ooooh... i can hear that sizzle. getting louder! and louder! philly cheesesteak and egg sizzling with prime rib and gooey cheese. i better (just) silence this sizzle! the new philly cheesesteak and egg skillet. denny's. welcome to america's diner. live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. at least 28 people were injured in this horrifying commuter train crash in southern california. some are in critical condition. the train slammed into an abandoned vehicle on the tracks this morning prompting several cars to overturn. >> thanks for joining us. the driver of the abandoned vehicle ran away but has been caught and is be, questioned. this happened in oxnard 65 miles northwest of los angeles. very scary for everyone involved. amazingly there are no reports of fatalities. you can see a few of the cars

actually came right off of the tracks when the train slammed into a tractor trailer. this cell phone video shows the craft that happened before turn at 5:45 a.m. it was on facebook. the commuter train has left oxnard transit center and was headed eastbound when it slammed into a tractor trailer. video from kabc showed the chilling moments directly following the crash. all five rail cars tumbled off the tracks and three lie on their sides frightening passengers. emergency crews treated dozens of those injured on tarps scrawled out in the middle of the brocked off street. more than half of the victims were taken to the hospital. >> the injuries ranged from significant head trauma and extremity trauma to mechanic and back injuries. >> driver of the tractor trailer

was not hurt. this is his truck now. it burned up. >> the driver of the vehicle fled the scene. we do not know why. he was found a little while later some miles down the road unharmed and currently is in police custody. >> it is not clear why the truck was on the tracks but it could have been worse. the train conductor saw something in his path and was able to slow down. >> the conductor of the train noticed the car early and flashing lights and was able to establish the emergency braking early. >> the impact still happened at 79 miles per hour. the ntsb is sending a crew to oxnard to put together how this happened. federal railroad administration will also conduct a thorough investigation. >> crews are still working to repair a rail crossings right now in menlo park after a deadly crash claims the life of a woman

last night. new video from sky 7 shows the work under way at the crossing this morning. it will take into the afternoon to get it all repaired. last night a caltrain also hit the woman at 80 miles per hour and she died at the hospital. officials say her car was stuck on the tracks when the train came speeding to her and flew 40' across the intersection and 400 people on the train were not injured. another fatal action involved caltrain happened with an out of service train hitting and killing a man on the tracks in san francisco inside a tunnel near the 22nd street station. >> a person is dead after a five in a house in sunnyvale. we looked at the aftermath near the situation that broke out at 5:00 a.m. this morning and when firefighters found the bodies inside. the roof was caved in. firefighters say exterior walls are clearly unstable and that makes it dicey for them to go in

to investigate. the victim has not been identified but neighbors say an early -- elderly man lived in the home. >> officers are arresting illegal game bowling in the south bay. matt was invited for the crackdown. >> after 10:30, officers raided the store here on capitol expressway in east san jose part of a sting on illegal gambling operations in san jose. this is video of san jose police officers going inside the store on capitol expressway. officers would not confirm what the raid was about. law enforcement source told me this location was under the suspicion of an illegal gambling operation with machines expected to be about six mimes away police raided a home on reagan street.

>> there were people that have warrants on drugs and the house would be shut down. that is all they said. it is our neighborhood and we should take ownership of it and take care of it. >> we watched as 10 or 15 were led out in handcuff interests a police van. law enforcement source said gambling machines were found inside. it has taken a long-term to process the scene with the evidence and people arrested. no one has been brought out in handcuffs, it is early in this investigation. more information should be released after this whole scene is processed by the investigators. thanks today is the six month anniversary of the devastating earthquake that rocked the napa valley while people were sleeping at 3:4 in the morning. a seriously injured teen is finally doing well but the recovery in napa has a ways to go. amy hollyfield is joining us in

napa. >> napa is not pack -- back to normal. the safeway is closed six months after the earthquake. you see examples like this throughout downtown. recovery days a while. but not for one team injured in the earthquake. his recovery and at a very quick pace. >> the 14-year-old nick is not supposed to be doing this. but nick likes to defy expectations. >> according to the doctors he scared me and said six or seven months before i would caucus and i thought that is too long that is too long. >> six months ago today, nick was in a hospital bed with a broken pelvis. bricks from the fireplace fell on him bug the napa earthquake and three was asleep on the floor in the living room because he was having a sleepover with the friend. >> an experience i would not want anyone to have, not even to anyone. horrible expense.

>> he spent the next few months in a wheelchair which he did not like. now he is not only walking but he is able to run. >> there are days i am discouraged but i am alive. >> he came back-to-school in december the administration said that was an inspiration for everyone. to have someone like nick that you know got injured the way he did there was fear would he make it? could he walk? could he come back do school? he is a rallying point for the students. also he brings a sense of calmness to the kids. >> knick still has a ways to go. he will have surgery over spring break to have three bolts removed and doctors do not know whether he will be able to walk or jump. he is not afraid and he isn't paying much attention to the six month mark, either. >> i heard someone say do not count the days make the days count and since that i have not counted the days, i wake up and saying i am alive, it is great.
