live from the kgo-tv broadcast center this is abc7 news. horrific crash scene in santa cruz county. four young people between the age of 16 and 22 dead after a head-on collision. >> good morning i am eric thomas. i am kristen sze. c.h.p. say drinking and reckless driving were factors in the terrifying tragedy. the mercedes with the young people crashed into ford pickup on freedom boulevard. our reporter is at the c.h.p. office with the very latest. matt? >> yes, the accident took place a mile away from the c.h.p.

office here near the high school but it does not appear that any students from that school were involved in the crash. the crash took the lives of several young people. traffic accidents do not get much worse hand this. seven young people, ages 16 to 22 were riding in a mercedes after 8:00 last night on freedom boulevard in santa cruz county when the driver swerved into oncoming traffic hitting a ford pickup truck head on. three people from the mercedes died at scene. another died at at the hospital. the three other passengers were taken to hospitals with life threatening injuries. alcohol appears to be a factor. we had a couple of witnesses reporting reckless driving, things like excessive speed and passing over the double yellow lines and a witness said there were females out of the windows dancing and out of the moon roof dancing prior to the collision. >> driver of the pick medium, 56 years old from aptos was taken

to the medical center but he is expected to recover from the major injuries. four people in the mercedes who died were identified at a 22-year-old man from watsonville, an 18-year-old man also from watsonville, a 19-year-old woman from southern california and a 15-year-old girl whose information is not released until the family is notified. investigators say anyone in the mercedes was wearing a seatbelt. >> the right front passenger looks like they were sitting on each other's laps and i don't know what the organization was in the back seat but likely that was the case as well, in the back seat. >> c.h.p. says they hope to talk to some of the surviving victims as soon as possible and that includes the driver of the pickup as they try to put together investigation. reporting live in aptos for abc7. new details this morning on the shooting deaths of two men in a quiet livermore neighborhood. police held a news conference a short while ago to discuss what led up to the violence.

[ inaudible ] >> we apologize for the lack of audio we will check in with amy coming up in a short period. >> we will move to another story one of three suspects in the murder an elderly woman is waiting to be extradicted back to the bay area. the second man is in custody. a third is dead following the shoot out with police. they are accused of killing 84-year-old olga ary dinelli who was found dead in the chair need her home on thursday. police do not know why she was targeted. the sheriff deputies in riverside spotted two of the suspects in a car on saturday. they we would not pull over. they led deputies on a high speed chase across the border into arizona. police put out strips and the car crashed. 27-year-old victor silva great marin county surrendered. the other suspect was slot and killed after pulling a gun on

deputies. a third suspect 27-year-old john bruno martinez was arrested in richmond on saturday. he is expected in court tomorrow. >> happening now students are trying to get through a stuff day at oakland tech a promising student and football player was shot to death over the week and this morning we are hearing great friends and family about his loss. >> our reporter is in the newsroom with more. >> both students and staff are taking this loss very hard and are left with a lot of questions. they called 14-year-old davon ellis brit a great athlete who was very well liked. >> just shocked. >> davon shares the same first name as his friend, 14-year-old davon ellis killed over the weekend. ellis was shot walking in oakland's fruitvale neighborhood on saturday night where yesterday loved ones met for a memorial.

harrison played football with ellis. they were both friendmen at oakland technical high school. >> it is tragic. >> it upsets me. >> she wanted to share what she knew of her "leader." >> three was always smiling. when i say three was all-star player not just on that field, he was all-star player going somewhere in life. three was going to make it. >> she said the parents worked lard to keep him and his little sister on the right track and in good schools. police do not know a motive for the shooting and have not made an arrest. grief counselors are on the campus and at the middle school where he was a student just last year. >> this is a despicable act. the police have taken a special interest in it because of the youth of the victim and because

there is no indication that he did anything that would expect him to be is target. >> the oakland police department and crimestoppers are offering $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. thank you. now back to the new details in the shooting deaths of two men in a quiet livermore neighborhood. our reporter, amy hollyfield, is in livermore. amy? >> witnesses and friends of the victim say that there was a struggle over a gun. police are trying to work out the specifics of who fired the fatal shots. while they work on the specific picture, residents want to know more about the big picture. who is in their neighborhood? what are they doing there? >> we know more details about this man, seen in this video you will only see on abc7 news. he is 28-year-old officer livermore and he is a convicted

felon. when they caught him he did not go willingly. >> we conduct at traffic stop, he resisted arrest and. k-9 was deployed. he was bitten and taken into custody. police were after him for the shooting deaths of two men in their 20's killed in this quiet livermore neighborhood. at this point he has not been charged with their murders. hearing about the arrest was a relief to those who live here. >> we are excited. more at peace. >> witness describe the argument that ended in gunfire yesterday afternoon. police say the three met up here to do an illegal deal. >> a friend of the victim said it was a gun deal and there was a struggle over the gun. he did not want to be identified but he came to the press conference looking for more answers. >> what argument led to us this? no one has to die over a $500 weapon.

covering fremont, palo alto, north bay, and all the bay area this is abc7 news. more and more parents in the united states are asking doctors to delay vaccinating their kids. this is the take away from a national survey of 500 pediatricians released this morning. it is reported that one in five doctors say at least 10 percent of parents want to postpone shots represented for children under two. doing that can make those kids and others vulnerable to preventible diseases. doctors recommend vaccination against 14 diseases for kids under the age of two. >> breakthrough study could determine how long you are going

you that first. i get so excited about the snow there it is. my goodness, snow showers still falling and this is this morning from heavenly where they had a foot or more as did man areas over the weekend and live doppler hd has it centered on incline village, and south lake tahoe, and doug to kirkwood. we are still getting scattered snow showers and that is the key. the bulk of the storm is hitting now and it is not going to be nearly as intense for us nor in the sierra so i expect only a couple of inches. this is how it looks now. you can see the flakes falling and i will show you the seven-day forecast because today is the last day for snow. as we head into tomorrow we will be close to average 45 and many and look at the 30s and 60s for lows and highs friday, saturday and sunday. definitely going to be warm. back home, we can see the swirling counter-clockwise nature as it slides down the

coast and not so much moisture with the system, not so much instability and one of the reasons has been the lack of sunshine. we are seeing a little bit right new and that will help the air become more buoyant that could park a few more showers in the afternoon and you can see the dark clouds are out there, they are just not letting anything go. you can seat bottoms of the crowds are flat f they were diffuse flood would be the rain. isolated showers and thunder and hail will keep it in the forecast and clearing and much cooler with fog around petaluma and santa rosa and sunny and a big warming trend as we head to the end of the week. this is how it looks from the east bay hills it is hazy because of the moisture and too much tree pollen and with it being so warm mar trees will bloom as we get deeper into this week. here is the low pressure the last 12 hours sliding down the coast right at us with the less energy and limited moisture, you can see there is a lot of showers away us. as we zoom in and roll through the next five hours, not much
