years old and is in critical condition. officers think they know who is responsible but they haven't caught that person yet. one of four san francisco police officers accused of sending racist text messages has resigned. michael robessen stepped down yesterday. this is a picture of the veteran when he was featured on the cover of the magazine in 1998. he had been transferred from the special victim's unit while the text investigation was underway. as many as 13 other officers remain under investigation for offensive texts. >> one of three suspects charged with murdering an oakland mother during a shooting was in court today. a judge postponed anthony simms case last week. the 19-year-old admitted to being involved in west oakland that killed 30-year-old schlemeel pierce. she had just parked her car and was walking her two kids home. she died protecting her children from the crossfire with her own

body. the suspect's mother says she's praying for pierce's family. >> for our children, i know how i feel i have grandchildren and everything. and children myself. >> two other suspects are facing homicide charges in the case. >> a man has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a young boy in east oakland in late january. miguel barajas was taken into custody dus, police believe he lured a boy and sexually assaulted him near 98th avenue and d streets january 27th. >> we're hopeful that we can put some of the children, parents, families at ease knowing there's one less child predator out there on the streets with this arrest. >> sky 7 hd shows us the area where the sexual assault happened. he made his first court appearance today and is being held in the county jail. two people escaped a burning building in napa, tonight investigators are trying to figure out how that fire started. two apartment units were

destroyed in the fire on brown street. residents nearby say the flames last night were huge. >> it was really a full range fire, i couldn't believe it. you see it on tv all the time. >> it was amazing. >> one firefighter was injured, fire officials say it looked like part of the building was under construction. a devastating fire in san francisco's mission district last week has claimed another life. abc 7 news, 13-year-old amalshiebi died last night at san francisco general hospital. she was a member of a family of five who lived at an apartment on 24th and tree streets when it caught fire. she had been in a coma since that fire. her father died over the weekend from his injuries caused by the fire. three surviving members of the family have been treated and released from the hospital. in the past six months there have been three massive fires in san francisco's mission district. two of them deadly as we've been

telling you, and the fires have raised a lot of questions. abc 7 news reporter carolyn tyler joins us now from city hall. a hearing on this was held today. carolyn? >> supervisor campo says he's been attending a lot of community meetings about this fires and everyone is asking why. >> quite frankly, you know there's a lot of suspicion on the part of some folks? arson, is there any kind of malfeasance. san francisco supervisor is talking about the disturbing pattern of fires that has stunned his mission district constituents. in september, flames engulfed a three story building at # 23rd and mission in january an inferno at 22nd and mission killed a man and left more than 50 residents homeless. earlier this month another fatal fire at 24th and treat. supervisor campos held a hearing today to look for answers. joanne hayes white and her experts say the fires are all

still under investigation. but there is a possible answer to the one at 22nd and mission. >> we did find evidence of electrical cause four that fire. >> while the investigations continue, a new concentrated effort has been launched by the department of building inspections to examine 126 multifamily buildings along a 6 1/2 mile stretch of mission street. from third to geneva. to see if there are code violations. >> these are typically what we call nonrated wood construction buildings that don't have the same fireproofing that a new building would have if you look at the construction of the walls and those type of things. it's important to make sure the amenities they are required to have are fully functional. >> property owners of three buildings were determined to be repeat violators. housing inspectors say this man had padlocked the gate to a safety exit. those cases were turned over to

the city attorney for action earlier this week in san francisco carolyn tyler, abc 7 news. authorities are investigating whether a car ran a stop sign before slamming into a bus in antioch. the impact sent the bus flying up a small hill. sky 7 hd was over the crash at about 5:45 this morning. the five passengers suffered minor injuries, the bus driver was not hurt but was badly shaken, the driver of the car died from the injuries. >> a class action lawsuit was filed today against more than two dozen california wineries, alleging their products contain alarmingly high amounts of arsenic. that's according to a lab that tested some of the most popular discount wines commonly available in supermarkets. according to the group beverage grade, they found high amounts upwards of four times the federal limit of the poisonous con tammen ant in some bottles.

some of the brands named in the suit sutter homes cupcake and betteringer wines. >> consumers may be buying cheap wines, wines that cost less than $5 a bottle they may be paying with their health. >> the california wine industry refuted those claims about high levels of arsenic. we believe this is misleading and all wines sold in the u.s. marketplace are safe. janet napolitano is apologizing for a comment she made she probably thought was private. it happened during a protest at yesterday's uc regions meeting. >> the exchange was caught on a video stream. students were protesting planned tuition increases. at the meeting, governor brown and napolitano said they were not ready to take any action

breaking news from palo alto. police are investigating the deaths of two people at a home believed to be homicides. police initially received the

