good saturday morning to you. i'm chris nguyen. weatherwise we're waking up to some cooler temperatures and light rain. here is meteorologist lisa argen with a first look at doppler 7 hd. good morning to you. here is live doppler 7 hd. we're looking at the cloud cover, and if you are waking up to those showers consider yourself one of the lucky ones. it's more like fog from san a at that row sais a to our coast with over a mile and a quarter of visibility. it is limited. that's why we have airport delays of about 30 minutes. here is mt. tamm. some hazy sunshine around the bay. we had a spotty shower around the airport earlier. right now it's 53 in san jose with 55 in san carlos. cloudy skies in san jose.

this will be a sun krer location today with temperatures coming up. your forecast today calls for cooler numbers, still above average, 60s to 70s. a light rain shower is possible in the morning hours. we'll talk more in detail about that coming up. chris? lisa, thank you. developing news this morning. at least two people are dead following an apartment fire in oakland. the fire started just before 4:00 inside a large building that used to be a warehouse on 24th street. this location is very close to interstate 980. flames quickly spread to an aja adjacent building at around 3:40 this morning. both buildings share an attic. fire officials say the flames forced more than 30 people from their homes. no word yet on how the fire started. a former san francisco firefighter will not be facing any drunk driving charges after an on duty crash that nearly killed a motorcyclist. this comes after a judge stunned prosecutors citing a lack of evidence to go forward with the ui case. the i-team followed this story for nearly two years.

abc 7 news reporter sergio quintana explains its latest terms. >> reporter: this is the graphic video of that crash motorcyclist jack frazier has the green light. the fire truck driven by michael quinn has emergency lights and sirens on, but doesn't slow down to make sure the intersection is clear. the 32-ton ladder truck slams into frazier, his motorcycle and his body fly into the curb and hydrant. i talked with frazier's attorney by phone. >> i'm extremely disappointed and angry. >> reporter: chuck co-voe akoro is suing the city of san francisco and michael quinn who has since quit the fire department. quinn had been facing felony dui charges, but there were problems with the evidence. the judge dismissed breathalyzer tests given by quinn's fellow firefighters after the crash because their equipment was not properly calibrated. on that meant police officers had no probable cause to arrest quinn and administer a blood test which was not useful

because blood was not drawn until six hours after the crash. phrasefrazier frazier's attorney questioned why are he didn't face different charges. >> they never charge edd him with felony hit-and-run which, to me, was a slam dunk. >> reporter: witnesses told our i-team the bar and pub has surveillance of him being given lots of water inside the business, possibly by fellow firefighters. koro tells me quinn didn't return to talk with san francisco police for two hours. the san francisco district attorney's office issued a short statement. we completely disagree with this decision and are exploring all appellate options. quinn had been out on bail and walked out of court a free man. sernlg yes quintana, abc 7 news. 8:03 is our time. an uber driver was beaten earlier this week. the driver was standing outside his car early wednesday morning at 10th avenue and gary boulevard. he was surrounded by four men

one of them even punched the driver in the face. the group then stole the man's toyota corolla and crashed it a block away. police say the suspect who hit the driver was later arrested while waiting for another uber ride. two additional suspects have also been arrested. tragedy in the south bay. campbell police believe a man was drunk when he hit and killed his own stepdaughter in their driveway. he is now under arrest as the family mourns the loss of a woman who would have been celebrating her 42nd birthday. abc 7 news reporter aty marzullo has more. i keep thinking i'll wake up. >> reporter: fan ses handl witnessed it. >> i was right there. it was like dad, what are you doing? this haunts me. >> reporter: frances says her husband, filip handl had been drinking all day. when he got home just before

5:00 thursday evening, leslie was in the driveway trying to guide him into a parking spot. the family says handl hit the gas instead of the brake and ran over leslie. she died at the hands of the man who raised her. >> he never intended to do it, but it's done and it can't be taken back. i lost my daughter. >> reporter: police say handl was drunk. >> based on his statements and the investigation, it became very apparent that he understood the potential consequences of driving drunk. >> the only reason i'm doing this is it if someone thinks they can have one or two beers and drive down the street pull into their driveway without any consequence, think again. think again. >> reporter: leslie's family planning a funeral instead of a birthday party n. campbell katie marzullo, abc 7 news. palo alto police are trying to find a motive of a murder.

