abc7 news starts right now with live breaking news. that breaking news is out of san jose where police the fbi and the dea are conducting the largest crackdown on illegal gambling in the city's history. >> officers raided nearly a dozen cafes and rounded up gambling machines and more. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. lisa amin gulezian has more. lisa? >> the fbi the dea and the san jose police cleared out of here a few minutes ago. they arrived at wave cafe at 8:30 tonight and they did not leave empty handed. they loaded more than a dozen gambling machines into an unmarked suv. evidence confiscated from wave cafe one of 11 vietnamese owned cafes raided in san jose. federal, state and local

agencies worked together on what they are calling operation omni. sites where agents believe illegal gambling has been taking place. most of the locations are on or around tully road. this moving truck was filled with slot machines and other gaming devices. >> they took out some machines and chairs, and they started stacking them inside. there are women who are there in short clothes and sometimes they show body parts. >> several people were questioned and detained, but they will not confirm if anyone was arrested. the raid shocked this cafe employee. >> i don't to anything illegal. the first time i am scared. >> and a police source told me at least one murder is linked to the violence that erupted around these vietnamese cafes during the past year and a

half and tonight at least a hundred slot machines were seized. lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. >> thank you. a bay area community known for its low crime rate is trying to solve a mysterious murder tonight. dental student was found dead in her apartment. abc7 news reporter alan wang is live in albany at the police headquarters there. alan? >> police aren't speaking to the media but a lot of people want to know if they are in immediate danger. it is creating an uncomfortable feeling for them because there hasn't been a murder in albany in more than a decade. the 37-year-old was a dental student at ucsf about to complete her final semester. on monday she failed to show up for an appointment with a patient so her cousin was asked to go to her apart meant inial -- her apartment in albany. >> he found the body on the floor. >> paul was lying in a pool of blood.

a bullet casing was found on the ground. paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. >> i just learned of this. this is shocking news. this is a very safe neighborhood. i am surprised to hear it. >> she was living here by herself in this apartment for five years. her next door neighbors say they never met her. >> somebody mentioned they heard a gunshot around 9:30 10:00. >> it was sunday night, but nobody reported it to police because they didn't realize it was a gunshot. neighbors say the sound of gunfire is rare. >> i certainly hope it is not a trend, and there is nothing else i have seen recently that would suggest that. >> neighbors say they fear for their safety because there is a killer on the loose. meanwhile police declined to comment on the case saying it is an on going investigation. alan wang abc7 news. >> the ucsf school of dentist re issued this statement saying we are saddened at the tragic loss. our hearts go out to her

family and friends. angry parents spoke out about school cuts. during a public hearing the parents shared their fears that the district is going in the wrong direction. the school district faces a $2 million budget deficit. the board members have discussed a 4% pay cut for teachers and increasing classroom size to 31 students per teacher. that means 17 teaching positions would be eliminated. >> i don't understand how all of the press releases say we have been as far in the hole as we have been. >> tomorrow the school board will discuss their options at a scheduled meeting where the public can speak again. if they plan to layoff teachers they will have to notify them by march 15th. >> developing news now. a tense day in court as attorneys cross-examine minuted a woman who is suing a prestigious venture capital firm.

low. it is rivaling the grim levels. >> the city of berkeley approved a new ordinance to require liquor stores in certain areas to have surveillance cameras. they voted unanimously to approve it. it is a small investment that could have a large impact on reducing crime. toll takers at the bay bridge and the six other state owned bridges could become a thing of the past. there is talk of going to all electron thick following just like we have now on the golden gate bridge. lilian kim is live and probably only a matter of time at this point. >> reducing the number of toll takers has been the trend and transportation officials will decide whether to pay for a study that looks into getting rid of them entirely. >> it is after rush hour and cars are moving along just fine through the bay bridge toll plaza. during any other time especially the weekend people will tell you --

>> it is always bad. >> the people who manage the seven-state owned toll bridges are looking at all electronic following as an option which means no more toll takers, at least for part of the day. cameras will take pictures of license plates so those without trans ponders will get a bill in the mail. >> it creates congestion. we want to make the system work so it works for everybody. >> there is some concern. the seven on your side investigation found ever since they implemented the electronic following two years ago people have been complaining about getting fined before ever getting a bill. it was so bad that it prompted the attorney to file a class action lawsuit. >> if they used the same flawed system they are using on the golden gate bridge my firm will have a lot more clients. >> despite the potential problems many motorists are open to the idea.

>> hi ama and dan. it is great to see that maybe we will see some showers around here tomorrow morning. as we look at live doppler 7hd, not much of this is actually reaching the ground if anything maybe a sprinkle or two. so far people on social media are not reporting anything. i do want to show you wider view. darker greens and yellows are showing up. we also have moisture off the coast of sonoma there. we are going to watch for that. the temperatures with the cloud cover are pretty mild in the 50s and you can see some of the clouds from our exploratorium camera looking toward coit tower. scattered light showers and the temperatures will rebound on thursday and we are looking at beach weather for the upcoming weekend. here is the pacific satellite picture. watching the system and a long stream of moisture toward the hawaiian islands. so far it has amounted to mostly high and midlevel clouds. that will change a little as the atmosphere moistens up toward the morning hours.

around 2:00 when you are sleeping we will start to see some green on the screen here at 2:00 a.m. 5:00 a.m. you will notice east bay, san francisco the peninsula and parts of the north bay are getting a few showers. not a lot happening in the south bay. 8:00 a.m. when you are getting the kids off to school you may see a few showers south of san jose. it is not going to be a drought breaker obviously and it is not going to make a dent in the deficit but it is something at this point. rainfall estimates are anywhere from 0 to .05 of an inch. north bay a 10th to a quarter of an inch. a couple of inches of snow in the sierra nevada. if you are heading to tahoe the know level is 7,000 to 8,000 feet. tomorrow morning make sure you have your umbrellas. upper 40s to the mid50s.
