a young life lost in an instant. san jose police blame alcohol and speeding. hello, i'm katie marzullo. we begin with developing news. a car crash left a teenager dead, and tonight san jose police are searching for two drivers. cornell bernard is live at the crash screen. cornell, neighbors say that's a dangerous spot? >> reporter: that's what we are hearing from neighbors who feared an accident would happen here. this morning's crash happen at this very spot. names of the victims have not yet been released. two drivers are still at large. >> sounded like someone crashed into the wall of rite aid.

>> james brown heard the terrible crash at 3:00 a.m. after police say a speeding car slammed into a light pole ejects three teenage passengers. one hit the window of this rite aid and died. >> so sad when you hear a kid that age and getting killed. >> police say two cars were speeding possibly racing on west hillsdale avenue but when they approached meridian, driver lost control, slamming into the light pole. both drivers left the scene before police arrived. alcohol was factor in the crash. >> it's bad enough but you have the accident but then running away from it. it's just even worse. >> driving crazy. accelerate speed using the streets. >> neighbors say street racing is something say say too often here she won't let her kids near the street alone. >> there's accidents right in front of my house and there's a lot of drunk driving and it

happens very often. >> reporter: two passengers remain in the hospital with serious injuries. the search continues for the two drivers. in san jose, abc7 news. >> new details of pursuit involving a sonoma county sheriff's deputy ended with the suspect dying in a crash. a deputy parted a car going more than 100 miles-per-hour on 101 in winsor. the depty tried to pull over the driver but the driver refused to stop. the chase continued thousand santa rosa when deputy says the suspect driver lost control and crashed into a field. two passengers were injured. the chp is investigating a deadly crash in oakland. it happened early this morning on interstate 80 at the macarthur maze. investigators say other speeding silver volvo crashed into a construction truck in an area where contractors were working on rail repairs. the driver who died is 25-year-old gregory davis, jr.

of oakland. no construction workers were hurt. developing news. out of northern california. the mother of the newborn baby boy who was found dead has been arrested. 23-year-old samantha green was found disoriented in the area. investigators found the body of her 20 day old son the next day under heavy brush. the coroner says the infant appears to have drowned or died of hypothermia. family members believe green was abducted but investigators found no evidence of a kidnapping. if you're in an francisco right now it's hard to believe but some areas did see rain today. spotty shower rolled contracts area. there are reports of thunder lightning and hail. tracy e-mail us this photo of hail in her backyard in

danville. doug sent us this picture saying thunder and hail hit santa rosa this afternoon. reality get the latest from abc7 news meteorologist drew tuma and live doppler 7hd. >> these storms are really centered around the south bay and that's where we seeing the most activity. live doppler 7hd will show you much of the region is dry, but around san jose, that's where we are seeing some wet weather. we'll press in locally at street level. one downpour in fremont with hail possible-lightning strikes and moving north this cell in oakland, alameda and these are slow-moving cells so locally heavy downpours could cause flooding. what to expect from now until 9:00? any of these storms could have lightning, small hail, localized flooding and then after 9:00 the sure showers diminish. tahoe getting much needed snow. a winter weather advise in

cancellations at the airports in san francisco and san jose. for some passengers the weather played a role in a nine-hour nightmare. here's the story of passengers trapped inside a plane. >> won't ever do that again. >> american airlines flight 382 was supposed to be a simple one-hour trip from dallas to oklahoma city. instead it turned into a journey of frustration, anger and false hope. >> we're happy one second because we thought we were leaving, and then the next second we were deflated because we turn back to the gate. >> this bad dream thanks to bad weather and bad timing. passengers documenting the frustration with their cell phone cameras. >> at one point they decided to give us crackers and chips and then depleted the entire supply. the next six hours there was nothing. >> at one point the scene looked like this. passengers raiding the liquor fridge. >> kind of a mix of anger. >> american airlines says, we

apologize for the frustrating experience, yesterday was a challenging day at dfw due to extreme weather impacting north texas. the safety of our passengers and employees is always our top priority. the airline says it did not break the law because passengers were never held on the actual tarmac for longer than the three-hour limit set by the passengers bill of rights. >> i think they're being a little too clever by half. america is trying to defend the indefensible. >> inside the airport more frustration. hundreds of flights cancelled. some passengers spent hours on planes that never left then had to pend more hours standing in line. >> now where do we go? , use flight 382 did evegetablely take off and land safely, but for some people the experience was not worth repeating. >> i'm not flying american again. >> abc news new york. a fire at a warehouse in oakland caused half a million dollars in damage. around 7:00 this morning flames gutted the warehouse just north

of the coliseum. firefighters say it was a difficult battle in part because there was large amount of wood inside. the flames sent up a thick plume of white smoke. you can see it here from our emeryville camera. a luxury apartment building in san jose is trying to track down a group of mail thieves. look at them in action. staff at villa torino apartments provided us if the video saying they want the thieves captured but police won't investigate nor file a report. postal inspector is working on the case. you can see the thieves prying open the mail boxes. the come mix says mail from four or five books was stolen. this weekend children not allowed to play in part of a popular bay area park. it's off limits. well let you know why it could impose a danger to kids. >> a great day for the bay area. a wonderful day for fans.

francisco's delores park will be offlimits to kids for a week. park officials closed off the section yesterday after finding shards of glass in the sand. they say someone was drinking there late thursday night and smashed beer bottles along the retaining wall. recreation and park department crews removed the shard-filled sand yesterday. now as many as 20 tons of sand must be replaced. no word on the cost of the cleanup. excitement in san jose today as the earthquakes take to the soccer field for the first time at the stadium. the team tested out the new privately funded $100 million home in an exhibition game against the l.a. galaxy. the european style horseshoe stadium seats 18,000 people, has a canopy roof and the steepest seating in the league's optimize viewing. >> beautiful. so excited. >> we had seats pretty high up but the view is great and it feels like you're on the field. >> it's a great day for the bay

a colorful music-filled chinese lunar new year sell nation redwood city today. the event featured a lion dance, conditioning few and performances by acrobats and lots of arts and crafts for the kids. designers at calvin klein say they couldn't be more thrilled. los angeles county sheriff's deputies believe they recovered the $150,000 gown lupita nyong'o wore to present at the academy awards last sunday. the dress was storm from her room at the london hotel in west hollywood late wednesday. tmz.com reports a person claiming to have taken the gown posted the location on a web site under a bathroom sink in the famed hotel, and that's where authorities found it but with a few pearls missing. >> background to the unusual weather. first it started to rain and then came the hail. some fans at the quakes new

this is not snow. this is hail falling in san jose and it's coming down where you can actually shovel the stuff. as the showers continue hail certainly will be an issue with any of the downpours. the camera showing you the rain clouds. arrest total monterey, .43 inches. gilroy pot 4. fremont, just shy of a quarter inch of rain. watsonville, less than a quarter inch. oakland, seeing .02 inches of rain. the next couple of hours watch as the showers push off the coast. the wet weather is out of here. the clouds will depart and that will set the stage for a fantastic sunday. in terms of snowfall, winter weather advisory until 8:00 tonight. one to two inches of additional snow possible at lake level and additional two to four inches possible above 7,000 feet, and travel delays likely and chain requirements are in effect. temperaturewise right now, we're at 60 in oakland. san jose, they had the rain all