the victims have not been identified but police say he found a man in his 70s shot to death inside the complex office. another man in his 60s was found in the elevator with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. police say they both lived in the low-income senior apartments. and neighbors say one of the men was the manager. police say violent crimes in this complex are highly unusual. an east bay school put on lockdown following a shooting. one person was shot near el cerrito high school yesterday afternoon sending poelice on a house-to-house search. abc 7 news reporter alan wang has the story. out of nowhere all you hear is pow-po with ww-pow, gunshots going off. >> reporter: police say a 19 year 19-year-old man was shot twice it at the corner of lincoln and ash bury avenue right in front of the school. hernandez overheard a security guard responding. >> he said i smell gunpowder. i see blood everywhere.

i got more and more scared. as soon as i said that okay we're on lockdown. >> reporter: witnesses say two el cerrito high school students were there when the gunfire erupted. both were detained for questioning. >> in a position to provide us information about exactly what did occur because our victim has been unwilling it to provide us information how this altercation started. >> reporter: the victim refused aid and took himself to the hospital where police followed up with him. they're also looking for two to four other young men believed to be involved. >> i don't care. >> reporter: nervous parents were reunited with their kids around 5:00. in el cerrito alan wang abc 7 news. the bicyclist robbed after being hit by a truck in west oakland two months ago is out of a coma and speaking. 25-year-old greg lowery suffered severe head trauma and had been comatose since the accident happened january 13. he emerged from the coma three

weeks ago and thursday began talking again. these photos are from our media partners at bay area news group. they show lauowery awake with his mom. the story attracted widespread attention when lowery was pickpocketed while lying in the street critically injured. the 80-year-old driver who hit him was also robbed. no arrests have been made. a shocking discovery at a south bay high school after students found a body in an outdoor swimming pool. this morning investigators are still trying to figure out what happened. >> reporter: in east san jose a community in disbelief at piedmont hills high school. >> the first thing going through my head was it a murder? was it an accident? that's what i was wopdering. >> reporter: many students with lots of questions after a body was discovered on campus. >> as the students and the staff were taking off the pool covers a body was found at the bottom of the deep end of the diving pool. >> reporter: san jose police responded just before 9:00.

the superintendent of the east side union high school district tells abc 7 news the pool is locked up after swim prakctice before second period physical education classes came in. >> an intentional effort to -- for someone to climb over the fence and get into the pool. >> reporter: a look shows the scene below. first responders say the body was found fully clothed and weighted down. fire officials had to use specialized urban search and rescue equipment to raise the body of an adult male out of the water. investigators trying to determine if this incident was suspicious in nature. students simply puzzled by with a they saw. >> it is very shocking. i was a little bit scared because i thought this would be a student i knew. >> reporter: des triktistrict ladiers said it was not a student or staff member. grief counselors were brought in. >> we did not know how long it would take to come and remove the body and do their investigation, so we felt we wanted to give the fire department and the coroner's office plenty of space and time

to take care of business. >> reporter: the santa clara coroner's office is yet to release the man's identity. surveillance video has been turned over to police for processing. as regular commuters have been noticing big changes are happening to the old eastern span. here is the view from the end of the pedestrian walkway on the new span of 1,400-foot gap that widens a little bit every day. most of the upper portion of the old bridge should be gone by 2018. caltrans awarded a demolition contract to an engineering firm to take down most of the steel struck you tourture structure. by next year the pedestrian walkway will link treasure island with the east bay. what can we expect for the weekend, lisa? >> we have a nice looking shot from our camera . you can see the lau clouds here and mt. diablo in the background. good morning to you. cloudy skies. livermore is at 55.

authorities in brooklyn, new york, say seven people are dead, seven children are dead following an early morning house fire that broke out at around 12:30 eastern time. fire officials say the kids who died are between the ages of 5 and 15 years old and are believed to be family members. two other people were critically injured. 100 firefighters were called to respond. they blaefb a malfunctioning hot plate caused the fire. dozens of gang member are now behind bars following a major bust in san jose. the arrests revealed how gang leaders in prison were profiting from crime on the street. abc 7 news reporter david louie

has the story. >> reporter: the crimes were happening here but the orders were coming from 400 miles to the north from behind the walls at pelican bay state prison. that's where three so-called generals of the nuestra familia street gang were calling the shots. >> they went so far as to say this is how you do a killing, this is how you do a robbery. and these were directed from behind the walls of the jail of the prison. >> reporter: they were written in code and smuggled out in the body cavities of inmates leaving on parole. known as kites they were found in possession of one of the top street gang leaders in san jose. >> we've written hundreds of these communications that had never been seen on this level and in this depth. it was so ex mrisplicit that we actually have the three generals behind the walls at pelican bay in writing and with their signature on very specific gang directives that were in the possession of one of our arrested suspects. >> reporter: the nuestra familia gang memts had nicknames such as pistol, monster and bam-bam. six are still at-large.

