>> reporter: this is a drama that started at this hospital in the middle of a night. the suspect gets a gun from the guard. a shot is fired. he takes off in just a gown and bare feet and still missing possibly in a car now. >> just ten miles from washington d.c. an urgent ongoing man hunt for an escaped prisoner who police are calling arm and dangerous. authorities say woosen assaye overpowered a security guard and stole his gun as they were transferring him from jail to the fairfax hospital. >> you guys want to take a floor each. we'll break up into groups and clear the building. >> police tweeting out this image of assaye wearing a hospital gown and armed with a gun they say. >> stay available so i can use you to deploy on this guy when he pops up, okay. >> police around this area.

the hospital, no one in, no one out. all major entrances and roads blocked. >> this will take hours and we're going through every single building to assure the hospital and community that it's safe. >> residents were warned to stay inside and the suspect fled. police believe he was driving a camry with front end damage and he may be with a local woman who could be his girlfriend. police searching for her and her father. we spoke with lieutenant brook wright earlier this morning. >> reports that the suspect has a gun and dressed in a hospital gown bare foot. do you know if he's been able to get into a car? there's one report he might have been able to contact a girlfriend driving. >> what i have been told is he does have a girlfriend. however, they don't know she has access to a vehicle. >> reporter: authorities say he attempted to harm himself. he's been charged with a variety of felonies including breaking

and entering and convicted with one felony for stealing a purse. current charges, bank robbery. >> that's what i have been informed. this is the suspect robbed banks in the region using a bicycle. >> reporter: there were a string of bank robberies and charged with one of them and that's what he was in jail for when he attempted suicide friday and brought to the hospital for treatment where this all started. now it's believed that he's in a small car and this girlfriend potentially could be involved. there were several square mile that is had been blocked off forthe entire morning. it's all been opened up. we have seen helicopters and police still looking for the suspect considered armed and dangerous at this hour and ongoing urgent search. >> now to to outrage over indiana's new religious freedom law. the governor defending the law and lawmakers feeling the pressure from protests and boycotts saying they're going to

change the language to protect gays and lesbians against discrimination. abc is there in indianapolis with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. just take a look at the front page of the indianapolis star. the bold headline "fix this now". that's what legislators say they're going to do. overnight indiana's governor clarifying his stance on the religious freedom act saying in an op-ed he abhors discrimination, and if i saw a restaurant refuse to serve a gay couple, i wouldn't eat there anymore. this two days after that heated interview with george. >> do you think it should be legal in the state of indiana to discriminate against gays or lesbians. >> george -- >> it's a yes or no question. >> come on. hoosiers don't believe in discrimination. >> no hate in our state! >> reporter: progress after protest. indiana legislators telling abc

told at least eight other states considering similar religious freedom laws but they may face some early opposition george. to that deadly shooting at the national security agency where two men dressed as women stormed the gates and investigators are saying this was not an orchestrated attack but wrong turn that turned tragic. abc's jim avila has the story. >> reporter: it had the look, even the feel of a terrorist attack on perhaps the world's most secure facility, the national security agency at fort meade, maryland. america's very secretive spy agency. two men speeding towards the main gate of the nsa ignoring orders to stop and wearing women's clothes and wigs. nsa security immediately raised barricades to stop the dark green ford escape suv. that's when police and the patrol truck opened fire killing the driver instantly and gravely injuring the passenger

identified as 20-year-old kevin fleming of baltimore. he had a criminal record. paramedics can be heard in the police scanner working feverishly to save him. >> there's cpr in progress with one. >> reporter: when the dust settles police and fbi discover the men were not in disguise for an attack on the nsa but were wearing women's clothes after a long night of partying. police now believe the two merely made a wrong turn in a stolen car ending a wild night at the wrong place. so it could have been just panic and confusion when confronted by police, after all, they were driving that stolen car or it could have been just an epic wrong turn. robin. >> all right, jim, thank you. now to the boston marathon bombing trial. prosecutors wrapped up its case monday with heartbreaking testimony that left some jurors in tears. the defense now laying out its side and abc's tom llamas has been in the courtroom for all of it. good morning, tom. >> reporter: robin, good morning to you.

the defense wasted no time trying to prove tamerlan, the older brother, not only directed the attack, he also provided logistics and, you're right, robin, it was likely a very long night for jurors who had to sit through hours of painful testimony with graphic images showing how dzhokhar's bomb killed a little boy. one of the biggest pieces focused on the smallest of victims, 8-year-old martin richard. half a dozen jurors wiping away tears, the testimony and photos showing not a single piece of the boy's body spared from shrapnel, burns or injury. agonizing evidence as the government rested its case in the boston marathon bombing trial on monday. prosecutors also showing this haunting photo, that's the richard family watching the marathon two years ago. martin by and the big smile. but look closely. lurking in the background behind the tree in that white hat, dzhokhar tsarnaev.

