ha >> good morning, it's sunday march 15th. i'm chris nguyen in for carolyn tyler. let's start off with a quick look at the forecast. lisa argen also has the day off so we will send it over to frances dinglasan. good morning. >> good morning. we broke quite a few records yesterday. check out san jose. yesterday we hit 89. the record beat 81 degrees in 2004. and we broke quite a few in many locations. now high pressure is starting to weaken, so we probably won't break any record highs today. check out how warm it is this morning. we're already in the 60s in many

locations. it's probably feel a little muggy if you are going out for your morning jog. 65 san jose. not as warm today but i'll talk about a chance of rain coming up. chris. >> thank you. see you soon. this morning chp investigators are still trying to determine the exact cause of a traffic collision in the east bay this led to a deadly pileup this killed one person, and injured six others, one critically. 16 cars, eight in each collision, were involved in the collision this slowed traffic to a crawl in alameda county in livermore. lisa amin gulezian has the latest. >> they were getting calls of 15 to 16 vehicles. >> this is what emergency crews rolled up to. mangled metal. cars piled up on top of each other and broken glass spilled across the highway. it started when a few cars rear ended each other east of the

north flynn road exit. no one was seriously hurt but then the backup started and that's when the real trouble began. >> when i see the whole back broken off and oh wow. we just kind of panic and jump out. >> one by one the cars piled up again. this time the damage was worse. >> we have about seven vehicles in this collision. we have one fatality one critical injury that was life flighted and five other just minor injuries. >> the man in the base truck died at the scene. medics tried to revive him but couldn't. his passenger was airlifted to a medical center and the others were taken to hospitals in stockton and tracy. emergency responders admit the heavy traffic held them up as well. >> it was very difficult to get here. once we got here and we realized it was multiple vehicles, it wasn't just it 3 or 4. we saw 8 here and 8 below. >> they blamed speed and

inattentive drivers for the chain reaction. in livermore, lisa amin gulezian abc7 fuss. a contra costa sheriffs deputy likely saved dozens of teenagers when he noticed their tour bus was on fire. he saw fire come from the bus at walnut creek around 8:30 last night. he made sure everyone got out safely. the kids were from out-of-state and on a field trip. 7 were taken to the hospital to check out for months possible smoke inhalation. no one else was hurt. it may have been faulty wiring in the attic that sparked a two-alarm fire and displacing two people. a neighbor caught these flames leaping from the house on rose creek drive on his cell phone. fire again at 9:00 last night and out about 30 miles later. they managed to keep the flames contained to the attic. no injuries were reported but the damage was pretty extensive. the two residents of the home

will be staying with relatives >> four san francisco police officers are under investigation for racist and homophobic text messages by text that the chief calls disgrateful. the messages are full of slurs against black, hispanic and people. it was after a hearing. the public defender is calling for an independent investigation. >> we are going to have to look at all the cases that these officers were involved in. one of the things we are entitled to under the law is evidence of racial bay as. it could have wide ranging effects on our case, as well as the criminal justice system. >> the chief said he reassigned all four officers to positions with no public contact. he will seek nothing less than termination for conduct and character in compatible with

being a police officer. bay area native and seattle seahawks running back mr. sean lynch was caught on video trying to break up a fight outside a nightclub on friday. this is lynch on the baseball cap on a sidewalk in front of infusion lounge on ellis street. a man with lynch got into a fight with a heckler who called lynch a seahawk chicken. he then left the scene. marshawn grew up in oakland and went to ac berkeley. a 41-year-old man was rush to a hospital but died friday night. >> why did you have to do that to him? >> friends and family of 41-year-old jimenez led people to the spot where he was shot by police. his mother and sister say this

wasn't the first time police had been to third home. >> they had been there a couple weeks ago? >> yes and found nothing. >> and found nothing. >> and they came back again? >> and found nothing. >> following the shooting napa police chief steve potter immediately expressed remorse that officers shot someone. >> for us the incidents are always tragic. it didn't matter who the individual is who is involved in it. we don't like to see the loss of life. >> police were serving a search warrant at jimenez's home for drugs and gun. officers say when he crashed his vehicle officers saw a handgun on him. they believe he was about to reach for it. one policeman fired three times. they say a handgun was found on scene. his family and friends said he did have several run-ins with the law and wasn't a bad person and always had time for his nieces and nephews. >> won't be as athletic and who i am if it wasn't for him. >> the fatal shooting is being investigated by the napa sheriff's department. police officers involved have