there was an organized chain of command. they seized cash, drugs and guns. they were selling meth for thousands of dollars. a percentage of crime proceeds along with protection money paid to the gang made its way into nuestra familia's leadership behind bars. the multiagency task force beliefs it has put a dent in gang operations in san jose after one of its leaders decided to co-opoperate and reveal the gang's internal workings. >> we have so many cooperators and source documents and history with this gang that we hopefully are deterring them from putting down a foothold in the city ever again. >> reporter: the gang members go on trial starting april 13. in san jose, david louie, abc 7 news. our time is 8:16. no questions asked. that's the promise from san francisco police who will be holding a gun buy back later today. the buyback program will pay

laura anthony abc 7 news. a traffic alert for you this weekend. oakland's big running festival is taking place. tomorrow's marathon will take runners from downtown to the oakland hills. there's also a half marathon portion happening. nearly 10,000 people will be running on sunday. you can expect quite a few road closures throughout the morning. and weatherwise, lisa, bring those jackets out to the event right? yeah. it's going to be more of a springlike weekend and that's apropos. this is the first weekend of spring so that means maybe a few showers, cooler temperatures, and no 80s to speak of until how about the middle of next week. yes, they're coming back but in the short term we've already had a light shower at the airport and reduced visibility. right now live doppler 7 hd shows the cloud cover over parts of the bay but most of you waking up to partly cloudy skies and we are looking at about 2 1/2-mile visibility getting a little bit better by the coast and a we're mile up in santa

rosa rosa. nine miles around petaluma. so we're looking at two weak systems. the first one allowing for more low cloudiness. here is the view from mt. tamm. you can see that marine layer. looking at 53 in san jose. moregan hill 47. so not much of a change for our south bay and our east bay val valleys here. you're looking at sunshine now. but by the coast and our north bay communities, the peninsula, it will be cooler and cloudier. 58 in concord. santa rosa temperatures over ten degrees milder than yesterday at this time. there is what is left over of that shower at sfo and they had delays of about 30 minutes. a few sprinkles, a light shower this morning. overall we'll dry out and brighten up this afternoon. a wamer erwarmer day will be today. the sunnier one tomorrow. look for more clouds, a better chance of rain throughout the entire bay. we're talking about a tenth to better than that in some spots

and then we'll return to the 80s by the middle of the week. here is the view from our east bay hills camera. you can see the cloud cover. here is a look at where we should be. averages low to upper 60s. so mid-60s. and here is where the temperatures will probably be at about 3:00 this afternoon. another four to six degrees above average. it is cooler than yesterday. here is the first weak front that is just offshore and providing some cloud cover, a better onshore push slightly cooler today. and the cloud cover will hang around the coast, also the peninsula. elsewhere a brighter day today and tomorrow this system pushes through. we'll see that slight chance of showers sunday and early monday. and this is how this forecast model sees it. less than a tenth of an inch. the darker shading indicating we could see better than that so today a dry day in the south bay with some sunshine. we'll call it partly sunny.

san francisco delays in about 30 minutes. a look at the beach where highs will be in the upper 60s. so that's cooler but we will look for more sunshine south and east bay. north bay cooler conditions. 49 in santa rosa. you do have the fog. so the next couple of hours notice the fog back by about 10:00. a cloudy coast and temperatures today still on the cooler side here but notice the 70s returning for the east bay valleys, the south bay. we'll talk about the better chance of rain which heads your way tomorrow in a few minutes. chris? lisa, thank you. in your national news president obama urged the senate to take action on his pick to be the next attorney general nominating loretta lynch as the top law enforcement officer last fall. mr. obama has singled out republican leaders in his weekly video address which came out this morning. >> it has been more than four months since i nominated loretta lynch to serve is as attorney general. and this time republican leaders

