>> it's saturday march 14th. good morning i'm chris win. let's start with a quick look at the forecast. here's lisa argen tracking live doppler hd. hi, lisa. >> good morning to you. we are locking at rain n the bay area just high clouds. yesterday it was warm. we broke a few records. and today, once again, we will see temperatures well above average. about 15 degrees above average. we are starting out pretty mild. the coolest number in napa 47. 57 downtown. 60 hayward. it's anywhere 5 to 10 degrees warmer in some spots throughout the morning hours. oakland 8 degrees warmer.

that's due to the high clouds. we are also looking at temperatures continuing to soar with the high clouds today. we are talking 70s, 80s, even though we will see filtered sunshine. we will talk about a cooler second half of the weekend in a few minutes. chris. >> lisa, thank you. a woman faces criminal charges after another security breach at a bay area airport. this time sfo. she even made it on to the runway. officers arrested 42-year-old adriano monterroso-santas on thursday evening. she's in jail and due to be tried on misdemeanor charges next month. investigators believe she was homeless and living in a shelter when she tried to stow away an plane. they claimed she ran on to a runway, waving her arms at a play. she wanted to return to guatemala, her home country and hoped to smoke on a plenty. she also told police she got the idea from the teen who snuck into the wheel well of a play

from san jose to hawaii last april. 15-year-old yayha abdi survived the trip somehow. >> i think everyone is a little leery of what can happen on on a plane and at an airport. pretty much anything can happen. >> this woman was cause trying to sneak on a plane 7 times. police went to serve a search warrant and wound up shooting a man to death. investigators are trying to figure out what happened. sergio quintana tells us more. >> a couple hours after the shooting a motorcycle was still lying in the middle of the street. witnesses said the man riding

the bike sped away from this house a few yards from the shooting scene. accord together napa police chief, officers were trying to serve a search warrant for drugs and weapons. >> they served the search warrant for a 41-year-old male. the shooting ensues. >> officers found a handgun at the shooting scene but it's not clear if the suspect you pulled the gun or fired a shot. we talked with a neighbor who was on her front porch when she heard the commotion. >> he was an motor cycle and they were like chasing him. i didn't see anything but i heard three shots. >> officers with the city of napa were involved in the shooting. so as part of standard procedure the officers of the sheriff's department took over the investigation. names have not been released. deputies are reviewing their security after one week a man

overpowered a guard and escaped. carter was classified as a minimum security inmate. that means only one guard was guarding him on the out of town trip. crime stoppers upped their reward to $6,000 for information leading to his arrest. the fbi tells abc7 news it could be monday before they release any information on a radiata home in san jose. agents went into the home early yesterday and hauled out boxes putting them into advance and trucks parked outside. the recording industry of america said they participated in the raid, saying it likely involved pirated music. officials found a dead crow in east mont that's the first case for west nile disease so far this year. it's alsos earliest date on record. it is a disease for birds but it

is possible for people to transmit it from mosquitoes. there's a missing teenager in morgan hill. this is the third year. sierra lamar vanished while walking to her bus stops. experts said they will only search when new tips come in. one man is in jail accused in her abduction and killing although her body has not been found. no trial date has been set. our time is 5:05. san jose police want to find the young people who beat and severely injured a teenage boy outside a busy shopping mall. the teenager remains sedated as doctors try to figure out if he has any permanent brain damage. we have the story. >> he clearly had gotten conscious. his legs moved and arms moved. he struggled. it was hard to watch because he's clearly disoriented and in pain. >> once christian rasner is

fully awake, doctors will test to see if he has permanent brain damage. his dad said he was beaten and his head slammed against the pavement by two young men in the westfield valley fair mall. his friends said the men were harassing him in the mall asking him what gang he is in. he is not in a gang. he's on the honor roll. police said they have surveillance images 6 the suspects in the mall but no cameras are in the parking lot. >> we all have kids or grandkids and you always worry something like that can happen to somebody who doesn't deserve it. >> he believes his son is not the only victim. >> there's been stories told around similar gang-related activities at mauls in the bay area. again, i don't have any empirical facts but anecdotally i've been told that a couple times. >> he said young people should

be vigilant at all times and tell mall security if anyone is bothering them abc news. >> the water scientists have dire news for california. we have just one year of water left. data shows water storage in the water base since will be gone in a year and the backup supply ground water will also be gone soon. he believes that the state has to start mandatory water rationing and needs to speed up a ground water sustainability plan. if you are look for ways it conserve water in the midst of our drought, national fix a leak week starts today. there are free tabs available to see if toilets are leaking water. you can pick it up across across east bay mud service area. you will see blue water in the

