industrial accident. has matt crews entered the business and have declared it safe the business is open once again. >> pg&e stopped a gas leak this afternoon sky 7 hd was over the scene earlier. a construction crew ruptured that half inch line nobody was injured. a woman was hospitalized after she was hit by a light pole near fillmore street and golden gate avenue. it happened just after noon, when a car was in a parking lot and crashed into the pole knocking over. she is expected to survive. this happened in san francisco. >> three arrests in a kidnap and rain ordeal a young woman endured for two months. you is someone has come forwards to contradict the alleged victims story.

layer rah has the story. >> there is where this alleged crime occurred. a woman held captive behind these gates for two months. tonight we heard from someone who lives here, who told us the woman was here, but by choice. >> what this woman has gone through was terrifying. >> it was a horrendous crime a 22-year-old woman kidnapped and repeatedly lyly raped inside this compound. >> she was brutalized and held for what we now know is since the holidays. this is two months of captivity where she was subjected to unspeakable sexual act the. >> the woman says she escaped from the compound last week. police raided the property and took seven people in for questioning. three were actually arrested yesterday afternoon. they include the man police say is the mastermind and rapist,

jose jose jaime and junior. >> one of the suspect ss has driven her in the past three weeks, to and from nail salons and getting her hair done. >> dee lives at the compound, she says she's avina's girlfriend. she says the alleged kidnap and rape victim was not a victim at all. >> she moved in here before christmas, all of her clothes were here. she's been living here. we became friends and she wanted me to teach her english. it was posted a month before the woman claims she was kidnapped. this woman also did not want her face shown. she is a neighbor. >> it's kind of scary, you know. you don't want something like

that to happen in your neighborhood. especially where you live. >> all three defendants are being held at the sonoma county jail. their arraignment is set for friday afternoon. in santa rosa laura anthony abc 7 news. moving on the close encounter with a big cat. this is a photo of a mountain lion taken by jeanette anderson through the glass door of a home. there have been two sightings in woodside, the latest just this morning residents are trying to co exist with some rather intem dating wildlife. >> they occasionally encounter mountain lions late at night or overnight. today's encounter was a little different different. >> wildlife experts say half of california is natural habitat for mountain lions. they're coming out of hiding in

woodside. >> i immediately locked the door and just thought oh, my god what do i do? and he wasn't going away he was just pacing back and forth. >> she did have the presence of mind to take some photos and call the sheriff's office. deputies arrived six minutes later to see the hind section and tail of the lion walking back into the woods. >> this is their natural habitat. when you live in an area where these animals live. you're going across every now and then, which is not a problem, as long as you do so safely. >> the sheriff's office received another report of a mountain lion sighting four days ago. this might be one of those cubs seeking its own territory. >> definitely only one and it did look like a baby, you could tell by its face. it was beautiful, really beautiful. >> what are you going to do now? >> be very careful. very careful. >> woodside attracts plenty of bikers and joggers because of

the country setting. >> i carry a whistle. >> they said you need to carry a whistle or some sort of loud thing to distract them. they're here everywhere. >> long time woodside residents say they've seen them out late at night. this encounter happened at 8:00 a.m. some resident thes are being extra cautious. >> sticking to my car for a couple days. that's the most we can do. >> uc santa cruz researchers say mountain lion attacks on humans are rare. david louie, abc 7 news. >> the middle school students are back home from the hospital. a day after they got sick from swallowing prescription pills. firefighters were called to the school about 11:15 yesterday when the students became sick it they're not saying what kind of pills kids ingested or how the students got them. the incident is still under investigation. we're learning more tonight about the tragic death of a newborn baby boy north of sacramento. the coroner confirmed today 20

day old justice reese drowned or died of hypothermia. searchers found his body yesterday in a remote area. the sheriff told our sacramento affiliate, the boy's mother was the last person seen with him. investigators do consider her a person of interest at this time. rallies were held all over california today to urge governor brown to extend overtime pay for home care workers. one of those rallies was in oakland. the workers are upset that the judge blocked a law that would have given them overtime and travel time pay this year. brenda jackson is one of those affected. she cares for a 64-year-old woman who can barely walk on her home. >> i do laundry, go get her medicines. take her to and from the doctor's office. take her grocery shopping. none of its been paid. >> the judge's order has a limited effect. governor brown can act on his own, he's not yet chosen to do

the san francisco police chief is defending the actions of an officer accused of using excessive force. raymond chew is trying to wake up bernard warren and remove him

from a muni bus. the whole thing escalates quickly. he can be seen pepper spraying warren and hitting him with his baton. chiao says warren threatened him. the officer was simply doing as he was trained. warren has been charged with resisting arrest and threatening an officer. the video was released by the public defender's office, which is representing warren. according to the most recent statistics, at least half the people shot and killed by police every year in the united states have mental health problems, that's according to a 2013 report by the treatment advocacy center and national sheriff's association. bay area law enforcement are trying to do something about that. abc 7 news reporter vick lee joins us from redwood city tonight to explain. >> these crisis intervention training programs are important for law enforcement officers. i just attended one in belmont. and, you know, in almost every county in the bay area most of the subjects of officer involved shootings are mentally

