few more patches tonight and that will bring a slight change to the second half of your weekend. we will have the temperatures for the entire weekend coming up. chris. >> thank you. developing news out of san jose this morning. an escaped inmate serving time for child molestation and who police label as a dangerous man continues to be the object of a manhunt and he may have changed his clothes. there's evidence that the inmate was at the apartment and switched clothing. katie marzullo reports. [sirens] >> police cars by the dozens k9 units and helicopters overhead. it's the focus of an intense manhunt. look at this man. he's 40-year-old johnell carter african-american, and he has the name "alice" tattooed on his neck.

he escaped the custody of a sheriffs deputy during a routine examine. >> he should be considered dangerous. >> people in the area are on alerts. >> we have a dog and she's a pit bull so nobody is coming near us. >> we are safe here. but as far as the rest of the neighborhood, i'm sure they will are one eye open. >> it's kind of interesting to see everything happen. it's right here in front of my house. >> the search that you see from sky 7hd was called off before 6:00. as part of the hunt the sheriff's department contacted the family and checking phone records. >> we record our phones in the jail and go back to do investigation work to see if it was a land escape. >> amounts bc7 news. >> this morning hay wood police are on the lookout for a man who tried to abduct a girl yesterday

near sycamore avenue and 15th. a man in his 20th tried to pull her into the car. she fought him off and escaped. a newer model four door honda civic. people at berkeley lou burglaries may have been ex-potion today measles. they visit the the west branch library on february 27 and 28th and the central branch library on the 27th. the risk for exposure is not strong. however, health officials say anyone who visited the libraries on those dates should monitor themselves for symptoms for the next two weeks. symptoms include a fever and rash. there are -- there have been 132 measles cases statewide. police will know longer track dozens of gaining members in some zones." yesterday the city attorney dismissed injunctions between two gangs being tracked. they said they will focus on

other areas given their limited resources t started in 2010 from starting 15 members of a gaining from communicating with another gaining members. 5:04 is our time. two security screeners and another man are charged with taking bribes through checkpoints for drugs. drugs were flown to hawaii on commercial aircraft. the two tsa employees were arrested and arraigned on charges of bribery and drug smuggling. an open police informant tipped them off to the operation. lisa told you about the bay area's warm weather this weekend. and so many people decided to get outside. however, as abc7 news reporter alyssa harrington reports emergency workers want to remind people that trails and beaches can be treacherous.

>> it's crazy. >> the san francisco beach looked more like late spring or summer. people watching the sunset on blankets and kids playing in the water. >> i am in a t-shirt and i'm perfectly warm. >> it's been pretty great today. >> jacob took advantage of the warm day with her six-year-old. >> it's super. i got my toes wet. >> it could be highs in the 70s this weekend. and emergency crews are prepared. they saved a teenage who are doubled down a cliff at land's end. the 17-year-old was taking pictures at dead man's point when he slipped and fell at least 200 feet. remarkably the injuries are not serious. >> he will be okay. he was walking up and he had on flip-flops so he lost those and we were able to rescue him and walk him back up the cliff.

c >> this is abc7 news. >> disturbing video has surfaced out of oakland unified school district t shows school security officers dragging a student at fremont high school. that's disturbing enough but it's really what happened off-camera that's outraged the oakland unified police chief. laura anthony has the story you will see only on 7. >> we shouldn't be putting our hands on the student. there's no reason to put our hands on the student. >> it happened on january 22nd, 2014. a 15-year-old freshman was called to the office at fremont high for a meeting with an administrator. this office security video, the

student stands there for a few moments before he's approached by two school security officers. they apparently want him to move. >> you will see a security officer right here in the jacket come up and talk to him. the reports states that he's asking him to leave the threshold of the door. >> the events are described by oakland school's new police chief jeff gooddel. >> he pushed him into the officer. the officer turned around and put his arm around his neck and utah name a hold. >> he's quite troubled not only by the officer's use of force but but also that the video sat in a file for 14 months. this one showed another school security officer punching a student in a wheelchair at oakland high. mitchell was fired and goes on trial next month. in this case the attorney for the 15-year-old is considering a civil lawsuit. ronald cruz said there was no reason for the security guards to engage with the students at

all let alone manhandle and choke him. they have no busy working around children and should be fired: they said they will call for more training and place them on leave pending the outcome of an intensive investigation and they will review prioration cases. >> never investigation conducted by the department the last five years we are reviewing every one. >> all of the officers, sworn and civilian, will wear body cameras. laura anthony abc7 news. >> a plane said chp officers pulled a gun last year and they are cleared of any wrongdoing. it was on december sot. they said the chp officer acted within policy saying his partner was being attacked by protesters so he pulled his firearm. the bridge is safe despite