bowl in 15 minutes in the water is leaking. with the doubt entering the fourth year, some farmers are offered up to $71 million for their water. rice farmners the sacramento valley said the price offered is so high they can make more from selling water than from growing rice. they have made tentative deals to ship a portion of their water to the metropolitan water district of southern california later this year. 5:08 the time. pg&e could end up paying a larger fine from the latest san bruno pipeline explosion. it was recommended to increase to a total of $1.6 billion. most of the money would go to safety improvements in underground pipeline. the 2010 blast killed 8 people. san bruno city leaders say they are happy with the safety improvements but want more reforms when it comes to

faces charges of groping his fraternity brother. advocates say the latest sexual assault case is part of an ongoing problem on campuses across america. janet o. has the story from berkeley. >> police say the sexual assault happened here at the fraternity last month. the 21-year-old faces two felony charges for lewd acts, including trying to grope his fraternity brother during his sleep. he will be back in court next week. >> we expect at that time we will enter a not guilty plea. he has already passed the polygraph, one. preeminent polygraphers in the area. we are waiting for all the evidence to play out and i expect he will be exonerated. >> he goes on to criticizing the university for a lack of due process in handling the case. u. c. berkeley says they have been proactive in trying to help both the accused and victim but adds more could be done. >> at the end of the day we have one survivor advocate for 30,000 students.

over police benefits could continue next week. the mayor said it's time to settle the issue. in 2012, 70% of voters passed the b option. at the -- he said his office is looking at alternative strategies to implement pension reform. >> i'm looking forward to finding a way tone sure that the intent of the voters is fully protected at the same time that we find a way to settle all of these issues. >> today i will deliver the state of the city address for the first time as mayor. it's at 10:00 a.m. at independence high school. the man accused in a shooting death of a 30-year-old oakland mom is expected to be back in court next week. yesterday 19-year-old anthony simms hired a private attorney.

he's expected to enter a plea on thursday. simms was charged with the murder of shaneel pierce. they say she was an innocent bystander when she got caught in the crossfire near her home. it's not clear if simms fired the fatal shot or if he was just involved in the gun battle. police are still looking for other suspects. a new biography of steve jobs includes current ceo tim cook offered his boss a piece of his liver. accord together book becoming steve jobs, they shared a rare blood type so they were compatible but job refused it in 2009 a move he described as selfless. he said i told cookie will never let you do that. and cook said steve only yelled at me four or five times during the 13 years i knew him and this was one of them. jobs eventually received a liver

transplant but died in 2011. a north bay gas station is getting a lot of attention after a picture showed the incredibly high prices. someone posted it yesterday from bridge way gas in sausalito. you can barely see it but in the corner it says $7.97 per gallon. the on the other hand tells us because he was tired of people complaining about his prices. he said he keeps them a few cents higher than a station down the street. some people actually bought for eight dollars and other said not a chance. >> it's supply and demand. it just is completely ludicrous to think about filling up at this place. >> the gas station owner did end up lowering his price to a somewhat more reasonable $4.97 a gallon. when you hand over your keys for valet parking you expect your car to be there when you return right? a valet told a couple their car

was given away. they thought it was a prank. what can go long at a valet and how you can protect yourself. >> the unbelievable happened at this california valet stand. >> who gave it to them? >> the other guy that's not here anymore. >> wow. >> the valet came up and said, sir, we don't know how to tell you this but your car has been given away. we give it to someone else. >> josh's girlfriend, who was having dinner with him filmed the aftermath on her cell phone. >> one was an ohio man that had a tattoo here. >> they lost the ticket they said and the valet handed over the keys. they said it appears our company policies and procedures were not followed, and we have apologized and are actively supporting the customer whose vehicle was affected. valeting your car can be a gamble. even a valet told me that. >> you know you are giving the keys to? it's more like valet parking

7:23 is the official sunrise. starting out here because you can see the moisture around crescent city. looking at perhaps a few showers in the next 24 hours in northern california. but for the bay area, it was 83 yesterday in gilroy. 80 morgan hill. watsonville 81 and records through hollister, 81. today another day with a big ridge of high pressure over us. the high clouds and temperatures about 15 degrees above average. here's a look from emeryville this morning where we do still have plenty of high clouds. 52 half moon bay, 57 in san carlos, 56 san jose, and upper 50s san francisco. from our sutro tower camera, some clear conditions. also high clouds filtering the sky right now. 57 in concord. it's 50 in petaluma with one of the cooler locations in our valley up it the north bay. napa 47 degrees and from our exploratorium come raw looks quiet this saturday. high clouds and mild. 50s and 60s to start out.

