francisco's mission district evacuated on friday night. >> the bomb squad is investigating a suspicious package with wires stibbing out of it. >> i'm dan ashley. >> i'm katie in for ama daetz. police roped off several sections. >> alan wang is there live with the latest. alan? >> dan and katie, they just opened up a street behind me. it appears the danger is over. earlier tonight around 8:00 it started out when someone found a suspicious package with wires hanging out of it. they brought in a bomb squad robot and evacuated the building closest to the package c. people came out with their pets and cages and no where else to go. police shutdown a two-block area between mission and valencia from 22nd to 24th street. a lot of people walked out of their homes unaware of what was happening until police success scoterred them out of the evacuation zone.

this was a huge two-hour inconvenience for a lot of people. reporting live in the mission district of san francisco abc7 news. >> it sure was. thanks very much. to weather now and a blustery night across the bay area. here is a live look from our roof camera. you can see how the wind has the flags blowing pretty hard. in sausalito the wind shook some tree branches and flags whipped around in the strong breeze. >> and a tree uprooted near the em back dare -- embarcaderro. drew is here now and it is still windy. >> the winds will be with us overnight tonight. we had some pretty incredible wind gusts. peak wind gusts across the region. altamont at 50 miles an hour. sfo airport 44 and even the golden gate bridge 40 miles per hour.

look at the wind forecast and into the future we go. the winds finally calm down. tomorrow less than five to 10 miles an hour. when the winds move out the showers move in. we'll look at the wet weather and the timing and how much you can expect where you live. >> drew thanks. car burglary goes high-tech in sausalito with devastating consequences. police say the man in this picture used an electronic device to unlock a vehicle and steal an expensive bicycle. it wasn't just a bike he took. it was the woman's livelihood. tiffany wilson is live in sausalito to explain. tiffany? >> dan, she was a professional athlete -- rather she is a professional athlete so the bike is important to her. police believe began -- it began with a key less fab like the one i have and like you have at home. she worries if it happened to her it can happen to anyone. >> you can see the suspect

casing this black on you de and then watch -- this black audi. like magic the doors unlike and he is able to walk away with a suitcase and a $15,000 custom bike. the owner was home the entire time. >> the way he went into the car and he got the bike out and just knew exactly what he was doing. >> that bike wasn't an expensive hobby. she is a professional try athlete. >> it is a violation of my livelihood. >> a neighbor saw the thief but assumed it was his car because the doors unlocked. >> it is believed he used an electronic device orie moat to open -- or remote to open the doors electronically. >> although this is the first high-tech car theft in sausalito, michael finney has been reporting on keyless hackers since 2013. the advice from police hasn't changed. >> if there is value, do not

leave it in your car. take it with her. >> she is grateful her sponsor can provide a new bike, but not everyone is as lucky. >> i want to get my bike back. that is very important to me. but more than anything i want to catch this guy. >> if you recognize this high-tech thief, call police. tiffany wilson, abc7 news. a gymnastics school faces a lawsuit filed by the family of a girl who crashed through a window while jumping on a trampoline. she needed a hundred stitches to close several cuts last fall. the contra costa times reports graham's family accused four star gymnastic center of the negligence. an identical mishap took place in 2007. new details on a murder investigation in sonoma county. sheriff deputies found the victim's stolen car. tonight's discovery comes after an 84-year-old woman was found dead in her home.

detectives described the interior as being in disarray. they haven't revealed how the victim was killed except to say she was slumped over in her chair. she grew up in the farm house and lived there for decades. shocked neighbors say the family rented out its land and farm buildings. >> i feel like it is somebody they knew. they had a business where people were coming up and storing stuff. >> this will hit home hard. >> she lived in the home with her brother. he was out of town when this crime took place. detectives will not say where they found the car. >> people are outraged that a sexually violent predator now lives in their neighborhood. he moved to this home on walnut boulevard last week. he was con vehicled it in a series of sexual uh -- convicted in a series of sexual assaults. he was conditionally released in 2013 and placed at a bay p oi nt cottage. a court ordered him to move

because he was too close to an elementary school. now he is .80 of a mile from the school which meets requirements. >> we will be looking to see if we can have him moved. >> i don't believe he creates a threat any longer. please allow him to peacefully live out his days. >> he is required to wear a gps ankle bracelet. a $6,000 reward is being offered in the case of two dogs and a mother and her puppy tossed from a moving vehicle. investigators say someone put both dogs in a sandbag last friday and then dumped them at the end of a road in watsonville. the mother survived but her puppy died. the pincher mix is being cared for by a santa cruz county animal rescue group. google unveiled plans to transform headquarters in mountain view. you can see google's vision in this video posted on youtube. it includes putting eco-friendly work spaces in

when the crashes began. wayne freedman has the story you will only see here on abc7 news. >> you are looking at number 29. john wilson describes it as the ruined front end of his recreational vehicle and now a really bad day on the golden gate bridge. >> totally surprised. >> surprised not by the number, but the barrier he hit going through the poll plaza. he is the 29th driver to report such a collision in 46 days since january 12th. during the same period last year the district reported only five impacts. >> the theory is we are not having anymore collisions than we had before. it is just that the impact to the vehicle is more severe. >> she notes that the new barriers comply with new federal regulations and the old ones do not. they are no wider, but they are tougher on cars and tougher to repair. the district spent $187 on parks and labor. money it plans to get back

some locations could pick up a foot of fresh powder over the next 12 hours. live doppler 7hd will show us we are tracking light scattered sprepg kills pushing -- sprinkles pushing into the south bay. the focus will be in the south bay. we are showing you downtown san francisco and the winds are calming down a bit and the camera is not shaking as much as it was this afternoon. the forecast does call for the showers and focusing in the south bay. there is a chance of thunder tomorrow. it won't be widespread. just isolated clouds and then the second half of the weekend looking nice. right now the temperature wise 47 in napa and 47 in danville and 51 fremont and san jose 5 52 and currently 52 in downtown san francisco. satellite and radar we will show you the story. here comes the storm diving out of oregon. it is a cold storm meaning it is unstable. the problem is it is coming over land and not the ocean so it has little moisture to work with. and that's why we are not tracking a soaking rain event unfortunately.

we will show you tomorrow morning 4:00 showers working around san jose and the showers for the first half of saturday confined to the south bay where they could see a chance of thunder. they will try and push north throughout saturday afternoon but this is a quick system and by saturday evening it is out of here. in terms of rainfall how much we expect look at the north bay. a lot of locations may not see any measurable precipitation out of this system. it is in the south bay where we see some soaking showers. i think downpours develop and we could see a quarter to as much as half an inch of rain. the winter weather advisory in effect until tomorrow. snow at 5500 feet and the highest peak is as much as a foot of new snow 39 napa and we will see showers in the south bay and working in overnight. 46 palo alto and then for your saturday, first half is wet.