cracks. brian maloney said the structure would barely move in a major earthquake even if all the rods were pulled from the foundation and missing. however experts say the bridge would be vulnerable. this morning doctors are looking to get actor harrison ford back on his feet after a plane crash. they are trying to figure out what went wrong causing him to crash land his small plane. we have the report from ucla medical center. >> as investigators removed the wreckage of harrison ford's plane there are new images and eyewitness accounts of the crash the there's a plane down. >> actually we all volunteered and got him out of the plane and put him a distance away from the airplane. >> as ford was talking to the

control tower andrew was recording video was the plane went down. >> the engine started to sputter and went completely out. >> it looked like it was short of the runway. >> harrison ford is a terrific pilot. if your plane fails you there's not much you can do but count on your piloting skills. >> his piloting skills are welcome documented. and he's had some dramatic close calls, including two other accidents, one in a helicopter and the other in a small plane. but like his character, he survives. >> crash landing. >> investigators have taken the plane wreckage to a private hangar where it will be analyzed. he continues to be treated here at ucla medical center. he is expected to make a foul recovery.

abc news, los angeles. >> six donors and six recipients all feeling great this morning after a rare 6-way kidney swap wrapped up in san francisco. the doctors aid there were no complications. this started with one donor who wanted to give but didn't have anything to give to. a software program created by a san francisco man linked him with a recipient along with five other pairs. it was a big undertaking for one hospital but it had to be done in just two days. >> we did three yesterday and you decide to do three months, there are things that can happen in the middle that will break the chain. >> this was the largest kidney donation chain on the west coast. schools in california will begin administrator the common core exam next week. last year they had a practice run but now it counts. while the new curriculum is preparing students to be critical thinkers, some are having a tough time adjusting.

lyanne melendez explains. >> reporter: many of us learned that for the most part schoolwork must be memorized. that's true to a certain extent but as part of the common core curriculum students are being asked to understand concepts thoroughly. >> and most importantly, be able to demonstrate that they know what they can do. >> the school officials sat down to work on examples. in this question a student is asked if all the figures on the computer are tar level grams. in the past the answer would have been yes or no. now the students must explain his or her answer. getting here hasn't been easy. teachers have been retrained in the common core curriculum. >> they they might not know so the class is keeping ways to do it. >> but in some schools the use of computers limited and not every child has one at home. >> writing on a computer is difficult because i'm new at

typing and writing on paper is like -- like normal for me. >> but students in california next week the students will begin taking the common core exam. unlike the old star program that took several days, the schools will have from march 10th to the end of may to conduct all the testing without disrupting learning. >> the window for the testing is like six weeks. >> because it's so spread out san francisco unified will be able to assign one computer to ten students. >> it's a different way of teaching it's a different way of learning but it is, i think, better preparation for our children for the 21st century? >> san francisco lyanne melendez, abc7 news. >> yes the oakland football team signed a one year lease extension to play next year at the o-dot-0 coliseum.

they are getting serious about hammering out a deal for a new stadium complex. >> we needed to complete the one -year lease extension in order to buy the time to finish the long-term deal which includes real estate components -- >> the one year lease must still be approved by the almeda county council and supervisors. they talked about looking to move if no deal is reached. the oakland a's are rolling out their annual welcome matt for the city's little leaguers. up to 400 oakland youth are expected to be on hand to play eat lunch and play in the fun zone. these are scenes from a previous year's event. they have only 3% of youth who play baseball. there is a full schedule of

games today at soccer thanks to unlocking the fields. it's in martinez. and they were closed because union workers at the refinery are on strike. but they reached an agreement where the workers would not picket at the field. for of the last four years 600 players on 49 teams have been force today share just three fields because of the strike. getting out on the baseball diamond is a great chance to get away from technology because this is the national day of unplugging. the san francisco rec and park department is sponsoring a get out and play day so you can get away from social media. this is the sixth year of unplugging. it's a growing movement designed to log off and power down for 24 hours. awful you have to do is simply put down your device, cell phone, ipad or whatever and walk away slowly. see if you can go a full day without having to scratch that

will see some fog around point reyes and parts of the shoreline. east bay hills this morning it's quiet with temperatures in the mid-to upper 30s from napa to santa rosa. by the delta we are unless the 40s. 47 concord. livermore at 41 degrees and finally from emeryville we have got a quiet start. we have chilly conditions, clear skies for the most part mild to warm over the weekend. a few changes come along the coast by comb and we spring forward tonight. long-range outfit is flirting with rain. we will talk about it in a moment. right now it's about a light offshore flow in the upper levelsful the atmosphere allowing for the unseasonably mild weather to last early next week. it will begin to cool down a little bit. the ridge has been protecting the western third of the nation and, of course, all the inclement weather the storm center up and over the ridge. looks like tuesday and wednesday we would see some rain. now it looks like maybe just the north bay on wednesday.

