northeast and new england feeling like this. this is along the cape. you see the person standing right here and then the ice and snow towering above. well, they see the 40s and 50s and they go, yes, it's going to warm up, and then, what does that mean? in places like kentucky, you can see the video, louisville, the warmer temperatures and rivers high from the recent snowfall. i think that's going to be the case. you can see right here, along this map, friday, more than 50% of our nation was covered in snow. now, we have cut that in half already by this morning. so, yes, there are potential flood fears from the midsouth on, but it's the moisture that's pulling up in texas from the pacific. this is separate, triggering flash flood watches from austin and houston and two to four inches overall. some places could see six-plus in the deep south to nashville. >> a lot of fallen snow over the weekend. when it started to melt. we're going to move to politics now. lots of moves in the next race for president with hillary clinton taking more heat over her e-mails. as secretary of state. and jeb bush making first stops.

in the key state of iowa. jon karl tracking it all. good morning, jon. >> reporter: good morning, george. hillary clinton is now facing criticism from some of her supporters over how she's handled the controversy over her e-mails. while one of her rivals on the republican side appears to be hitting his stride. jeb bush looked the part as he courted voters over the weekend at a place called the pizza ranch in cedar rapids, iowa. >> i want to win. i want our party to win. >> reporter: hillary clinton, on the other hand, is finding that ignoring the controversy over her e-mails is not going to make it go away. it was even front and center on "saturday night live." >> i mean, what did you think my e-mails said? "hi, it's hillary. i really screwed up on benghazi today. please." [ laughter ] "there will be no mistakes in my rise to the top.

if i decide to run. who knows." >> reporter: mrs. clinton has said nothing to explain why she took the highly unusual step of completely bypassing government e-mail while she was secretary of state. instead, running everything through a private server in her home. president obama told cbs he didn't know about the e-mail arrangement until the story broke last week. >> the policy of my administration is to encourage transparency. >> reporter: clinton was hammered on the sunday morning talk shows. >> i don't think she's going to be president. >> did she comply with the public integrity requirement? no, she didn't. >> reporter: even clinton supporters like democratic senator dianne feinstein say she has explaining to do. >> she needs to step up and come out and state exactly what the situation is. the silence is going to hurt her. >> reporter: a source close to mrs. clinton tells me that she may not address this controversy until after forally announces she's running for president,

possibly early next month. meanwhile, bill clinton was asked about this shgs i shouldn't be making news on this. >> jon, thanks very much. meanwhile, in the interview, you showed president obama also pushing this possible nuclear agreement with iran over the weekend. and just now, we're learning of a pretty remarkable letter from 47 republican senators to the iranian leaders saying, hey, even if the president reaches an agreement, don't believe we're going to stand by it. >> reporter: an extraordinary letter, george offering them a civics lesson in how the united states government works. saying, quote, anything not approved by congress is an executive document. the next president could revoke an executive agreement with the stroke of a pen. so that is from the republican senators to the iranian leadership. now to the latest on the fatal shooting of an unarmed african-american man in madison, wisconsin.

demonstrators taking to the streets over the weekend and more demonstrations are planned today. abc's linzie janis with the very latest this morning. good morning, linzie. >> reporter: good morning, robin. the home behind me is where that struggle went down between a police officer and tony robinson that ended up in the teen being shot multiple times. this morning, this community is demanding to know why he lost his life. >> what's his name? >> tony robinson. >> reporter: overnight, a heart-wrenching tribute to 19-year-old tony robinson, following a third day of impassioned protests here in madison. so many comparing him to michael brown and eric garner. other unarmed black men killed by police. >> how do y'all sleep at night? >> reporter: it all started friday night, about 6:30. police receiving at least three different complaints about a suspect matching tony robinson's

