14-year-old approached the crosswalk against the signal meaning he did not have the right of way. the car hit him. the driver according to police was not at fault. the driver was following the 35-mile-per-hour speed limit. christopher was being taken to children's hospital oakland, but then according to police there were complications and the ambulance then took him to john muir hospital in walnut creek. the school district issued this statement today. they went onto say there will be a crisis team on campus tomorrow to support students and staff. they will also try to set up a fund to help the family. live in concord for abc 7 news. all right, leann. thank you. we are getting new information about the the murder of a

college student last december. joel ramirez was shot to death as he drove up to his home. police now say the 21-year-old was not the intended target of the shooter. they say that illegal operation was likely tied to the shooting. police say he knew ram ruz was innocent but withheld that on purpose. >> joel was not intended to be killed that day. we knew early on had we released the details there was a chance somebody else who was the intended target that day may have been killed. >> ramirez was studying to become a police officer. authorities are offering $25,000 in reward for information leading to the arrest of his killer. a series of explosions rocked santa rosa today.

it gutted a house, and killed three cats. police discovered gas containers in the house. they're often associated with making hash oil. neighbors say the blast woke them up out of a deep sleep. there's no water supply in the area, so it was tough to put out the flames. >> another explosion. the blast sent ash raining down on the area. four workers suffered minor injuries. david louie is live in san jose with how the accident is going to affect gas prices. david? >> well, we're hearing from experts that the state could lose about 16 pblgt of the gasoline production if they have to shut down. we already have a shutdown of the plant in martinez. so gas prices will be inching up.

although not to last year's levels. there's no doubt among drivers that gas prices are rising. it surprises me how much they've gone up. >> this explosion is not going to help. such as the refinery in martinez. alison is a petroleum. >> it's currently shut down. it's not functioning or producing. we are all causing these to kick up. >> gas prices today are up about two cents a gallon from yesterday in the three major bay area cities. up 12 cents compared to last week. and up 25 cents from a month ago in san jose and oakland. the exception is san francisco, where gas prices are up 16 cents

for last month. these control 16% of the gas supply in the state. and as a result gas prices will go up. >> they are projecting gas prices to go up 20 to 40 cents a gallon. gallon. >> so it's taking a bigger bite every time you fill up. >> yes. >> you're not happy about that? >> no. >> exxon mobil is not saying how the fire will impact the operations. david louie, abc 7 news. a closer look at surveillance video from last month's breach doesn't show much. airport officials released the footage of last month's fence scaling incident. the headlines in the middle of the screen are airport security

finding the the pres passer. he somehow survived the more than five-hour flight to hawaii. police serving a search warrant ended up shooting at the suspects. police were serving the warrant as an investigation into a series of armeded robberies. police say one of the guys pointed a gun. and witnesses say they heard at least six shots. >> the first five were kind of -- they seemed far away. but the last one was very close. it hit a window i believe. >> it looked serious. i was over here this. >> police say no one was

injured. two people, a man and a woman welcome taken into custody. gilroy police are working around the clock in an effort to capture two women wanted for murder. they're accused of killing the 56-year-old inside his home on monday. they were spotted inside a store in east san jose. you see them here. with property belonging to either. there's another look at the women here. police describe them as hispanic between the ages of 18 and 25. a tough ride home for oakland school kids on a field trip in marin county. check out this video. you can see the bus got stuck off muir beach. the bus bottomed out as the driver tried to make a right turn onto the highway. the kids got out safely and waited for the tow truck. the bus was freed and back on the road about an hour after getting stuck.

fire crews had to use the jaws of life to free a woman trapped inside her car. she smashed into several cars this morning. investigators believe drugs or alcohol played a role. the woman was not seriously hurt. but could face criminal charges. >> some homeowners are not happy this afternoon after a water line break flooded their backyard. sky 7 hd was over the scene earlier on cornwall court. it sent muddy water into this swimming pool. east bay says they usually is one or two breaks like this along the 90-mile aqueduct system. repairs could take up to a week. angry homeowners are considering a lawsuit. senator barbara boxer is pushing for a new law to ensure more children are protected against measles. abc 7 news was in emeryville when she joined richard pan at the head start center to talk about the importance of childhood vaccinations.

