broadcast center, this is abc 7 news. two men are finally in custody after a high-speed chase that went on for hours. it started early this morning in san jose went through three cities and ended in a man hunt in sunnyvale. that's where a police dog successfully cornered them. thanks for join us i'm kristen sze and i'm jennings. >> and matt, those suspects put a lot of people in danger. >> yes they did and this was a scary time for the people in this sunnyvale neighborhood. they're not used to that much police activity, but in the end no one was hurt and the police

got their men. a massive man hunt for two suspected carjackers came to an end just before sunrise in sunnyvale. two men believed to be in their early 20s were captured around 6:50 a.m. hiding ina garage in a small, private condo community of blackberry terrace. >> it's scary. it's usually not a whole lot going on and it's definitely unsettling unsettling. >> reporter: the two suspects ended up here after they carjacked a man at the county fairgrounds in san jose, leading them on a high-speed chase on 280, the 85 before getting off on fremont avenue into the sunnyvale neighborhood. they hit a dead end on west remington way next to stephen's creek and highway 85. they ditched the car and ran off, leaving behind a handgun on the ground and a pellet gun in the escalade. a man was spotted nearby jumping

fences off south bernardo avenue in blackberry terrace. >> i just heard a loud noise in the middle of the night and the dogs started barking and that was peculiar. >> it's, like on the floor so it looks like he jumped over my backyard and landed somewhere else. >> the man landed in a garage and two police dogs were sent in. medical personnel were brought in to treat both carjacking suspects for dog bites after they were arrested and the police got their men and the police dogs were also rewarded. so when they do the right thing they get that toy. that toy could be a ball or another, you know, thing that they want badly. and so they're rewarded with a toy. >> reporter: the two men were taken to the hospital to be treated for their dog bites. they face several serious charges including carjacking and burglary. reporting live in sunnyvale, matt kellar abc 7 news.

out of ferguson missouri, two police officers are out of the hospital after being targeted and shot at at a protest overnight after the shooting death of an unarmed black teen. elissa harrington has more. >> a few people were taken in for questioning, but so far there have been no arrests. s.w.a.t. teams swarm a house in ferguson missouri only block away from the police station where two officers were shot in what the chief calls an ambush. people in the home were forced out and detained for questioning. >> they're going in the house yell be come out with your hands up. we know you're in there. this cell phone video captures the chaotic moment someone opened fire during a demonstration. hundreds gathered following the resignation of the town's police chief. bullets hit the officers monitoring the crowd and they were only in ferguson to assist from outside departments, in st. louis and webster grove.

>> webster grove's officer was shot right here at the high point of your cheek, right under the right eye and the bullet lodges right behind his ear. the st. louis county officer was struck right here on the shoulder and the bullet came out the middle of his right back. >> reporter: pictures from polaris images show the officers being treated by paramedics and wheeled into the ambulance. ferguson has been the site of numerous protests after since an officer killed michael brown in august. brown's family released a statement condemning the shooting. part of it reads we reject any kind of violence directed at members of law enforcement. it cannot and will not be tolerated. we must work together to bring peace to our community. president barack obama also addressed the violence in a tweet calling it unacceptable. he says our prayers are with the officers in missouri. a path to justis is one all of

us must travel together. elissa harrington abc news. warning people about possible rabeies exposure. a dead bat has tested positive for the disease after testing positive on black hawk road. rabies is passed by touching an infected animal or by being bitten by one. it can be deadly. control officials will be handing out flyers detailing the symptoms that people need to watch out for. bart police are using an unusual-looking mobile device keeping eye on krimcriminals at bart stations. it is not pretty but it is getting more attention. amy? >> hi, cheryl. it's eye-catching for sure. we've noticed a lot of bart passengers looking up at it but what they're hoping is that the criminals will notice it.

it definitely stands out. >> it's a little star warsy. >> it's 25-feet tall making those on the ground feel pretty small. >> pretty imposing. >> reporter: and it's a bit mysterious with the dark windows. >> it's intimidating. bart police say that's the point, to intimidate criminals and hopefully scare them away. >> i think that's a great idea. i think, you know, we need the protection. people need to start doing what they're doing and we want to be safe. >> reporter: bart police say this tower gives them a good view of parking lots so they can see a crime in progress and call it in. the tower is mobil and they tow it to different bart stations that are experiencing an issue with crime. right now it is in north berkeley where police say they've noticed an uptick in bike thefts. >> it sounds like an excellent idea. it seems very efficient and put them where the problems are and you have an eye in the sky. i like it.

