good afternoon, everyone. before oakland is shut down again today, another casualty of the ongoing labor dispute. >> there is some hope though the pacific maritime association did spend the time talking. laura anthony joins us live at the port of oakland with the latest. laura? >> if you remember the port was closed completely for most of the past holiday weekend. it's closed today. longshoreman had their union meeting. work is expected to resume here at 5:00 in about one hour. in the meantime, the disruption, the local businesses. it's deepening.

the lingering labor dispute at the port of oakland could start to hit bay area coffee drinkers where it hurts. not only because varieties are more limited but the costco go up. >> we have organics from honduras colombian, sumatran. >> reporter: a roaster who relies on imported beans that almost all arrive by ship. >> we're not necessarily running out of coffee, but as each day goes on, every single pound every single bean of coffee that coffee roasters roast here in the u.s. comes off the boat basically. >> we've had to reach out to customers to be patient with us. >> mike is also feeling the pinch. almost all brands they carry come from some country in asia. >> we have had cases where items are at the port sitting there, and, you know, everything is all good, but we just need to be a little more patient. >> so far the livery port issue

just means longer wait. that could change if the labor dispute isn't resolved soon. laura anthony abc 7 news. the big explosion at a southern california exxon mobil refinery already increased gas prices. that has caused about a two cents a gallon hike at gas stations according to aaa. a spokesperson says the blast and the shutdown of the golden eagle refinery in the east bay are squeezing the supply of gas. the cause of yesterday's explosion that injured four workers is still under investigation. update now on that big water leak that flooded homes in the east bay. crews in walnut creek drained one of three large pipes that delivers water to east bay customers in the sierra foothills. they're digging up the area so the aqueduct can be replaced.

replacement requires a big response. >> breaks such as these are infrequent. they require all hands on deck response response. that's why the crews are out here today. >> no one is without water service. east bay is trying to figure out the cause of the leak. a minor crash involving a chp officer caused a big backup on the bay bridge yesterday afternoon just about noon. the officer lost control of his bike as he was trying to pull over another motorcycle. he was able to lay the bike down and just has some bad bruises. two eastbound lanes were closed during that cleanup. another highway patrol officer pulled the other cyclist over. and wrote him another ticket the first officer was trying to give him. >> the wells fargo history

museum in san francisco is back open today. it opened a little more than three weeks after a brazen heist. gold nuggets worth around $10,000 were stolen after masked thieves crashed their suvs right through the glass doors of the museum. new displays containing more gold have replaced those stolen nuggets which have not been recovered. there's extra security in place as well protecting the gold the fbi will not say exactly what it is. one suspect is in custody, another is still on the loose after a shooting last night that wounded two people at a san jose sports bar. >> the shooting took place in an area that's seen his share of violence lately. >> bottles and glasses were still on the table at this sports bar this morning in san jose. on the floor, a puddle of blood, the manager was in the kitchen when the shooting started last night, just before 10:00. he called 911.

>> when i got back i called again opinion. >> police say two men were shot, the most seriously injured man is in critical but stable condition. one man was arrested and faces an assault with a deadly weapons charge. police are still looking for one more suspect. >> the street is crazy. >> reporter: this is the fifth shooting incident in or around a vietnamese cafe restaurant or nightclub this year in san jose, and the third in the past week. the most recent was february 14th, about a mile away from the sports bar. a security guard for the club was shot and killed after a liquor store theft next door. on february 11th about a half mile away from a sports bar, one man died on south capitol avenue. >> our gang unit is aware of the recent violence that's been occurring at some of these cafe cafes. and they will go ahead and conduct follow-up investigation on them as well.

>> reporter: police are speaking with witnesses as they try to track down that second suspect. a santa clara university student accused of stabbing his roommate made his first court appearance today. abc 7 news was in santa clara county's superior court. kim is accused of stabbing his roommate in the throat, neck and shoulder, the roommate managed to escape and is expected to recover. police say kim slashed his own throat right before he was arrested. he's being held without bail. exceptionally high tides this morning. today was the third straight day of king tides. scientists keep an eye on these to predict coastal flood risks. nearly 350,000 miles of roads are some of the things that are at risk in california because of rising sea levels. unfortunately, that's about the

