hese pictures of hail in the east bay. and in the south bay, fans at the san jose quakes new stadium covered their heads and then ran for cover. drew tuma is tracking the storms withlive doppler 7hd. >> where you are seeing the downhours you're seeing hail, lightning, and hearing thunderstorm. live doppler 7hd will show you not everybody is seeing wet weather, but where it is the rain is coming down in buckets. we'll zoom into street level. a stronger cell just moved across the bayhearts and now on to the peninsula. even a lightning strike just south of san francisco. time this line out for you, the wet weather will be moving into san bruno in four minutes millbrae, 14 minutes, and heads up on that. light around around mountain view, palo alto, and sunnyvale. what to expect now until 9:00 the scattered downpours that could contain lightning, small hail and flooding and then the showers diminish.

this isn't the only chance of wet weather over the next couple of days. >> san jose has experienced some of the most dramatic weather today, including some snow. tiffani wilson is live. >> reporter: katy, it's not quiteoff to break out the sleds or skis but enough for a good old fashioned snowball. just be glad you're in the studio because i have pretty good aim. the residents here were taken by surprise when they looked out their windows and saw the mix of snow and hail covering the nearby hills and also their own homes and cars. this car completely covered in snow. looks like it belongs in the midwest, not here in san jose. we spoke to one couple that has lived here for 25 years. they say this is the first time in 20 years that they've had weather like this. >> this is big.

to see snow here. >> reporter: and back out here live. you can see a lot of the snow still left here on the grass and then the good thing, if you follow me down here you can see a lot of the runoff water certainly very needed in these drought conditions. so, the folks we talked to, they're thrilled to see the snow. they just say they hope it sticks around long enough for the grandkids to come over and play. live in south san jose, abc7 news. >> very fun. thank you. and you got drew and i shaking in our bootize in san francisco windy weather closed part of the great highway. you can see sand covering the southbound lanes between slope boulevard and skyline. that stretch is expected to stay closed through the weekend. new at 6:00, an antiisis rally outside the federal building in san jose

demonstrators are honoring or of the docks christians who were recently kill. sergio quintana has more. >> this is the latest effort by the syrian christian community in the bay area and their allies to raise awareness of the attacks on their communes in the middle east by isis militants. dozens turned out for the demonstration here at the federal building in san francisco. several men dressed in orange jump suits and solidarity with the 21 coptic christians who were beheaded by libya this month. this week more than 200 syrian christians in northern syria were kidnapped by isis militants and are feared to be held as slaves or hostages. this group is showing their support for their communities in the danger zone. some have family there. >> what we want to convey is you have people in the u.s. these people most of them come from you, from the middle east, and we are doing all our best to support you. >> reporter: this group is calling on the united states

government to do something to help. they want the u.s. military to consider arming assyrian christians in syria and their kurdish allies in iraq and they're hoping the u.s. will pressure countries like turkey to allow refugees fleeing isis to seek safety there. now, last night an assyrian church in san jose held a prayer vigil for those who were kidnapped by isis militants this week. they're planning a larger event later the next month. reporting live in san francisco. abc7 news. >> developing news in san jose. the search is on for two drivers after a high-speed crash killed a teenager and injured another. pollution say two cars may have been racing this morning. cornell bernard is live in san jose with the details. >> reporter: friends of the victim just arriving at the scene of the crash lighting candles, saying prayers. they'll say the young man who died here was known as vladimir.

police still need to speak with two drivers who took off after this terrible crash. >> late at night we'll hear cars racing motorcycles racing. >> reporter: she lives on hillsdale avenue feet from where the terrible crash happened. two cars may have been street racing. >> sounded like someone crash into the wall of rite aid. >> james brown heard the crash around 3:00 a.m. after police say a speeding car slammed into a light pole ejecting three teenaged passengers. one of them struck the window of this rite aid and died. >> so sad when you hear of kids that age and getting killed, basically. >> reporter: police say alcohol played a part in the crash as two cars were speeding, possibly racing on when they approached meridian. one driver lost control, slamming into the light pole. both drivers left the scene before police arrived.