challenged. in san mateo county, for instance, in the last decade, that number is about 75%. >> oh, my goodness, do you think he's dead. >> he's a sheriff's deputy playing a vietnam vet sleeping on a park bench. they wake the man, then this. >> get back, get back. back back. >> the veteran holds up a tv remote thinking it's a gun, and the enemy is behind the bushes. the officers have to neutralize the situation using what they've learned here. >> i still see someone out there. >> sadly many of these real life confrontations end up with force, when they could be resolved peacefully by calming the man. >> allow for some dialogue, when someone's talking, they're not

fighting that's what we want to train the officers to do. >> for the past week 35 sheriff's deputies and peninsula police officers have been enrolled in this crisis training program. the roll playing and classes were only a part of the program. they've also heard from families of those with mental illness. brings bain police sergeant says the dialogue was invaluable. >> having the families here was really important. and the things that they want from law enforcement agencies responding to the scene and there are difficulties in dealing with the same situation. >> that kind of heightened my awareness, how people are -- how they act. >> at the end of the day a graduation ceremony for these officers and deputies. now armed with more tools that may enable them to diffuse potentially violent situations without lethal force. >> i've been a police officer for over 27 years. i can tell you it was a real eye opener. >> vick lee abc 7 news.

in santa rosa, police have arrested two people for trying to fish money out of a bank deposit box. here's what happened. the suspicious looking man was at the exchange bank around 6:00 a.m. yesterday. he had a homemade device that was sticky so it could be dropped in to retrieve items from inside the night deposit box. a woman was on the lookout nearby with a two-way radio. the two may be connected to 15 similar burglaries in santa rosa in the last four months. a gamble on a cancer drug is being paid off. shares of the company jumped nearly 17% today on rumors the company could be sold in a deal worth $18 million. the company gambled on the drug, buying it for about $6.6 million in 2006. it's now considered to be a success in treating leukemia and it could soon be available for lymphoma as well. it's expected to have about $4

breezy and cooler tomorrow on your way for your friday. scattered showers on the docket for saturday. even weekend snow moving into the sierras. cooler temperature is comfortable. 66 in oakland, it's 63 in freemont antioch the warm spot at this hour coming in with a temperature of 72 degrees. satellite and radar will show you, we're tracking an area of low pressure diving south out of british columbia. what it will do tomorrow. and then on saturday we'll bring some rain. the winds will pick up too as well. the system gets closer. especially along the coast. winds gusting over 30 miles per hour at half moon bay. even around the bay by friday afternoon, the winds anywhere from 20 to 25 miles per hour. fast forward the clock to friday evening, widely isolated showers, the coverage really picks up saturday morning by 7:00 in the morning, you do see a little bit of wet weather

light in nature. saturday afternoon between noon and 5:00 the showers move in from the north to south. it's all out of here by saturday evening. it's quick moving system, not going to bring us a ton of rainfall. take a look at rain totals through saturday evening. barely making to a tenth of an inch in san francisco. jackpots we'll call it anywhere from a quarter to half inch of rain by saturday evening. talking about snow in the sierras, 4 to 8 inches possible. even a foot likely at higher peaks. that also means travel delays as the winter weather advisory goes into effect tomorrow afternoon. we'll see a mixture of storms and clouds out there. 49 dropping in san jose. highs friday with breezy winds out of the north. peaks of sunshine. it's going to be a cooler day. 64 in napa get up to 61 in san francisco and palo alto. your high tomorrow a cooler 64 degrees. your accuweather 7-day forecast

>> big cheers in washington as the fcc voted today in favor of what's called net neutrality. the decision is a victory for small entrepreneurs by making sure they treat all equal content equally. it's a defeat for verizon comcast and at&t. at 6:00, abc 7 news reporter jonathan bloom takes a broader look at the impact of today's decision on consumers and silicon valley. and then there's this. fighting bullies with the power of pink. that was the message at lincoln high school in san francisco today. abc 7 news was there for the annual pink tsunami day. classrooms were decked out with balloons, table cloths streamers. the goal of the day is to promote acceptance and inclusiveness for everyone. >> we want our students to be accepted and we want our students to accept everybody else. and we want everybody to be comfortable with everybody. >> pink tsunami day started at a

school in canada. happening right now in oakland, the bart board of directors is meeting to discuss possible changes to its new fleet after riders with disabilities expressed some concern. the fleet of the future is coming in 2017. some of the details are still being hashed out. one of the biggest issues discovered in the survey last year came from wheelchair users and blind riders who have concerns about grip polls mounted in areas that could block their path. the board will consider approving changes, including moving those polls to widen their path. >> in the meantime bart riders may notice some pretty cool new artwork at the station. the artwork has a retro feel to it as you can see. he was influenced by the style of advertising introduced in the 50s he wanted to make posters that looked like something bart would have had back then.

chavez says he rode bart from end to end for some inspiration he said public transportation is magical. you can soon use your scooters also time at the skatepark. theyen watted to respond to an increasing number of children using those scooters so as of march 15th they'll be allowed at all hours in the park. since 2012 scooters have been allowed only at specific times. park rangers would have do kick out about 50 riders a day and that would only leave a handful of skaters. the world's first female champion in a sport dominated by men. they have a comfortable lead after two heets today in the bobsled worlds championships. they have two more heats on saturday. garrett is from hayworth. her team has a shot at becoming the first u.s. women's team to win a world title. how cool is that. congratulations, all right. what's old is new again in sang jose. >> coming up, the celebration of
