sergio is live with the cleanup. >> reporter: it took crews an hour to cut up the massive tree, so they can allow for traffic in one lane in both directions to continue through. you can see right now traffic is moving pretty slowly through the street. let's go to video to show you this huge tree seems to have come apart at the roots and then collapsed over the street. fire crews quickly went to work with the chain saws, cutting it apart. it came down at a time when there is usually quite a bit of foot traffic through what is a pretty busy street, but witnesses say no one was hurt and no cars were damaged when it came down. >> the tree just slowly started to fall and tip, and then luckily there was no cars on the street. but it was crazy. >> a car had just passed through the intersection and got caught by the back branches, and she just parked her car -- took a picture of the tree and keep on

moving. >> and joshua says that the tree did come down over the muni power lines, but they didn't snap. we saw muni and pg&e crews arrive to deenergize the lines, examine them and make sure that they were not damaged. and you can see right now there are crews that are doing the very noisy part of the rest of the cleanup here. they are sending what is left of the limbs and huge trunk of the tree through the chipper that is likely going to be here for a few more minutes. >> a few stolen cigars may have led to the killing of a man in san jose last night. cornell bernard is live in the newsroom with new developments. >> reporter: police have no suspects in the case which began with a petty theft. friends say the victim was a popular security guard what was always trying to keep people

safe. >> yeah, really scary. >> this security guard is shaken of the shooting death of a fellow guard. >> one day the man out here have to do my job. >> flowers and candles are being left in the parking not memory of a man known only as manny, gunned down saturday night. >> we love him. the people next door, all the worker they cry. >> liquor store owner sonny says manny was a security guard at the club next door but always watched his store. he says two men bought liquor at 9:15, and then returned later and stole cigars and ran. >> everything on the floor. the box of cigar, everything on the floor. >> witness says manny hearted the scuffle and came to help but was shot and killed. >> the other guy on the outside in the car they shoot him. >> a bullet shattered the window of the liquor store and this large window of the nightclub.

rolled at least five times. the subaru took off and went away the guy on the ground wasn't moving anymore. it's like chased after the subaru for a block. i told him you got go back. he went back. >> police are still sorting out why the man was trying to get into the surfer's car. concord police say man would tried to steal a vehicle at gunpoint failed because he couldn't drive a stick shift. it happened on monument boulevard this morning. police say the owner got into this car and found the carjacker in the passenger seat in the middle of a burglary. the suspect ordered the victim to drive him to another location, where he forced the owner out of the car. police say the carjacker tried to drive off but couldn't use the stick shift. so instead he ran off. new details about the san francisco building that burned last mock in the mission district. fire inspectors found years of safety violations. according to the san francisco chronicle, officials say there

were missing fire extinguishers, blocked fire escapes, blocked exits and smoke alarms were not working. one man died in the fire and dozens of people are displaced from their homes. the building did pass the last fire inspection in august, but officials say that was apparently because of, quote sloppy documentation by the fire department. certainly a beautiful holiday weekend in the bay area, and people taking full advantage of it. in fact so many people hit the beaches and parks in west marin county, the sheriff tweeted that local restaurants actually ran out of food yesterday. taking a live look from the sutro tower cam. the sun shined on san francisco today, continuing our unusually warm winter. abc7 news meteorologist drew tuma with a look at live doppler 7hd. >> i sound like a broken record talking about the records being broken but that that's pattern we have been in. setting new records this

outside. our golden gate bridge camera on this warm sunday evening, you can still see folks enjoying temperatures, taking photos of this landmark. san francisco is on the way to the warmest winter ever recorded. when you take the afternoon high and the overnight low since december 1st the average temperature is 56.4 degrees. nearly one degree better than the warmest winter ever recorded, the winter of 1958 to 1959. so it has been certainly a mild time this past weekend, that's the trend the entire season. right now, san carlos, 72. 69 in downtown san francisco. the same in oakland, 67 danville. fairfield, 61. satellite and radar shows you the story. we're tracking high pressure in control over the west coast bringing us dry conditions and also the warming numbers. there are storms out in the pacific but they will go well north of the region. changes coming for tuesday. the reason why, this high moves

to the east and we get a wind off of the cooler ocean water. so that will bring us clouds and also drop our temperatures. so take a look at the forecast for the holiday tomorrow. looking great. warm sunny weather then the changes come tuesday morning. watch as the clouds really push into the bay area, and they're going to linger, especially along the coast. tuesday afternoon, very tough to get rid of this cloud cover. so that will keep temperatures on the cool side, and back normallen cozy. so future tracker temperatures, monday afternoon, very similar pattern, upper 60s to mid-70s across the board. tuesday afternoon watch what happens as clouds linger around the coast. so upper 50s, maybe the best at half moon bay. tough to get to 60 in san francisco. the farther you are inland the more sunshine you'll see and the warmer you'll get into the 60s and potentially lower 70s. so overnight lows for tonight, a quiet night. plenty of stars. 51 in san francisco, 45, oakland, dropping to 44 in san jose. as you plan your holiday