>> reporter: not everyone is embracing this odd-looking police tool. >> it seems excessive to me like a lot of police presence and overuse of police power these days. >> reporter: police say it does appear to work and just about everyone we met said, they welcome the extra security. >> for parking purposes and vandalism on the cars it's a good idea. >> reporter: notice with tinted windows we can't even see if there is an officer in there. that's the point. they don't have to have someone in there. the hope is just the tower itself will be a deterrent. this didn't cost bart riders a thing. bart officials said they paid with this it was $90,000 with a grant. reporting, amy hollyfield. the city of el cerrito is urging owners to register their bicycles. they changed city code last year to eliminate bicycle licenses.

now. you are looking live at the scene of of a fatal crash in san francisco. police vehicles there. it happened within the past hour. near 16th after and lincoln way in the sunset district. a motorcyclist rear ended a car and the motorcyclist was killeded. police are releasing a few details at this time. our breaking news continues on twitter at abc7 news bay area

and on our website abc7news.com. you will soon breathe easier if you let your kids use your phone to log on to facebook. the media giant may reimburse you if your kids spend money on the site that you didn't approve. the class action lawsuit against facebook can move forward. plaintiffs now expect hundreds of thousands of people to join in. they say facebook is being uncooperative by not issuing refunds already. facebook says the case has no merit. a similar case last december saw google forking over $19 million to consumers. do you drive distracted? you may have sent a text behind the wheel once or twice right? a lot of americans are admitting they have a problem with texting and they just can't stop which is really sad. "a usa today" poll said a majority of americans agree that texting and driving is dangerous, very dangerous but they're doing it anyway. they think they're special, right? university of southern california surveyed 900 drivers. 87% agreed it is dangerous to

thanks for coming in. i like spending time with my morning crew and warm temperatures and this is the start of of a warming trend. live doppler 7 hd shows you we are clear outside and we're in the 60s in a lot of spots and san francisco and 62 hayward and 67, san ramon and mountain view 67 degrees and we're going to the 70s in a lot of spots and the only issue we have is with the warm air and dry conditions and pollen especially with the trees at high level today and pine, oak, cedar and juniper are your main offenders today. satellite and radar will show you high pressure firmly in control to the north of us with high pressure and you get air that squashes the cloud cover and it will warm us up over the next couple of days. as we take a look at future temperatures, fast forward to tomorrow and 70s on the board and san francisco topping out in the upper 60s. watch what happens on saturday. the heat pump really turns on and by 5:00 saturday evening we're starting off the weekend with a couple of 80s on the board and livermore, fairfield

and oakland coming close to 80 degrees and san francisco, downtown getting into the mid-70s and that is some 10 degrees above normal for this start of the year. still nice and mild and 73 in vallejo and 69 to san francisco and 74 in san jose and antioch getting up to a high of 77 degrees and tonight it's a mixture of stars and clouds out there and the clouds act like a blanket. so mild overnight in the 40s and the 50s. we have 52 in oakland. 53 in san francisco and 49 in san jose. here is the accuweather seven-day forecast and it's sunny, mild and this is the start of the warming trend and by tomorrow we're ending very mild upper 70s inland and on saturday with 80s pop up on the board and could see a couple of records being broken especially the inland valleys and wouldn't be surprised to see mid-80s by saturday evening and we're calling it beach weather and monday we continue the trend of partly cloudy skies and little