boxer wrote the head start on vaccinations act to ensure more than 1 million children in head start and early had start nationally are fully vaccinated. >> you're not just making a decision about your child. you're making a decision about all the children your child will come in contact with. >> just today state health officials confirmed a total of 119 measles cases in california. the annual number of measles cases in the state from 2013 was just nine. so a huge difference this year. enough is enough. airlines are flying high on the billions being charged in change fees. what they want to do about it coming up. some are asking the question, are there too many restaurants downtown? and if so, what should be done about it? i'll have the story coming up. plus today's rare gathering

as you have probably noticed with the recovering economy, the bay area restaurant scene is red hot. but there is one community where city leaders think there may be too much of a good thing. chris nguyen is live with the story. chris? >> reporter: good evening. there are more than two dozen restaurants. blue line pizza is one of them. while it's great to have so many choices in such a small area some are wondering if it's too

much. it's the lack of retail competition that is concerning to some. >> we love to come out here and see our neighbors go by and see the fancy cars that drive by it's very enjoyable. >> in 2007 restaurants and bars made up 27% of the commercial real estate landscape in downtown campbell. it's now up to 40%, leaving some to wonder if there's enough of a balance with retail and parking. >> i would really like to be able to do some shopping. i love the smaller stores that are in smaller towns, and we don't have a lot of them around here. >> a city council study session was conducted this week. city staff hope to have recommendations by the start of the summer. among the ideas, the readable mention of what's being called parking in lieu fees. where any new restaurant would be required to pay for addition na l parking spaces down the line. the vice mayor hopes to help them succeed. >> maybe shifting across the the tracks. >> he strategically opened up

>> lo hearing those stories. a major airline is charging billions for making you change your flight. >> now a consumer group wants a cap on change fees. >> michael finney is here with that story. >> interesting request. reregulating airlines is what your talking about. the group says airlines are charging up to $750 just to change an international flight. they are asking the u.s. department of transportation to limit the fees to 1 # $00$100. the carriers say it discourages last-minute cancellations and help keep their flights full. no response yet from transportation officials. they've been reluctant with the airline pricing since the industry was deregulated way

back in 1978. nestle announced it will be the first major candy maker to eliminate all artificial colors and flavors in its chocolate bars. nestle will change the recipes by years end in 250 products. including nestle crunch butter finger and baby ruth. among the changes the use of real vanilla extract instead of artificial vanilla. nestle says the candy will taste the same. and if you wear makeup you want it to last long. do the 24-hour products really work? a couple of makeup artists put them to the dust.test. they applyied drugstore cosmetics on one sister. they did a workout. they slept in the makeup and took a dip in the pool. >> it's really dry. so is the eyeliner. and the mascara.

there. here's a look at the forecast. low clouds increase. mostly sunny and mild. spring like warmth will continue into next week. not through next week. high pressure here. we're looking at little change the next few days. minor fluctuations in temperatures possible. some change will occur towards the weekend. there's an upper level low friday night that will drop down towards the sierra. for u.s. just a dip in the temperatures for the second half of the weekend. snow showers in the tahoe area for saturday into sunday. we have an opportunity for rain. take a look at the forecast. a chance of rain in nine to ten days. models have been consistently showing this. tomorrow morning we have areas of low clouds and fog.

a classroom lesson on the chinese zodiag got a little noisy today. the the kids dressed as dragons walked the halls where students for other classroom cheered them on and made noise to ward off the evil spirits. it's a tradition that dates back 20 years a t the school. tomorrow marks the beginning of the year of the ram on the lunar new year calendar. the city of morgan hill is taking its reputation as a haven for spiders to a new level. the city will be spending $400,000 to erect a giant arachnid on the side of its parking garage. the idea is sparking talk in the south bay city, which is what art is supposed to do.
