the police officer is now you should e under investigation for allegedly taking kick backs and other crimes. >> the reporter is here with the story you will only see on abc 7 news. >> reporter: cheryl and dan, the officer resigned last month when the sooip visors first confronted him. i'm going to show you how investigators found some important evidence. >> ricky rodriguez is a 32-year veteran. most recently, he was on the captain's desk. the criminal investigation against rodriguez covers two issues. first, accusations that he took kickbacks for steering business to a towing company, after calling several times and getting no response, i called up to rodriguez at his home on the peninsula. >> i need to talk to you. >> i can't. >> no?

they caught an sfpd undercover car at rodriguez's home where it shouldn't have been. rodriguez kept the car for its personal use since it was assigned in october, 2011 and that he parked it at the grocery store so his fellow officers would not find out. >> want we're hearing is that he hid from others that he had the vehicle. what sort of a crime is that? what is that? >> well, it is a form of embezzlement. it's using property that's owned by his employer for personal purposes. >> the undercover car even shows up at rodriguez's house in this google satellite image. >> how does a guy use an undercover car for four years without anybody knowing about it? >> that's a good question that superiors are going to have to annals, as well. >> the chief tells me he's launching an audit to make sure all department vehicles are being used properly. i've asked the city for tow records that may shed more life on this case.