description fighting at a gas station and running through traffic. >> outside, yelling and jumping in front of cars. >> reporter: 45-year veteran of the force, matt kenny, was the first to arrive at the apartment robinson was visiting. you can hear him on police radio reporting a disturbance inside. kenny then forcing entry and moments later -- >> shots fired, shots fired. >> reporter: he fires multiple times. police say defending himself from an attack by robinson. though it's unclear if he knew the teen was unarmed. robinson was on probation after pleading guilty to being party to an armed robbery last year, but the teen's friends and family say he was a gentle giant with plans to go to college. >> to die in such a violent way, it baffles me. >> reporter: as for kenny, he was involved in shooting another man to death in 2007 but was exonerated. this morning, he's on paid administrative leave as the

state's justice department investigates. last night's vigil was truly moving. so many of tony robinson's friends still in high school grieving and telling their stories. they say they will fight until they get justice for their friend. they're planning more peaceful protests today and the family will speak later on today. >> thanks. turning now to the fraternity at the university of oklahoma shut down after a video surface appearing to show its members using a racist chant. the chapter of the frat moved fast to cut it off and the university is promising to take action as well. good morning, ryan. >> good morning, george. sigma alpha epsilon is the country's largest fraternity with over 15,000 members and 159 years on campuses. the organization closing its university of oklahoma chapter and tossing out some members after a video surfaced so shocking we have bleeped out the offensive words. overnight, the national chapter

[ muted ]. >> you can hang them from a tree, but they'll never -- [ muted ]. >> reporter: the video was reportedly shot this saturday and posted to youtube by an organization called unheard, an alliance of african-american students. chelsea davis told abc news that they posted the video to bring attention to the culture on campus. >> well, i believe an apology will not suffice. this is a cultural issue that needs to change within the university itself. i think the university needs to go as far as expelling students. >> reporter: students immediately reacting. >> i was really hurt by it and shocked. >> reporter: the national chapter of sae released a statement, we apologize for the unacceptable and racist behavior of the individuals in the video

and we are disgusted that any member would act in such a way. this morning, fraternity members moved out of the house with police escorts nearby for safety. also this morning, the university president saying the school has severed all ties with the fraerntyty. also appearing overnight, a twitter campaign that says, not on our campus. while the university says it's investigating, police are now posted outside the fraternity. students are planning a peaceful protest this morning. abc news reached out to members of sigma alpha epsilon at the university of oklahoma, and no one is commenting at this time. robin and george. >> there's nothing good to say about it. let's go to amy with the other top stories starting with the deadly coal mine accident overnight. that's right, a roof and a wall collapsed at a coal mine near wheeling, west virginia, overnight. one miner was killed and two others injured. no word on the extent of injuries. everyone is now out of that mine. and new questions this morning in the search for malaysia airlines flight 370. that disappeared from radar one year ago. victims families have grown more

angry after learning what happened to a key piece of evidence. here's abc's bob woodruff. >> reporter: this morning, alarming new details in the ongoing search for the airline. a new report revealing the battery of the locator beacon expired more than a year before the plane went down. a possible reason, it has not been found. in beijing, families this weekend demonstrated their growing anger about how the malaysian government has handled the search and answered their questions. 12 months ago, we all witnessed their pain. it's out of control here. i just can't believe this. malaysian airlines announced in january that all the passengers are dead and ended all rescue operations. this woman still believes that her husband is alive and her 2-year-old son keeps asking her when dad will come home. if you could say anything to the malaysian airlines officials, what would you tell them? follow your conscience and stop hiding the truth, she says. if you don't have the ability

safe after getting stranded on a small iceberg, this is on lake michigan. they were walking along when the ice broke free. divers had to swim out and helped firefighters tugged the ice back to shore. i'm sure a few frightening moments there. finally, two more criminals who thought they could outrun the law. what were they thinking? well, they weren't. here they are, speeding down a highway in arizona throwing out bales of marijuana out their window. not just two or three bales, we counted 17 bales thrown out before they were eventually arrested. there was a problem for the police. they had a tough time recovering the evidence because shockingly other drivers had stopped to pick up the pot for themselves. i believe that 17 bales far exceeds the legal possession limit for medical marijuana in that state which i looked up is 2.5 ounces. >> isn't bale like the common -- is that how you say it? i never heard it that way. >> if you have $1 million. >> all right, amy, thank you.