>> the prosecution has brought the jury to the scene of that awful incident. all of which is pretty powerful stuff to show that he was, indeed, a terrorist. >> reporter: but the defense now has its chance to try calling their first witnesses monday. they're looking to prove dzhokhar was a puppet controlled by his older brother tamerlan. the jury seeing that cell phone and gps record suggests he wasn't there when tamerlan bought and later built the pressure cooker bombs. and this video, showing tamerlan leading the way down boylston street, the defense hoping the jury takes pity on the little brother they say tagged along. >> i think he's guilty. >> reporter: the bomb dzhokhar planted took heather abbott's leg. it's unclear if dzhokhar will testify but from what heather has seen in court it's not sorrow he's been expressing. >> i was somewhat surprised at his demeanor in court. i would have thought that he would have some sort of reaction. i really can't understand how a person like that thinks. >> reporter: and so far the defense has called no character witnesses, only an fbi

doing -- >> thank you. >> small pleasures. all right. thank you. it's early. now to the latest on that california woman who claimed she was kidnapped. the police say it was all a hoax but this morning the woman's attorney is telling us what's in an e-mail he says was sent by the alleged kidnappers. abc's mara schiavocampo is here with the latest on all this. >> reporter: good morning, very unusual story here. the attorney is maintaining that the woman was abducted and drugged and now saying that the kidnappers have even written a letter describing in detail how and why they did it. police claimed her mysterious disappearance was nothing but a hoax drawing comparisons to "gone girl." >> my wife amy elliott dunne disappeared three days ago. >> reporter: but this morning denise huskins' attorney says he has proof his client isn't a liar but a victim and that her kidnappers are still on the loose. >> i have come to receive a 15-page single-spaced e-mail

from the kidnappers. >> reporter: speaking with abc news overnight, douglas rappaport described a stunning manifesto that the alleged kidnappers e-mailed to "the san francisco chronicle" after she turned up safe two days after her boyfriend, aaron quinn, reported she was abducted from his vallejo, california home. >> they talked very extensively about how they prepared for it what weapons to use. >> reporter: rappaport wouldn't tell us how he got the e-mail or show us its contents but abc news was able to see it from another source. in it the group compares themselves to the crew from "ocean's eleven." >> this town your luck can change that quickly. >> reporter: cowing themselves college educated career criminals who say they only nabbed huskins as a dry run so they could kidnap higher profile victims in the future. in fact they say huskins wasn't even their intended target.

>> they felt terribly when they discovered that it was her, but yet since this was a training mission, they decided to carry it out regardless. >> reporter: according to the e-mail they eventually felt so badly they simply let her go dropping her off in her hometown of huntington beach where they thought she'd be safe. the group won't i.d. itself but says it feels the need to defend denise and her boyfriend against police's claims last week. >> mr. quinn and miss huskins has plundered valuable resources away from our community. >> reporter: authorities haven't spoken out about the case since and, of course it's still not clear who the mysterious e-mail came from. now, the san francisco chronicle is reporting they received another letter from the alleged kidnappers yesterday. that one allegedly making threats against police if they don't apologize to huskins by this afternoon. a lot of really unusual twists in this story. >> kidnappers who are sympathetic toward the person

that they allegedly -- okay. >> apparently they don't like people being falsely accused. >> strange one. thank you, mara. robin's face says it all. >> we're going to move on to that legal battle over the estate of robin williams that pits his widow and children against each other. both sides in court monday and linsey davis is tracking the case. >> reporter: both sides agree for very different reasons this is not playing out as williams intended. prior to his death williams set up a trust agreement but an attorney for his wife says it's a bit ambiguous when it comes to things like memorabilia so took it to court seeking clarity. this morning 1200 items which all belonged to the late robin williams are in the middle of a contentious family feud. lawyers for williams' third wife susan schneider williams squaring off. >> we're trying to honor his wishes that his wife can tay in