record temps. well into the 80s. on shore flow tomorrow and we see temperatures cooler but still above average. here's a look at our water vapor imagery. a ridge of high pressure in the upper levels and mid-levelsful the atmosphere. all of the high level moisture with us, but we don't have the dynamics or a front associated with it to bring any rain. there is a system, a couple of systems to the north and west of us. that will get mount shasta wet tomorrow but for us it means high clouds and summer like warmth today with temperatures perhaps a few records around the bay. so as we go through the next several hours you notice by noontime we are still looking at more clouds in the north bay. it will thin out from time to time in the south bay, and then into later on tonight that will keep up the temperatures. once again 50s. for tomorrow starting out partly cloudy conditions. looking for cooler temperatures with an onshore flow. and the possibility north of the golden gate we could see a stray

shower slip south late in the day tomorrow. you see the green there around cloverdale, santa rosa. but if we do, unremarkable with just a couple hundredths expected. in terms of a statewide forecast it's hot everywhere with 93 los angeles. 87 fresno and san diego. 66 with the clouds in the sierra nevada. and we will be looking at a warm to mild day today for st. patrick's day. follow the green here for the parade, i should say with numbers in the mid-70s. well above average. average high san francisco in the mid-60s. probably won't need much in the way of a jacket. here it is. march temperatures, don't look like it though does it? 82 fremont. 83 san jose and 80 in santa rosa. napa 80. 70 half moon bay, 83 morgan hill and the accuweather seven-day forecast. spring officially arrives next friday but between now and then you will see slightly cooler temperatures still above average. tomorrow we look for temperatures in the 60s and 70s and that's about the

52 half moon bay right now. 56 for you in san jose. so we are starting out warm. you know it's going to be a warm afternoon for the most part. but temperatures will feel like summer today because we can see records once again. 50 petaluma, 57 in concord, 53 santa rosa. and we will be looking at once again high and mid-level clouds filtering the sunshine. today look for low 70s san francisco. near 80 santa rosa, near 80s in the livermore valley but changes occur the second half of the weekend. not only cooler temperatures, we could see a few raindrops. we will talk about that coming up. chris >> thank you. president obama highlighted efforts that are being taken to keep college affordable during his weekly address to america. he's offered a plan to congress to offer two years of free community college. he also included the student aid bill of rights. >> it says every student deserves access to a quality affordable education. every student should be able to access the resource toss pay for

investigation. esef is trying to move on. >> in san francisco, abc7 news. >> a witness who called 911 because of a church fire thursday night in san francisco saw someone helping spread the flames. cell phone video shows this fire in the ocean view neighborhood. the person who called 911 sid someone was using paper to feed the fire before firefighters arrived. the fire reached the church's attic, making it difficult to put out. one firefighter was injured and police have since joined the investigation. dozens of people turned out for a prayer service at a san francisco park where two teens were killed earlier this week. the mother of 18-year-old butler joined dozens of others to remember his -- her son and his friend a 19 year old. they were sitting in the car at the park.

his mother said she wants the violence to stop and plead against any retaliation. generations of sportsman has enjoyed san francisco's pacific rod and gun club but today members will start clearing out the facility as it faces eviction from lake merced. they plan to hold their last club shoot today. it provides a place for skeet shooting but the soil is contaminated from lead and shooting. the 80-year-old club will close on april 8th. in the east bay, a fight over trees. a lawsuit could stop 2,000-acre of tall eucalyptus trees getting cut in clear mont canyon and other nearby canyons. at issue stopping fires from spreading. fema just awarded $6,000 to the service for conversation management. the agency is suing the agency.

firehouse is built a few miles away. laura anthony has the sorry from orinda. >> the cost of fire protection is expensive. >> the orinda fire chief said it's a plan that makes sense for his district and the neighboring community of lafayette. billed one new station that would serve the north side of both cities. >> in the past the distribution of mutual and automatic aid between the communities was 2 to 1. but now it's much more even in the distribution. >> this is a station that would be moved nestled in the hills in north or. movement da more than 50 years. while they acknowledge station 43 doesn't get a lot of calls they certainly don't want it to go away. >> our concern is the increase in response time. orinda, the north part, is already not well served by the

>> i really don't know how the back end works and how these hackers work. but it's very scary. >> experts say hackers gain access through weak passwords. she kept getting messages from google that her password has been changed. >> it says your password was changed 19 hours ago. i didn't change my pass word. >> experts say you need a complex password. >> if it's something so hard you need to write it down, you are probably going in the right direction. >> the hackers took control of her e-mail and sent a malicious attachment to all of her contacts. google disabled her account and stopped the spread of the potential virus. they said it uses a form of artificial intelligence to identify suspicious behavior. >> if somebody tries to access an account that's not the norm not the usual access patterns, that puts us on higher alert. >> she tried to access her g mail again through her security

questions and could not and that's bus the hackers changed her questions too. >> i just hit the wall. there was no fixing. >> mark overseas the prevention of spam and abuse at google. he said the company is phasing out the use of security questions. >> there's been problems where the security question was something that could be maybe researched online or even guessed. so right now we favor a much more dynamic approach. >> the new approach is for you to give your e-mail provider an alternative way of contacting you. that can be a phone number or a secondary e-mail. google sent her a link to recover her account to that secondary e-mail but she said she never received it. >> i feel like a prisoner trapped. >> frustrated she contacted "7 on your side." >> luckily, thank you very much. i immediately got some response. >> google won't discuss her case, but she's happy her account is finally restored. >> your people contacted google and got me some support.
