowns as painless as possible. >> there will be some lane closures today, there will be some on and off ramp closures as well as some freeway closures. these will all be temporary our goal is to have the railway closed for as little time as possible. >> here's the president's first destination of fairmount hotel in california. we went by there earlier today the no parking signs were already posted for several blocks with barricades waiting to be set up. tourists have already checked in

to the fairmount, have been told what to expect. >> we were told to expect extra security and perhaps not being able to leave the hotel at certain times and the roads would be blocked. >> it turns out not just the roads, a couple cable car lines too, both the california and powell streetlines will be shut don during this busy holiday weekend until the president leaves san francisco saturday. the president has no public events scheduled for tonight. but he does have a full day tomorrow he will be at stanford university, he'll attend a summit, rather a cyber security summit, we're told that's the first of its kind and it will be attended by corporate executives, and, of course a lot of them from silicon valley, at this point we are waiting for the president for air force one to land here at sfo. we're told he may be a bit early, may be around 5:15 5:18,

5:30. that's the latest from sfo vick lee lee, abc 7 news. as you take a look at traffic in the bay area, a lot of red on that screen meaning it's awfully slow going, we will keep you posted as the president gets a little closer to the bay area landing any minute now. before he left washington, he signed a bill to help prevent suicides among our war veterans. the bill creates a pilot program to provide veterans with available mental health services. and requires the va's suicide prevention programs to be evaluated by a third party. >> a 23-year-old man was depressed and suicidal when he was shot and killed by police in san francisco. it was his fiancee's house and

her family said watkins made that 911 call themselves. they say they are baffled by the way quickly things fell apart. >> he needed help. he told me he was unhappy he was sad. he didn't feel like things were going right in his life. and he didn't know if he wanted to live. >> watkins is described as an athlete who used to play football. he was working at walmart and loved his 2-year-old little girl. he did not have a history of mental illness. the city of san jose is making a new offer to try to end a bitter lengthy dispute with labor unions. it cuts in half the amount of future pension cuts. this offer is the first since the new city council and mayor sam lacardo took over in january. the union is saying the offer does not go far enough. the issue of pension reform has

prompted hundreds of officers to leave san jose for jobs elsewhere. >> also in san jose tonight, city leaders are launching a new campaign against crime. the centerpiece of the plan involves ordinary people who want to help make their communities safer. >> it's a really great point that you made at a time when police resources are limits. the city is asking anyone who owns a security camera to be a part of a database of sorts that police can tap into, in the event they need help solving a crime. >> if you don't get the videotape right away, it's lost for all time. >> as a former district attorney, sam lacarto knows that video can play a crucial role in a case. >> the city just launched a new security camera registry, which allows people to go online and notify police they have cameras on their property. >> it will not allow police

officers to view live feeds so there's no big brother going on here. it's a voluntary program. >> the registry will give police access to cameras in the area where a crime may have occurred. police launched a similar program two years ago, of all the residential burglary cases in 2014, detectives were twice as likely to solve the case if video was involved. it's encouraging news to mike miranda who plans on signing up for the program tonight. this will definitely help. >> he's already put in dozens of cameras at the restaurant. with resources stretched so thin, it's an opportunity to add another level of security. >> this is something that can help us make the arrests on those burglaries that are so critical. it's often just two or three arrests that will take care of an entire spike of burglaries we know it's a small number of burglars committing a crime.

last week to dismiss the charges against them. the judge took the matter under consideration and has not issued a ruling yet. >> san francisco police want help finding a suspect who assaulted an officer last month. the suspect you see in these surveillance photos fled from officers january 23rd. the man was running away, authorities say he knocked an officer off a raised muni platform near fourth street and king. if you can identify this man, please contact san francisco police. three california lawmakers are pushing to require all children in head start programs nationwide to get vaccinated against measles. the effort is by u.s. senators barbara boxer and dianne feinstein. it comes after the recent measles outbreak that infected more than a million people. doctors say it might be time to consider vaccinating even earlier starting with nine-month-old babies. that would mean more shots. >> if we do give it at nine months, what we end up doing is we have to give it again at 15 months, and do it again at 4 to

side's michael finnian. staggering numbers. >> the numbers are unbelievable. and you might be surprised. i'll have more on that tonight at 11:00, here on abc 7. you do not want to miss it this is what everyone's going to be talking about tomorrow. >> right now i want to talk about hydrogen powered vehicles electric vehicles so yesterday. for a long time hydrogen has been a clean fuel dream. several automakers are introducing them consumer reports checks out hyundai's entrance into the field. this looks just like a typical small suv. it's not, it's powered by hydrogen. these vehicles use a fuel cell instead of a battery. the fuel cell is replenished with hydrogen, combined with oxygen, and the result is electricity to power the car. water is the only emotion consumer reports is evaluating

the hyundai tucson many. >> it drives like a normal tucson, without an engine, it's much quieter. hyundai claims it will go 264 miles before you need to refuel it. >> it doesn't take hours to charge. it should take five minutes or less at a hydrogen refueling station. currently there are only about a dozen hydrogen fueling stations in the united states mainly on the west coast so at this point hyundai is just making the fuel cell vehicle available in california and only with a lease. $500 a month. >> fuel cell technology is promising. it's advanceing at a pretty rapid rate. >> other fuel cell cars are coming soon. one from toyota, another from honda. the state of california and toyota plan to build about 40 more fueling stations by 2016. >> the only hydrogen cars