two teenage girls rude in a movie theater. one of the moms found out and went on to facebook and apologized to the other mom. we set up a meeting between the two. you see them right there and it raised a lot of questions about how you should discipline your kids when they act out in public. we'll talk about that in a little bit but first let's get news from amy and, boy, this manhunt in virginia is a little scary. >> authorities across northern virginia are searching for the escaped prisoner. he escaped from custody being transferred to a hospital and moments ago police found the car he was believed to be driving but no sign of him. it has been a dramatic search all morning. earlier there was a chase and a crash on a nearby highway and a man was taken into custody. what what we learned later, the chase was unrelated. >> good morning. that's right. this manhunt continues and the suspect left one stolen car and apparently stolen another car and is still in this general area which was on lockdown earlier this morning. it happened in the middle of the

night at the hospital behind me. the suspect brought in who had tried to commit suicide apparently and being treat overpowered a security guard, got that guard's gun. a shot fired. the suspect fled wearing a gown and no shoes but was able to steal the original car. as i say the lockdown has been lifted still looking for the suspect. amy. >> david kerley with the latest from virginia. thank you. >> new details in the hillyary clinton e-mail scandal. documents obtained by the associated press show clinton e-mailed her staff on an ipad as well as a blackberry while secretary of state. clinton previously explained she had used her personal e-mail address on a special home server specifically so she could carry just one device. indiana lawmakers tell abc news they are working to revise the language in their controversial new religious freedom act. critics fear its current wording could protect businesses that discriminate against gay and lesbian customers. a growing number of states, cities and businesses are

boycotting indiana. the ncaa, which is about to hold the final four tournament there, says the law is, quote, completely inconsistent with its values. the state clearly feeling the heat. the cover of this morning's "indianapolis star" newspaper makes a bold plea, "fix this now". in health news an important warning for parents. researchers have found that children who were allowed to take a sip of alcohol at an early age were more likely to start drinking by high school. the alcohol was often provided by parents who believe in the so-called european approach to make drinking seem less taboo but the study found it often had the opposite effect. nearly 30% of those early sippers had consumed a full drink by ninth grade. 9% had been drunk or participated in binge drinking. and finally, we've all heard how drones may one day be used to deliver pizza or items you buy on amazon, but they're already being used in a truly revolutionary way. take a look. a farmer in ireland had this idea.

mom.me ericka souter joins us now. always good to have you here. the mother didn't intend to humiliate or embarrass her children. she just wanted to say, hey, you were wrong and to make amends for it. >> right. the important thing is she wanted to teach them their actions have consequences. and that's a great thing to see in this day and age because too many times you see parents say, oh, kids are being kids. my daughter didn't mean it or my son didn't mean it, but this is great. she stepped in and rectified the situation. she had them rectify the situation. >> how about the first mom that stepped in at the movie theater. we've all been through this. how much do you tolerate and say enough is enough? >> that is a tough spot to be in because you have no idea how those kids are going to react to you, but she did a good thing and taught by example not just those kids she spoke to and stood up for herself and let her daughter know that kind of behavior is not tolerated. >> good point. >> i know you have a quiz, so to speak, to teach our kids to be better people. >> so the first question is multiple choice. number one if your kid

>> it's not always easy but, you know it is what it is you know. you know in life things come our way we can't control. believe me i'll milk it when it comes to doing chores at home but even my wife will say the garbage isn't going to walk itself out there so i tell people with the disease or any kind of malady life is as john kennedy said once is unfair but you just have to deal. >> what are the special challenges trying to do live television when you're deing with ms? >> i think my purchases could tell you they'll know something is wrong when i can't see or having trouble looking at the prompter. now, you don't need prompter but those days that i do i try to prememorize the script or try to remember the guests. sometimes it's very difficult to see the person right in front of me. it just depends on the day. it's a disease that manifests itself >> that's the thing. so many who struggle with ms have to be in such tune with their bodies so they can feel the signs coming on. >> i think that's what's it.