only water we're about to see. nothing's rained here. more warm conditioned outside today. the low clouds hung around a little more than we expected. we have mostly sunny skies right now. there are still low clouds around, they don't predominate. 24 hour temperature change though reflects the cooling. anywhere from 1 to 7 degrees cooler right now than at this hour yesterday. it's 2 degrees warmer than it is yesterday. here's a lovely view from our tower camera. currently 60 here in san francisco. palo alto, 65 looking toward mount diablo mostly blue skies, temperatures in the upper 60s in santa rosa. concord, livermore in the mid-60s right now. we look at some low clouds in the golden gate. low clouds will linger in the

morning hours, mostly sunny skies by tomorrow afternoon mild conditions highs ranging from the low 60s at the coast to low 70s inland. i'll give you our chances for rain in the foreseeable future. the largest retailer wants to make its employees happier, so they're going to raise their wages. >> walmart raised today a half million ploys will start making $9 an hour or more in april. by this time next year the company hopes that all hourly employees will make at least $10 an hour employees at sam's club warehouses will also benefit from the raise. preparations are underway in san francisco to mark tomorrow's 100th anniversary of the start of the panama pacific international exposition. the world's fair opened on february 20th 1915. >> the california historical society is exhibiting art facts from the fair the first trans

doctors warn nearly 180 patients treated at ucla's ronald reagan medical center may have been exposed to a potentially deadly bacteria. abc news reporter ted rowlands has more on how the incidents potentially linked to two deaths is raising some disturbing questions about the way medical instruments are cleaned. >> the l.a. medical center is scrambling to find out why 179 patients from october through january were exposed to a super bug that has a death rate as high as 50%.

>> it's a very potent virulent organism that can cause death. >> reporter: staff at ucla say the virus was spread by two endoscopes used? a variety of procedures. seven patients have tested positive so far. the outbreak may have been contributing factors in two deaths. similar outbreaks have affected patients in recent years in seattle, pittsburgh and chicago. ucla is claiming the scopes were cleaned properly, but that it's now using a process that goes above and beyond the manufacturer and national standards. >> they can't find a breakdown in any of those cleaning procedures. there's something going on here whether they have to change the procedures or not. there's a aren't scopes are spreading this in hospitals. >> reporter: because of what happened at ucla. the fda issued a safety alert urging hospitals to closely follow the cleaning guidelines for reuseable scopes. here's something you won't

see every day on the streets of san francisco, a ram roaming around brought out to celebrate the lunar new year. >> celebrations are happening across the globe. and the bay area is no exception. abc 7 news reporter chris winn is live in chinatown to show us the festivities there. hi chris. >> chinatown has been packed all day long with people who have seen a lot of people taking pictures in front of the entrance to chinatown behind me. you can bet with all these people out here many restaurants and businesses will certainly be busy throughout the next two weeks as people come out to celebrate the lunar new year. >> customers anxiously awaited their turn for a table. nearly every seat taken as people came out to ring in the lunar new year. >> i was looking for noodles to eat for lunch but they're so packed you couldn't even order takeout. >> chinese american jennifer doken moved to san francisco nearly two years ago today was her first visit to chinatown.

bay, these are the forecast features low clouds will expand overnight. i'll show you why a familiar pattern shows up on the satellite image. a big ridge of high pressure that's been in place for a week or longer. it will be holding steady through saturday. and get ready for this cold upper level low, which is northeast at the moment. it will drop down on sunday and drop our temperatures a few degrees as well. not likely to produce any significant precipitation in the bay area although there's a slight chance of showers from the system in the south bay, and a slight chance of snow showers in the sierra south of lake tahoe. that will be sunday afternoon. looking long range. we showed you this, it looked like we had a pretty decent chance of some rain late next week, friday or saturday. now, those chances are fading again as we approach the end of february and beginning of march it looks like not much of a chance of precipitation at all.

