they are checking that building every hour for any flareups and they still have the hose drawn. just in case. c.h.p. is investigating the cause of an accident in hayward after an s.u.v. hit a woman and her baby. c.h.p. said the woman pushing a her one-year-old in a stroller was struck in the crosswalk by a white s.u.v. at 7:00. she was trying to cross the northbound 880 on-ramp and vehicles speed up to get on to the highway. the woman and her baby are in critical condition with major head injuries and the streetlight was out and that may have been a contributing factor. c.h.p. said the driver of the s.u.v. is cooperating. >> a san francisco zoo employee union is calling for an investigation over claims employee radios were rigged to spy on private connections. the union said that radios belonging to the executive director and vice president of operations had a feature which

allowed them to listen in on employee conversations. the zoo's executive director said the feature was actually designed to help in medical and safety emergencies and when she learned of the capability she had it disabled. the union learned about it from a non-union member of management. >> authorities are looking into the death of a 55-year-old kayak or with the body found before 6:00 last night. crews raced to a distress call of two kayakers stranded in the ocean. one man made it safely to store and crews spotted the other's bed on the beach. he did not have a life vote on. fatigue may have been a factor. >> the woman shot and killed by san francisco police has a warrant for her arrest. the "san francisco chronicle" said the 4-year-old alice brown abandon the her court mandated drug treatment program on monday.
