a way -- excuse me he always had a way of making you laugh. >> funeral arrangements are underway. in berkeley, tiffany wilson abc 7 news. >> five people were rushed to the hospital today after an accident in san francisco happened at 29th street and san jose avenue around 2:30 this afternoon. the truck slammed into the side of the car. police didn't say who was at fault. five people were transported to the hospital. a 6th person was treated by first responders. >> a man treatsuspected in sexual assaults is in jail. they charged himçó with three felony counts. officers took him into custody in huntington park where he had allegedly been loitering after park hours. investigators say he would walk

up behind women, grope them and run off. these alleged attacks took place dating back to last september. >> a civil trial begins wednesday in the case of a saratoga girl that committed suicide after being sexually assaulted at a house party she hanged herself in 2012 after she was sexually assaulted at a party and nude pohotos surfaced afterward. her family didn't believe the punishment was severe enough. only two of the boys will stand trial. court records show they settled with the third boy's parents for $600,000. >> the supreme court today refused to intervene in a controversial free speech case. they upheld the court ruling involving students wearing american flag shirts in 2010. the lower court ruled administrators were justified when they ordered the students

to turn their shirts inside out or go home. officials feared the shirts would insight violence. >> robin williams children and wife are trying to dissolve their bitter dispute over his estate out of court. they're fighting over belongings from clothes to jewelry to memorabilia. carolyn tyler has more from the newsroom. >> well, the attorney for his adult children says this dispute is excruciating for them but the lawyer representing their step mother says what she is asking for compared to the william's children is a bucket in a lake. the battle is not what robin williams would have wanted but according to his trustees and they asked unsuccessfully to have the court documents sealed. >> they have disturbed that we're here because as an intensity private person mr. williams wouldn't have wanted this. >> it puts her against her step

children over terms of the estate. in court today it was revealed that a final inventory of the home snyder shared with williams has 1200 items that need to be sorted out. her attorney believes there's no argument about most of them. >> the art on the walls. the furniture, her wedding presents those are the things that stay. the other things such as the academy awards statue and other items, they cheerilylearly go to the kids. >> the handover could begin within the next few days. the children have been arguing about momentos, jewelry, clothing photos. they want to put this legal process behind them. >> it's been almost 8 months since their father's death and they haven't received the items he wanted them to have. >> a local estate expert says while this is not a typical case family fights are. >> it's very important that if you're going to give an item of personal property that you are

very specific in identifying it. i understand in his case there's a question over the definition of memorabilia. >> the judge has given the parties until june 1st to resolve issues through informal talks and mediation. if not he'll step in. in san francisco, carolyn tyler, abc 7 news. >> the family of an oakland man killed by a san francisco police officer near at&t park last year is suing the department. family members marched from city hall to police headquaters after filing the wrongful death lawsuit. he was shot and killed last october by officer david gough investigating a car break in after a giant's game. evans pointed a gun at the officer. >> the police officers of course are alleging he had a gun but they always tend to rationalize the killing of somebody by saying that somebody has a weapon. >> san francisco police say three different investigations on the shooting have not been completed. >> the california highway patrol is looking for a driver that

shot a young boy on interstate 880 in oakland yesterday. the boy was in a car heading northbound near 7th seat when another vehicle pulled up along side and a driver fired into the car. the boy was the only one injured but not critically. he was treated at the hospital. >> we're looking for a dark color sedan that had tinted windows and no license plate. so it had a paper license plate from a dealer or used car shop. >> investigators don't have a motive for the shooting but say it does not appear to be caused by road rage. >> firefighters rescued a dog from a fire today. it started at a home on west 9th street around 11:30 this morning. the fire spread from one of the bedrooms into the hallway and attic. firefighters had to cut holes in the roof to attack those flames. they had the fire out in about half an hour. a dog in the basement was safely removed. the fire caused about $100,000

in damage. with excessively dry conditions and unseasonably warm weather they urged everyone to make sure our homes are fire safe. they walked through various risk factors around the home such as leaving a stove on or candle lit. it's important to make sure that you keep the weeds and plants around your home trimmed. having a working smoke detector is critical. >> you save lives. there's no doubt about it. so it's very important that everybody has at least one of these in their apartment or home. >> they say to contact your land lord first and then file your complaint. >> the weather service says the first three months of this year are the driest on record for the city. the total rainfall is under 2 inches in san francisco. as for the rest of the bay area the time period is the driest start for livermore and third driest for san jose and santa rosa as well.