here's the short term. look at the coastal low clouds and fog. by 10:00 tonight from point reyes, half moon bay, the san mateo county coast, you are waking up to a little bit more fog tomorrow, your sunday afternoon. that will allow for temperatures to come down maybe a couple degrees into the mid-60s san francisco, ocean beach point reyes probably low to 60 60s. here comes the front. it will cool us down. not forecasting any rain in the city throughout the next seven days. and san jose we are well into the mid-70s average highs mid-60s and the numbers bump up out ahead of the front that will bring the numbers down. tuesday and wednesday still above average. 68 downtown and 76 one of the warmer locations up in napa and santa rosa. 75 livermore and san jose morgan hill. and at the beach it's nice and

san francisco. so aside from some of the patchy fog, novato, half moon bay, we are under tons of sun again today about temperatures at much as 10 to 15 degrees above average. that puts us in the mid-and upper 60s for ocean beach and point reyes, san francisco. everyone else in lot to mid-70s. so we are talking about more warmth but subtle changes the second half of the weekend and maybe rain in the seven-day outlook. we will have it in the next few minutes. chris. >> thank you. new this morning, president obama says every girl deserves an education. in his weekly address the president referred to the initiative he and first lady called "let girls learn." it's goals it to help more girls around the school to go to school and stay in school. the president believes educated girls make the world a safer place. when girls are educated, their future children are healther and better nourished their future wages increase which in turns

make repairs. thousands of people pulled into the bay area this week for the annual video game developers conference. but chances are your school-aged kids have only one game on their mind mind craft. it's now being spurred to inspire the game developers of tomorrow. >> what could have all of these kids staring at one screen? maybe you have heard of it. a game called mind craft? >> what is the mind craft thing? >> i don't know if i can explain it. i'll call on one. kids. >> it's just very addicting. you can do whatever you want. you can build, map structures and pretty much you just let your mind create. >> a virtual world that's been taking the real world by storm. he use toss it teach kids electronics. >> people are already asking can

we play mind craft on this? >> now you can. the 150-dollar kit is called piper. kids build a machine to play mind craft and have to build new parts to play each left. they build the buttons and switches and then build in the real world and use them to control the game. >> it's exciting when you put all the parts together and when you are done and it's starting to load. >> he wanted to teach kids the gadgets they know and love aren't that sophisticated after all. >> you can take it apart and put it together and it's something you can do yourself. >> they were hoping to build a more productive way for kids to play mind craft at home. >> what i saw was absolute engagement. i saw kids who immediately turned toward this docks and were engaged. >> at berkeley school, it could become part of a tech class where they already teach kids to code. and the kids got to video chat with the co-founder.

>> it gets lots of kids excited that wouldn't be otherwise. >> she's a junior at harvard and dreams of building a college version of piper some day but first they have to fund this one. they are raising money on kickstarter through april 3rd. johnathan bloom abc7 news. lots of people turned out yesterday hoping to adopt one of the puppies abandoned in san rafael. a man said he found nine puppies in a box next to a dumpster on tuesday. he brought the rottweiler rottweiler-labrador mix pup business to the humane society. yesterday two went up for adoption and there was a line out the door. >> i filled out the application and it was granted. and i got the little guy and he's so cute. >> we hope that people, if they weren't able to get one of the nine, they will still consider adopting another dog, maybe an older dog. >> the rest of the puppies are expected to be available next week. if you want more information about adopting one just go to our website abc7news.com.

>> the long labor dispute at ports along the west coast may be over but some say you would never know it. abc7 news reporter cornell bernerd has a report on how many bay area companies are still suffering. [horns] >> and the goal is to get cargo to customers as quickly as we can. >> it's a game of cargo catch-up at the port of oakland where work on the docks is getting back to normal or trying to. longshoremen working nights and weekends. >> right now what you have are ships, containers, and the truck-trailers that carry the containers all in places we don't want them. we need to get them back into the container yards, ships back on schedule. >> the frustrations are hard to describe. >> steve is tired of waiting. his company distributes important coffee beans throughout the bay area but lately there's been few cargo shipments arriving. >> are you back to normal yet?

>> no, no. we aren't even close to being back to normal. i anticipate that that will take safely six to eight weeks. >> the work slow down at west coast ports ended last month but this warehouse is still only half full of coffee beans. workers have been laid off as a result. >> how are things in the port of oakland? >> slow. >> he is feeling the pressure to pick up cargo fast but can't. there are trucks at the porch just spend being the whole day waiting for the logjam to end. >> it should take 45 minutes until the time he arrives until he leaves. >> how long is it taking now? >> right now today we are taking about five hours. yesterday it was six hours. >> there's a lot of work to do. and that's mostly involving our customers. we need to win their trust back. >> but many customers have run out of patience. abc7 news.