been placed on paid administrative leave. in napa, sergio quintana abc7 news >> we have new news on the teenager severely beaten. we spoke to the father of 17 year old christian radar and satellitener last night. he said christian is showing improvement and responding to his parents' voices. christian has been in a medically induced coma since wednesday. he was attacked in the parking lot. they have surveillance photos of the suspects from inside the mall but the images have not been released. >> dozens gathered yesterday to celebrate the life of a mother when was shot and killed while protecting her kids from gunfire. family and friends came out to honor her and condemn weapons and violence. the 34-year-old woman was caught in the crossfire in front of her home. one was charged with her murder

and police are searching for additional suspects. a nearly three-year search for a missing morgan hill teenager has ended. investigators say they have exhausted all leads in the search offensive zone sear lamar who was last seen in 2012. dozens have gotherd to search for her. >> instead of regularly-scheduled searches, we will be operating on call. if we get tips or leads that justify another search we are readily. >> anthony torres is in jail for abducting her. he does have a trial date. a woman sneaked on to the parent last week. she slipped past the checkpoint to reach the opposite side from

the terminal. she waved her arms at a plane. she's homeless and was living on a shelter. she tried to stow away to get back to her nature i have guatemala. they say the security worked because they were able to prevent her from further access. in his first state of the city address, san jose mayor promise today increase public safety keep kids off the streets, a dress the homeless problem. >> we can do more to grab san jose's share. we've reached out to manufacturers, brokers and industry to enable tech manufacturers to overcome the challenges they experience in finding sites, face and skills to grow here. >> yesterday's speech was held at a school gym on a weekend so more people could attend than in years past. it also featured performance business local artists and

>> time is 5:13. we are taking a live look from our east bay hills camera this morning pointed at the bay bridge. coming off a very warm saturday but how warm will it get today? we will check in with frances dinglasan coming up in a little bit. an unarmed buy racial wisconsin teenager shot to death by police have been buried in his hometown of madison. hundreds of people attended the funeral service for 19-year-old tony robinson. on march 6th he was shot and killed by a police officer who said robinson assaulted him. this is the latest killing by police nationwide of that caused

racial passion. those who knew him said robinson made mistakes in the past but he was on his which to a brighter future. one urged kids in the action to get an education and take action in robinson's memory. the violence in ferguson missouri will be the topic on "this week" with george. it airs at 8:00 right here on abc7 following if morning america. >> paying your bills on line could be easier than writing out checks but it could be easier to make a mistake. a bay area woman paid thousands of company to the company and couldn't get it back until "7 on your side" michael finney stepped in. >> patricia still likes a good old-fashioned newspaper. >> i get my coffee and go out and get the paper and sit and read for half an hour knowledge for the past 30 years she

send her a check for $2800. but weeks passed and still no refund. she called the paper again. >> oh just wait. just wait a while. you know, it should come. so it didn't come and didn't come. >> now patricia got worried. maybe the check got lost or stolen. >> i culled them again. can you put a stop on this check in can you just credit my account? oh, no we don't do that. >> she kept calling the 800 number and getting the same promise of a check. >> i said who am i talking to? what state are you in or where are you? they wouldn't tell me that. they just didn't take it seriously. it was like it was no big deal. >> patricia never did get that check. she contacted "7 on your side." we contacted "the mercury news" and immediately patricia got a call. >> we are sorry for the inconvenience. >> they quickly issued this credit to patricia's bank account telling us it took longer than it should have to refund the money and we apologize for the delay.

many locations. we are starting off this morning with live doppler 7hd showing us a lot of cloud cover with some slightly muggy conditions. i'll tell you why. a live shot from our kgo roof camera looking down toward the embarcadero, the bay bridge and the ferry building. temperatures right now pretty mild and san francisco is currently 61. check out san carlos, 64. 65 degrees in san jose. things will be changing this afternoon. here we are looking live from the exploratorium camera toward the transamerica tower. there are high clouds in the distance but visibility not affected at this point. santa rosa 52. napa 53. that's some of our cooler locks. check out concord. already at 62 degrees, as well. from sutro we see the camera bouncing a little bit, but really winds are light everywhere else. we could see slightly breezier conditions in the higher elevations. so high clouds throughout the day. it will be muggy this morning.