meantime the search for alternative water supplies goes on. ground water that used to get flushed into the bay because it was too salty is now running out of taps in three east bay cities. abc 7 news reporter david is live with more most people didn't know we had it. >> i didn't know about it until today. the water underneath this lake is too salty to drink: that's because they seeped into the underground basins but there's no water to waste. 60% of the water in freemont and union city is purchased from outside of the area. 40% comes from local sources like corey lakes. but after it percolates into the ground water basins it's a mixture of fresh and saltier bay water. >> there was historic pumping issues in this local area that

threw it down from the bay in toward our ground water basin. >> so 12 years ago the water district invested $17 million to build this plant and facilities. it was doubled five years ago and produces 10 million gallons from the water. it goes through a reverse osmosis process in which salt, crystals and minerals are filtered out by a fine membrane. >> this gives us the opportunity to take advantage of our local resources and increase our water supplies for our customers. >> the original goal is to save money by not purchasing more expensive water from the states and it's saving 380,000 customers $4 million a year but the plant has also helped to expand it's water supply in a drought. >> the water that comes out is blended with well water for taste and distributed right through the pipes to residences and businesses and it tastes

>> this is abc 7 news. >> you have probably heard the song spirit in the sky. the sonoma county resident that sang that 1969 hit was involved in a serious car crash over the weekend. friends tell us he is in critical condition tonight two days after the accident. the 72-year-old was a passenger in a car that fatally struck a motorcyclist saturday afternoon. the driver of the car wasn't injured but one of the two people on the motorcycle died. >> bike riders in san francisco may want to avoid specific dangerous intersections. a new report identified where riders in the city face the greatest risk of encountering

law goes into effect in july and what's our relationship with the state of indiana going to be. >> the popular band announced today it's cancelling it's indiana tour date in protest. the measure the governor signed last week allows businesses to turn away gay and lesbian customers in the name of religious freedom. >> just days after being cleared of murder amanda knox is reportedly heading back to italy. her lawyers say she will seek compensation for the four years she spent in prison. abc news reporter has the latest developments. >> i'm so grateful to have my life back. that's all i can say. >> 28-year-old amanda knox speaking out after being twice convicted but now exonerated by an italian court. four years in prison for the 2007 murder of roommate meredith kercher but her family is saying she wants to return to the place she knows the prison walls better than the landscape. knox's father tells abc news she

always loved italy and wants to go back and visit. according to her lawyer knox could write a book on the italian legal system and possibly seek compensation for her prison time but what's more likely according to those close with her is that she'll visit a prison chaplain she became close with while behind bars. her former boyfriend who was also acquitted and released made his first public comments monday saying he has been living in limbo. >> the void inside my soul. it's very hard to erase. >> he also said he is sorry the family is saddened by the latest verdict but added the court's finding is the truth. when she spoke with the press knox honored her memory. >> she deserved so much in this life. i'm the lucky one. >> his lawyer says the maximum compensation for wrongful imprisonment is around 550 american dollars. he could sue but at the moment he's not out for revenge.

>> two former federal agents are facing criminal charges related to the investigation into an online black market known as silk road. they filed charges against former secret service agent sean bridges and former dea agent carl force. bridges is accused of diverting $800,000 in digital currency to his personal account after gaining control of the funds during the silk road investigation. force is charged with wire fraud, theft of government property, money laundering and conflict of interest. president obama's personal information including his passport number was accidentally revealed by the australian government. an australian immigration official mistakenly sent an e-mail with the personal information of president obama and other heads of state from russia germany and britain. the information includes birthdates passport and visa numbers. >> oh, yeah.

two men are arrested in a deadly shooting that police say stemmed from jealousy over a woman. they were in court today. police say an exgirlfriend of one of them interacted with another man at a bar called the spot in union city friday night. he was shot multiple times and killed. gates and young are behind bars without any bail tonight. meantime dozens of residents can use their water again after a mane break interrupted service this morning. they were over the sinkhole caused by washington high school. a contractor working on the road hit the buried water line apparently and ruptured it. crews made a temporary fix to
