chicago. all of that's moving to the south and east coast getting into it. look at the advisories and warnings, california, nevada, through texas, louisiana. nobody getting away with this. you're going to have an icy stretch or snow. we're going to run this model out for you. so you can time it out through your day. monday, it goes through dallas and then you get through parts of northern louisiana, southern arkansas and the south side it's rain. right now, clayton sandell is in dallas and he is there for the second round of mess. >> reporter: good morning, ginger. yeah, that sleet and freezing rain have already started to slam here in dallas and across the south, it's been a dangerous morning commute. >> we have the plows. this is crazy. >> reporter: this morning, deadly ice, snow and wind are slamming the south. >> when is it going to warm up? >> reporter: causing driving nightmares. look at this in colorado. an ambulance having to weave its way through cars stuck in the snow. more than a foot causing accidents and snarling travel. several cars sliding off the road.

in oklahoma, slick roads led to not one but two jackknifed tractor-trailers. schools across the midwest closed and hundreds of flights delayed. >> i'm a born texan and i have been in bad weather most of my life. >> reporter: here in dallas, this suv flipped after hitting black ice. parts of major highways and bridges shut down due to icy conditions. this 18-wheeler crashed closing both sides of interstate 5 for -- interstate 35 for several hours. >> i have to take the side streets. >> side streets are terrible. >> reporter: drivers cautiously are navigating colorado roads after 9 inches of snow fell over the weekend. in tennessee, downed trees and power lines, leaving 30,000 still without electricity. it could take days for power to be restored. already 21 deaths there blamed on the weather. and this morning, we're already feeling the ripple effects of this storm at the nation's

airport. already today, 12 on00 cancellations and hundreds more delays. robin. >> yes, and we're going to be heading out to l.a.x. right after this. and we may be a part of that. oh, boy. just all up and down the country like that, ginger. now with the other top stories of the day. good morning, amy, good to see you. >> good to see you as well. we begin with the heightened security at the mall of america. shoppers warned to be on alert after new terror threats from militants calling for attacks on malls in the u.s., like the one they pulled off in africa. abc's pierre thomas has the latest on the threat and he joins us from washington. good morning, pierre. >> reporter: overnight fbi and homeland security officials issued a bulletin to the nation's police about this new threat to malls. the concern, this online call to action might inspire lone wolves to attack. this morning, the nation's largest mall and shopping centers across the u.s. are on alert. this after a new online video posted this weekend threatening terrorist attacks on western malls in the uk, canada and the u.s. minnesota's sprawling mall of

america specifically named in the chilling video. the threat is being taken seriously today because the group behind it, al shabaab, an al al qaeda affiliate, is believed to orchestrate the massacre two years ago. this new threat prompting an immediate response from u.s. law enforcement and security's tighter. all malls in the u.s. on notice. >> the reason i think we're all concerned about this is because it encourages independent actors who could strike with very little notice. >> that's the worry. my sources say you never know who these online videos might motivate. amy. >> all right, pierre thanks for the very latest on that. at least 11 students at wesleyan university in connecticut have been hospitalized for what appears to be an overdose of the drug known as molly. police suspect a bad batch of

the illegal drug and they are trying to trace the source. former new york mayor giuliani is clarifying his recents comments that stirred controversy when he was questioned whether or not president obama loves america. he's now acknowledging his bluntness overshadowed his message. in today's "wall street journal," giuliani writes, i didn't intend to question president obama's motives, or the content of his heart, my intended focus were the effect his words and actions have on the morale of the country." a recent theft caught on camera in new york city. you see a man hooking a chain to that atm and using a stolen car to yank off the door. eventually another man runs in to grab all the cash. police believe the same suspects have stolen more than 70 atms in the last year getting away with hundreds of thousands of dollars. well, nascar's big weekend in daytona got off to a rocky start with driver kurt busch suspended over domestic abuse. but the daytona 500 finally got under way, it was a thriller.

>> there was no original road rage situation between tammy meyers and crystal meyers and anybody. >> telling abc news his client not tammy meyers may have been the target that night. >> the facts seem to point to self-defense in this situation. it seems to explain the facts that we have in front of us more sensibly than any other explanation. >> nowsch's attorney suspect he has a different story than the one the meyers family has been family. police say it all started when he felt threatened by tammy meyers and her daughter near this parking lot. then got into a friends audi and followed the car for several blocks. the audi pulled in front of the driver's car and the drive threatening tammy meyers. when she went home and picked up her son armed with a gun and

went out to find the audi. when the meyers found the car, nowsch believing he saw a weapon opened fire. then retrieving back to their home where nowsch opened fire fatally shooting tammy in the head. her son fired three rounds back at nowsch but did not hit him. tammy's husband bob defending his wife on facebook writing i was married to this woman for 25 years and have never seen her do a thing wrong. her only downfall in her life was the day she left this earth. >> now, to what is being called the "american sniper" trial. chris kyle's wife widow on the red carpet holding her husband's dog tags. we spoke to her about the importance of representing her husband as the prosecution gets set to wrap up its rebuttal in the case. this morning. >> reporter: taya kyle widow of chris kyle taking a break from