report of a possible suicide from a firearm. it may have been a domestic murder suicide. the investigation just getting underway. authorities say they are not actively searching for any suspects at this moment. >> more than a dozen dogs arrived in the bay area today from south korea. the fcca says those dogs were rescued from a dog farm. abc 7 news reporter vick lee joins us from the newsroom with the story. >> every year according to the humane society international, some 2 million dogs are killed in south korea. there are hundreds of dog meat farms raising thousands of canines, this is the second time the humane society has convinced a korean dog meat farmer to quit, to switch to raising to growing produce, now in this operation, they rescued 57 dogs from one farm. they hope this will be a new beginning. >> their eyes are down cast,

most seem terrified, uncertain of where they are. >> this one is afraid to get out. maybe he thinks he's going to the market for slaughter, some are puppies like this cute little one. many are bigger almost all are a type of korean mastiv mix. the last 15 of the 57 rescue dogs arrives at the san francisco spca today after a long 11 hour flight from seoul. >> some of these dogs as you see are very friendly most of them are completely docile. >> none of the dogs appears to be suffering from major injuries. >> we're just seeing certain nutritional issues and trying to get them into a better food source. other than that, they're in pretty good condition. the dogs are destined for a market like this one, where people buy meat and produce dog meat is considered to be healthy, especially during the summer. they're killed by electrocution beaten to death or hanged. >> it's primarily the older population that consumes dog

meat. most of the younger population is not -- does not consume the meat and they're not interested in consuming it. >> adam is with humane society international. he was in charge of the rescue. >> the conditions on the farm are really deplorable. they never clean the cages, dogs live in darkness very dark small cages, no heating. >> the farmer agreed to shut down his dog farm. >> he's going to go into an animal -- excuse me, into agriculture. i believe he's going to grow chile peppers that's what he expressed tos. >> the dogs will be quarantined for about a week. they will be spayed or neutered, then they will be ready for adoption. dogs should be friends not food. vic lee abc 7 news. a fourth rabid bat has been found in alameda county, this one on private property last

saturday, three other bats already have been found in freemont two of them near nils elementary school. the department says it's rare to have this cluster so early in the year. last year, only two bats tested positive for ray bees. if you find a dead bat two not touch it call animal control services or vector control immediately, let them deal with it. a man is accused of making threats on social media against a sheriff's deputy. he was arrested at his home. he made this comment on facebook facebook, i am so tired of this police harassment. one day i will go 5150 on all these sheriffs. 5150 refers to the police code for a person suspected of having a mental disorder. hmb is half moon bay. he threatened to plant a bomb in a squad car. monica lewinsky is stepping

into the public arena again to fight the growing problem of online shaming. she made a rare public appearance at a conference in vancouver today, the video is not public yet but her words are getting a lot of social media support. she calls herself patient zero for what's now been known as cyber bullying. she made a mistake when she had an affair with president clinton forcing her into the public spotlight. the death of tyler clement tay was a turning point for her. he committed suicide after his roommate posted an intimate video with her and another man. she wants to push for more empathy online. at the age of 22 i fell in love with my boss. and at the age of 24 i learned the devastating consequences. i was brandsed as a tramp tart, slut, whore bimbo and that woman. i was seen by many but known by few. public shaming is a blood sport

it has to stop. a proposed state law would make it mandatory for adults to wear helmets while cycling, some question whether it will make much of a difference. >> under the current proposal adults would be fined $25 for not wearing helmets. some say california needs this law, while others believe it's just not something that makes sense at all. >> this man experienced what no cyclist ever wants to experience. >> i slid into an oncoming car, i hit my head and the helmet exploded. >> a proposed state law would make california the first state in the country to require that all adults wear helmets while riding their bikes. advocacy groups believe the proposed law could actually discourage bicycling.

and the station invest in making the street safer. this section of lincoln avenue was just converted to one lane in each direction as part of a test run. trainers say they've already noticed a difference. >> it causes people to be a little more cautious and aware of their surroundings, mainly the bike lane everyone knows the bike lane -- it's one more thing you have to look out for. definitely a benefit as far as safety goes. >> they could also affect efforts such as the bay area bike share. a regional pilot program in five bay area cities. a half million trips since launching less than two years ago, he works in the e.r. where more than 150 patients are admitted each year after being injured in a bike accident. many who weren't wearing helmets. >> the ones that don't can have serious head trauma including bleeding in the brain long term concussions, and even chronic disabilities, like inability to

much of the upper part of the old bay bridge is almost gone. after the top of the bridge is demolished, work will begin on removing the foundation. wouldn't it be nice to fill up the old suv for 20 bucks? that's what some drivers got to do today at this gas station in san francisco's mission district. all stars gas was selling fuel for 85 cents a gallon it was select fuel. it was made up of 85% ethanol manufactured from corn. the one day promotion was to commemorate the very first flex steal gas pumps in san