in congress won't even let her nomination come up for a vote. >> senate majority leader mitch mcconnell is holding up lynch's confirmation vote until lawmakers can agree on a bill to combat human trafficking. that bill is stalled on party lines over abortion fund inging. the oakland city council signed off on a new exclusive negotiating agreement to move forward on the long-awaited coliseum city project. the plan calls for building a new home for the raiders and possibly the athletics and the warriors. this has gaern tease to provide job training for local residents residents. the alameda county supervisors will look at the job tuesday. if that panel approves it, the current developer would have until august to work out a long-term deal. community activists will hold a prayer service and walk tonight to mark the shoot inging death of

a man by san francisco police. he died after officers confronted him while responding to a call about a man with a gun. they say nieto pointed a taser at officers. prosecutors declined to file criminal charges against those officers officers. nie it to's shooting death set off a series of protests over the past year. tonight's activities will include the screening of a film entitled more for alex. today also marks six years since the deaths of four oakland police officers shot and killed by a wanted parolee. the officers were shot and killed by the 26-year-old during a traffic stop. he then barricaded himself inside an apartment and opened fire on s.w.a.t. team members sergeant irvin romans and dan. the deadly shoot inging was the first time four officers had been killed on the same day in california since 1970. a san francisco woman has trade to get everything -- has

terrible if someone else is getting burglarized by the same person. >> reporter: she found someone was watching her stolen tv set. she has a netflix app. >> my tv was back online watching movies on my netflix can account. >> reporter: she captured a screen shot of the ip address to track down where her stolen tv was. she asked her carrier to give her that information. answer, no because of privacy laws. >> it was shocking to me. do i not have the right to go after my own property? it's stolen property that belongs to me. >> reporter: she said the investigators told her they didn't have the resources to go after the tv. so she went to court to try to get a subpoena forcinging at&t to give up the address. this came in the mail, motion denied. so kimberly knows who the burglar is. the trouble is, he's still on the loose. she also knows a that someone in san francisco is watching her tv set but she doesn't know where

he or she lives. so while she waits for good news, well you know that old adage, justice delayed is justice denied. vic lee, abc 7 news. 8:35 is our time. california's surging economy keeps rolling along. the unemployment rate dropped to 6.7%, the lowest rate in california since june of 2008. in all the state has added 1.8 million jobs since the recovery began in 2010. no place reflects that growth better than here in the bay area. we added 23,000 jobs last month dropping the unemployment rate in every county below the figure. san mateo is the lowest at just 3.5% unemployment. governor jerry browne is puck for employment for former convicts. he spoke about the idea in oakland yesterday. nearly 3,000 inmates have been paroled from california prisons since proposition 47 was approved by voters last november. governor brown says offering

peninsula and down around the airport today temperatures will be cooler as well as san francisco. extra cloud cover. actually the cloudiest day and the coolest day monday. another front here, one front that has allowed for low clouds and fog to gather along the shoreline bringing in a cooler day today. mt. tamm featuring right there with 55 half moon bay. 53 in san hoejose. we're looking at just 50 in morgan hill. kind of cool and the low clouds at the beach. santa cruz temperatures in and around 70. so it will be milder and sunnier the further south and east of our viewing area. santa rosa 49. some pretty good fog and sitting at a quarter mile visibility. the airport is improving but right around half moon bay still just four miles. napa a half mile visibility. so we had a shower here earlier.

coastal fog as the frontal band washes out. a slightly stronger system sits offshore bringing a cooler day sunday and then the chance of rain sunday night into monday. then look for 70s and 80s to come back full swing middle to late part of next week. so high pressure still hanging on to the south of us. partly cloudy for the most part. maybe a spotty shower with a better chance with this system here that pushes through later on tomorrow. so we'll have more cloud cover tomorrow. and the chance of showers comes in late in the day. we'll time it out for you. saturday 4:00 we have the cloud cover. just low 60s is here from half moon bay and more sunshine in our east bay valleys. overnight tonight from sonoma to marin look at clear lake.

you can see some showers and then as we get into the first part to the second part of tomorrow afternoon you'll notice the chance of light rain but it stays together. this forecast model shows overnight on monday into your monday morning commute showers. we'll look for rainfall amounts between now and monday to average out anywhere from about a tenth to .2 in the north bay. more in the coastal hills hear and probably nothing from santa clara into the livermore valley. so temperature wise we're in the upper 60s today for oakland, the cooler day tomorrow. look what happens after the front pushes through. more sun and warmer temperatures. 69 in yosemite today with 77 and cooler in los angeles today. mid-70s in sacramento. 67 richmond. 69 san mateo. 71 in fremont. the accuweather seven-day forecast shows temperatures coming down each and every day