it's calling for dryer conditions above average. the southeastern corner of the country in much of the southwest will be wetter than average that's part of the southwest that does not include california. as for temperatures cooler in the northeast earn quadrant of the nation for march. warmer in the western third and much warmer than average here in california. looks like not much change in the pattern that we've had over the last month. mid to upper 40s, let's see if the locations will not drop to 50 around the gulf. morning clouds burn off. high temperatures ranging from low 60s to upper 60s around the bay. and low 70s inland. here's the accuweather 7-day forecast. notice the slight cooldown by 4 to 6 degrees. still a lovely day for oscar sunday. you can see the oscars right

here's a look at today's headlines where you live at 4:30. for the seventh time this month, there is no cargo moving in or out at the port of oakland. longshore workers are holding a rare daytime union meeting. some importers are using east coast or gulf coast ports and trains to get cargo here and that's at a higher cost. abc 7 news reporter matt keller has more on the latest in a string of shootings in san jose. he tweeted from the sports bar on allem rock avenue where two people were shot last flight. police arrested one man and are searching for another. the wells fargo museum reopened today for the first time since a brazen gold nugget heist. what vick lee found out about the men accused of crashing an suv into the museum. bitter cold weather is gripping more than half the nation. a frozen fountain in alabama, to a burned out building in philadelphia that is completely covered in ice.

planned industrial town. the second is the brown's canyon, a popular whitewater rafting site. and lastly, the internment camp from world war ii hawaii. a lesbian couple is angry this afternoon, after a michigan pediatrician changed her mind and refused to care for their infant. the latest on why the doctor had a sudden complaining of heart. >> like most new parents, krysta and jamie spent a lot of time thinking about who would care for their infant daughter. they landed on dr. roy, a suburban detroit pediatrician who seemed like a perfect fit. >> we liked her personality. she seemed very friendly. >> but when they brought their 6-day-old daughter in for her first checkup, they were shocked to learn from another physician that dr. roy wouldn't treat their infant because the baby's parents were lesbians. >> you can't keep a baby healthy

that has gay parents. >> the detroit free press issued a letter he sent to the couple. after much prayer following your prenatal, i felt that i would not be able to develop the personal patient/doctor relationship that i normally do with my patients. i hope you can accept my apology. >> did the doctor discriminate? >> yes absolutely. >> was there discrimination against the bake by and the baby's parents against the law? >> not in michigan. >> 21 states and the district of columbia do have laws that don't allow doctors to discriminate based on sexual orientation. >> we're completely prepared for this to happen in other places, but not at our 6-day-old wellness appointment. she couldn't comment on the issue because of privacy issues but her life is taking care of babies. karen travers abc news

washington. a texas man has until the end of today to get rid of his fish. all 50,000 of them. ty raises tilapia at his fish farm in houston. the officials say winn doesn't have the proper permit to have the fish. he says he's done nothing wrong and closing down would ruin him. >> i spend so much time away from my family and my kids, and spending time with my wife to work on this. and, you know right now, if i were to lose all of this, i've lost a lot. >> he says he's invested more than $100,000 in the farm. the state says winn can destroy the fish give them to someone with the proper permit or donate them. if not they'll be seized. up next a chilling video of a rescue at sea. the coast guard makes an icy breakthrough to save more than two dozen stranded fishermen. we're looking at a brighter western sky now than we saw hours earlier clouds will

n the u.s. coast guard's polar star is back home after freeing a fishing vessel from antarctic ice. the rescued ship called the antarctic chief ton was stuck 900 miles northeast of the

sound. it was stuck for nearly two weeks. they had to breakthrough 150 miles of thick ice and navigate around massive icebergs just to reach the chief ton. the chief ton was toed in extreme weather. the chief ton will be escorted to nelson new zealand by another fishing vessel. not easy to get through that. it's time for a check on our weather which cleared up pretty nicely today. >> you have nothing to complain about. >> let's take a look at our current temperature readings over the midwest the northeast and even the southeast. it's two degrees right now in detroit, chicago and cleveland. and a frigid 24 down south in atlanta. factor in the windchill, it feels like minus 11 in detroit. minus 13 in cleveland. it's much milder in the western part of the country. tomorrow, look for cold weather

is changing the conversation on transgender rights on social media using twitter. he says as the proud grandpa of a transgender grandchild i hope she can feel safe at school without fear of being bullied. that has been retweeted thousands of times. david louie sat down with the congressman today and joins us from san jose with more. david? >> well cheryl by going public the honda family is hoping to foster more acceptance for people who are different. according do the congressman, his granddaughter melissa knew her againeder identity at a very young age. >> when she was 18 months, she said i'm a girl. and when she was two years old, she said my name is melissa. >> reporter: he's talking about his granddaughter now eight years old, her birth name was brody. almost a year ago he shared with friends and staff that his third grandchild was transgender.