no record warmth expected to the. we probably won't hid the mid-80s like yesterday. then a mild dry pattern the next seven days. unfortunately not such rain in sight. but here's what's going on. with this satellite image >> we have two areas of high pressure. that has kept the rain to the north. however, the high pressure will weaken later on today and this evening. so we could see some sprinkles move as far south to some of our very north bay locations maybe the very northern part and maybe some of the higher elevations. but it will probably be only sprinkles at best overnight. relativerelative humidity as you notice the winds were coming from the southwest. this is helping bring in some moisture. relative humidity in santa rosa is 93. 83 napa. other locations 40 to 60% relative humidity. highs today very comfortable and warm once again. in fact probably little more

comfortable. san jose 79. we will see the passing high clouds as well. on the peninsula look for comfortable numbers at the coast. 60 pacifica. and ranging from low to upper 70s on the peninsula. san francisco hitting a high of 72 today. so that's twelve degrees cooler compared to yesterday's high of 84. and look for temperatures in the 70s throughout many locations in the north bay, like sonoma and napa. low to mid-70s, as well, near richmond and oakland. then we will see the upper 70s in the inland areas with lots of filtered sunshine through the afternoon. here's the accuweathersen day forecast. we have winter warmth. it's hard to believe with these temperatures that it's actually still winter. we will be cooling just a bit by a couple degrees. and then a nice, mild day for st. patrick's day. very little change throughout the week with mild averages as well. on thursday spring officially begins on friday. partly cloudy conditions on saturday. and mostly cloudy conditions

? good offensive zone of to have you here this sunday morning. i'm chris nguyen. kaelin tyler has the day off. and frances dinglasan is here for lisa argen. >> a great day to take the day off because we will see beautiful weather this sunday. a lot of cloud cover to start. we will see some filtered sunshine this afternoon. temperatures right now quite mild for this time in the morning. we are seeing a lot of 60s out there. 62 concord and hayward. 65 in san jose. 66 in los gatos. yes, it's winter and it's still at the 5:00 a.m. hour and we are are already seeing 60s. here's what you can expect for the rest of the day around the bay. temperatures will be mild to start this morning. we will see those clouds. and then by noon we will start to see more breaks in the sunshine. but high clouds will be passing through. we will be warming up into the mid-70s today around the bay instead of the 80s we saw yesterday. but high pressure is weakening

and on shore flow returns and i'll let you know what that does to our temperatures over the next few days, chris. thank you. the cdc is rushing ten americans home from africa where they may have been exposed to ebola. they are star of the same aid group. >> at the nebraska center in only hu they are preparing to take in some of the americans being rushed home from west africa. one of three medical centers will be closely monitored for symptoms of ebola. >> nebraska, maryland and atlanta. they will be under quarantine and if they get a fever they will be immediately isolated. >> an american health worker was brought to bethesda maryland. the new patience may have been exposed to that worker. >> at some point the healthcare worker fainted and some provided assistance and they all lived in close quarters together in sierra leone. >> the ten people coming home now are not ill and not contagious and require none of the elaborate precautions

of a fatal train collision in kentucky. you can see a car drove on to the tracks in louisville just as the train was coming yesterday afternoon. wow. the car was dragged a half-mile before the train could stop. two people were killed and two others injured. a glen-out tire on united airlines flight triggered on emergency landing yesterday. the terrified passengers told to brace for a rocky touchdown. the tire blew off during take off. the plane had to burn off fuel before it could land safely. thankfully no one was hurt. a new government study benefits the price of high test scans over basic physical tests with people with chest pains. only 10% of doctors use treadmill tests, an effective way to detect symptoms of heart disease. all were given high radiation ct scans or echo cardiograms. they found people who received the pricey scans had no less risk of heart attack or dying

oakland beat a record. san francisco hit 84 degrees yesterday, beating a record of 81 set in 2007. now here's a look at live temperatures. very very mild with san carlos and san jose in the mid-60s. half moon bay, though, still at 55 degrees. this time from the exploratorium we are looking out toward parts of the financial area, the transamerica tower, and it is currently 52 in santa rosa. so some cool spots in parts of the north by. concord 62 degrees right now. from sutro looking down toward beautiful san francisco we see the wind causing the camera to shake just a touch. but winds will be light and you might notice some more in the higher elevations. so we have high clouds, kind of a muggy morning to start off with. no record warmth today. the 80s and 90s are gone, but we see a mild dry pattern over the next seven days. so here's what's going on. we have two areas of high pressure. this has helped keep the rain to

our north with the stationary front. but the high pressure will start to weaken tonight. so we could see some rain spread as far south as some of our northern-most counties. but it will be light sprinkles at best, possibly overnight. so today we will start off with the high clouds. we will see some filtered sunshine throughout the afternoon. and then clouds will make their which back tonight. here's a look at the temperatures today. so you notice we are going to come down by about 10 to 15 degrees in quite a few locations. san jose still warm at 79. 78 in sunnyvale, and a nice beachdy in santa cruz with 71 degrees there. look for low 70s through millbrae and san mateo to upper 60s in palo alto. san francisco, 72. so still well above average. but much cooler compared to yesterday. and a lot of 70s through parts of the north bay petaluma, novato. low 70s through napa, as well.