i think -- i had cancer prior to this and as awful as that was, george there was an end game with the chemotherapy and radiation succeeding but with ms it's not so easy and as it progresses and mine is progressing, you never know how it will hit. i think the biggest adjustment i had when i first got diagnosed was understanding a limb that would go out and compensating with the other limb an eye that goes out, compensate with the other. both eyes go out, just feel words. i think it gets bizarre but you read your body after a while and you realize that hey, look we can do this. >> i know -- i remember robin talking to ann romney who, of course is dealing with ms as well and how she handled it during the campaign and you teamed up with her in her ann romney neurological center. >> she asked when she was coming up with this idea and i wanted to run it by the higher-ups at fox but to host with a lot of

neurological ailments like parkinson's, lou gehrig's disease, multiple sclerosis and she was trying to find a common theme for this but it's a board that is as bipartisan as you can get. chelsea clinton and her husband are on it. former congressman kennedy in massachusetts and i like the fact that it's bipartisan in that you know a disease like this doesn't recognize either your politics or your wealth or your status it hits everybody. >> that's an important message. i know you'll help a lot of people. neil cavuto thanks for comeing on. matcha tea, a lot of

>> yeah, you like that. you like that because it's miss yearwood. the country megastar and "the new york times" best-selling author trisha yearwood she's sharing some of her favorite recipes from her new cookbook "trisha's table." it's full of healthy twists on comfort food classics. always a pleasure to have you here. >> thank you. >> i love your 80/20 rule. 80% of the times you do the right thing and 20% you kind of -- >> right, sometimes it flip-flops. i have a been on the road with my husband for six months so 80% it's been bad but it's all about balance. >> and garth wrote the foreword. you both are just trying to make the commitment to do the right thing as much as you can. >> first two books were very much about my mom's and my grandmother's recipes and still have those comfort foods in this book but this is more kind of the way we eat most of the time then we three in the occasional apple pie over there and throw in indulgent things but we also try to lighten things up a little bit. >> you do not skimp on flavor.

that's one thing you don't do so tell us what you're cooking here today. >> this is very hot. this is called raspberry chicken and this is one of those things that is -- which you tart with breaded chicken. i salt and pepper each side which i'll pretend i did but you don't have to even -- you can skip this step -- i've tried it when trying to drop a few pounds i don't even bread it. just sear the chicken. >> but still the skinless like that is a real go-to protein. >> i do use a lot of chicken and i like -- i love chicken which is good and i really do love it simply prepared. i like it -- i do an unfried chicken that i bake in the oven. >> i've seen that. >> so that's the simple part of that and then once you've seared the chicken your pot is going to look like this then you're basically just kind of making a really light gravy basically that goes in it and i use a shallot which is a fancy word for onion. >> exactly. >> garlic. >> you're so fancy. >> of course a little garlic.

this is white wine vinegar. >> mm-mm. >> and some chicken stock. you could use vegetable tock if you prefer. >> yum. >> and crimini mushrooms, as well i like to use and add your chicken back in there. >> put the chicken back in with all had. >> uh-huh. >> and cover it up and let it cook for ten minute. >> that's it? >> that lets the sauce reduce a little bit. >> oh i know amy was going to go right for it. >> hi guy. >> already over here. >> ten minutes. when you're done this is what it looks like then to add it to finish it off you add a little bit of lemon zest. >> so good. >> you can add a little butter. you don't have to add the butter. you can leave it out but butter adds flavor. a little bit of balsamic vinegar which adds flavor. >> it does. >> and raspberries, a little sweet in with the savory. >> do they have to be fresh. >> frozen works great. fresh sometimes don't look so great. you let it cook for a few more

minutes. this is what you end up with. >> oh my goodness. >> fantastic. >> peanut gallery, what are you talking about. >> avocado -- >> that is avocado salsa basically loves pineapple salsa and guacamole and came up with a mixture. keep it chunkyiy avocados and pineapples. >> chickpeas? >> chickpea salad. i love garbanzo beans and it's a light salad. >> then you've got this apple pie that i've already had. >> that's not a superfood. >> that's a 20. >> this is the 20%. >> yes. >> trirn, i love how you cook it right in the skill let. >> it's a simple recipe from a sweet little lady miss carter from south georgia and it all goes in one skillet and it's so easy to make. >> i can't believe you're starting your sixth season on the food network. >> i am. >> with your show. >> it's good. i never dreamed -- i just love