>> running away is like, oh my god. >> all awaken bed the noise not knowing where the cars will hit and the sense of terror. >> neighbors say street racing is something they say too onhere. she won't let her kids near the street alone. >> there's accidents right in front of my house, and there's a lot of drunk driving. >> two passengers remain in the hospital with serious injuries. the search continues for the two drivers. in san jose, cornell bernard, abc7 news. >> the mother of the newborn baby boy found dead near the sacramento river in knight's landing has been arrested in connect witch his defendant. 23 year samantha green was found disoriented in the area on february 17th. investigators founds the boy of her 20-day-old son the next day in heavy brush. the coroner says the infant appears to have drowned or died of hypothermia. family members believe greene was abducted but investigators found in evidence of a

kidnapping. >> a firefighter was injured in a two-alarm fire in san jose. fire broke out on the second story unit just before noon. investigators say a cooking fire got out of control. two people escaped with their dogs. fire crews were able to knock down the flames within half hour and stop them from spread put one firefighter had a showed injury. >> a dangerous rescue and abc7 news was there. a warning for pet owners after firefighters had to pull a man and his dog off a cliff. snow leaving people stranded. how the bad weather across the country is

>> warn fog pet owns after a dangerous rescue this afternoon. we were there when san francisco firefighters pulled the man and his dog from a cliff face. frank stark says he was walking his dog when the dog fell awful the cliff and he immediately ran over to the edge. >> when she went over, i came to stand at the edge, and the ground just sunk in underneath me and i fell in right behind her. >> scary. but starks and his dog are okay. firefighters say if your dog goes over a cliff never try to rescue it yourself, call 9-1-1

immediately. thousands of flights across the nation cancelled today because of an ice storm at dallas-fort worth international airport. one of the nation's biggest airline hubs. sfo had 16 flight cancellations this morning. to and from dallas-fort worth there has been one cancellation as san jose airport this evening and one flight delay out of oakland international. the southwest is expecting recordbreaking snowfall overnight. just a few hours amtrak will close the san francisco ferry building bus stop for good. the ticket office and bus stop will be relocated tomorrow morning. the transbay temporary terminal will open in the morning about a half mile south the ferry building location and amtrak will share the space with greyhound. coming up next at 6:00 things are finally looking up for sierra ski resorts, look at the fresh snow. we'll tell you how much has come

area. meteorologist drew tuma receiving some pictures of his own. whacky weather out there. >> first we're getting pictures of hail and now that the sun is setting, gorgeous sunset pictures. live doppler 7hd showing you a rather active picture so we'll press in a little closer. just had a cluster of showers work through sunnyvale, but moving north want to show you a heavier downpour working through south san francisco at this hour , even bringing lightning. so i want to zoom in just even closer. look at this. when you see really dark red, that's heavy downpours and an indication that hail is likely coming out of the cell right now. this is pressing to the south and west right now. so i want to time this out for you, show you where the cell is headed. the heart in nine minutes reaching south san francisco and will move into pacifica in 35 minutes or so.

so the storm is packing lightning and small hail. so take note of that. speaking of hail, weather where you live. this picture southeast of san jose. he hail blanketing the region like it was snow. right now this hail is causing issues along the peninsula at this hour. so sierra snow to talk about as well. it's a cold storm a winter weather advisory in effect until 8:00 saturday, tonight one to two inches inches of snow at lake level, two inches at 7,000 feet. right now it's a mixed bag temperaturewise. 52 in mountain view, 51, san jose, 61, san carlos, 58, oakland, the same in concord at this hour. satellite and radar shows you here's the system spinning right over us right now, bringing thus showers and heavy downpours and lightning. now we're tracking storm number two, generating some energy in the gulf of alaska and this will
