per hour battered tennessee causing power outages in thousands of homes and reports of hail in georgia. in kentucky friday, roads collapsing as rushing waters tear through neighborhoods. one woman dead after floodwaters swept her car off the road. rescuers using inflatable rafts to pull students and a driver from their submerged school bus. across the state, the heavy rains stranding drivers and trapping people in their homes. abc louisville's brooke hash capturing some of the rescues live. >> this is what we've been seeing all morning long. these are firefighters rescuing more than 135 people at this point. >> reporter: this morning, firefighters still battling a fire at this ge plant believed to be sparked by lightning. overnight in alabama, up to five strikes hitting every minute. >> wow. >> reporter: lighting up the skies. and as they begin the process of drying out here in louisville

good news, there is sunshine is in the forecast for the weekend. dan. >> alex perez on the ground in louisville, thank you. so the question of course is when do we get a break from the severe weather. over to rob who is tracking it all. good morning, sir. >> good morning, dan. the shift has moved to the east but it won't be as bad as it was yesterday. the last two days, as a matter of fact but the rainfall is really what's the most dramatic. over 5 inches in louisville and lexington, jackson, over 4 inches. that's the most they've ever recorded in a 24-hour period. look at these storm reports. 64 of them. mostly wind and hail throughout the day yesterday and in those two areas, low pressure moves off to the east. the change in the weather will be across the northeast where the back side is going to have cold air. with that we'll see snow. could see over 8 inches in some of the higher elevations northern new york, northern new england and strong winds today so even though it's spring we're feeling a little bit of winter weather across the northeast. we'll talk about that later on. >> all right, rob, thank you. we do have some more

disturbing signs of homegrown radicals on u.s. soil. yet another woman, that's the sixth american in just the last few weeks, has been busted for allegedly trying to join isis overseas or even launch an attack. she is from philadelphia and was traced through her social media account where allegedly she told an isis fighter the opportunity, quote, would be amazing. had abc's jim avila joining us from the white house. hi, jim. >> reporter: good morning, paula. it's become one of our biggest homeland security threats, americans threatening other americans with terror. turning on their own country. take a look at this exclusive video from our station in philadelphia, wpvi. a federal agent searching the home of 30-year-old keonna thomas. just two days before prosecutors say she was set to board a plane to join isis fighters overseas. thomas, officials say, went by name of young lioness

telling a known isis fighter that becoming a martyr would be amazing, a girl could only wish. >> on wednesday we'll be back in court for a detention hearing and a preliminary hearing. >> reporter: thomas, now the third american woman in just two days, arrested on terrorism charges after a sting operation thursday captured two new york women allegedly planning to detonate a bomb somewhere on u.s. soil. according to court documents, 28-year-old noelle velentzas and fellow queens native asia siddiqui, prosecutors say the pair were obsessed with pressure cookers like those used to attack in the boston marathon to launch an attack on the homeland. >> this is another great example of the fbi getting in front of a potential terrorist act and they basically are able to sort of control what happens. >> reporter: investigators say thursday's arrest was triggered when siddiqui who allegedly calls osama bin laden a hero gathered several propane tanks along with instructions on how to turn them into explosives. her attorney says she plans to plead not guilty.

>> i know it's a serious case but we're going to fight it out in court. >> reporter: velentzas' defense did not comment. if convicted, thomas would serve 15 years in prison. she has not entered a plea. dan and paula. >> all right jim avila at the white house. jim, we thank you. time to check the morning's other headlines. we get it over to ron. you're leading with breaking news on an escaped killer, i understand. >> actually we just changed and have an updated story overnight about a casino brawl right here in queens. a massive brawl inside of a packed casino here in new york city, the dramatic scene inside the resorts world casino in queen, it happened late friday night captured on cell phone video. police say two dozen people were involved in the melee. chairs were flying in parts of the 4-year-old casino trashed. so far people have been arrested in connection with that fight. no word on how many people were injured. and now to that story that you're referring to there,

dan, new details breaking overnight. a convicted killer at the center of a dramatic prison escape has been captured. kamron taylor, you see him there in possession of a gun and arrested friday. surveillance pictures wednesday from the corrects facility show the 23-year-old wearing the uniform of an officer that he was accused of overpowering and allegedly stealing his keys before making his getaway. and a somali militant group al shabaab has released a statement promising more bloody attacks like the one inside the university where 150 people were killed. this morning a survivor of that massacre was found alive after hiding out in a cupboard for two days. this as the kenyan interior minister says that there were five arrests have been made in connection with that attack. a solemn procession in rome as the pope celebrated good friday mass. at one point pope francis praying before the main altar, you see there at st. peter's basilica. the pontiff later leading a

candlelit procession around the colosseum. the symbolic walk around one of rome's most famous landmarks commemorating jesus' final walk through the streets of jerusalem carrying the cross. and sarah brady, the widow of former white house press secretary james brady on president reagan has died. her late husband, of course, was gravely wounded during the attempt on president reagan's that was in 1981. afterward she became one of the country's leading advocates of gun control. sarah brady was 73 years of age. and a pet owner's cat cam video has helped police in eugene oregon, nab a couple that they say pulled off a string of thefts and burglaries. the video shows the man allegedly breaking into a home armed with a large knife and taking off with bags loaded with items from that house. police say the man in the video and his girlfriend are believed to have stolen $9,000 in jewelry at a local walmart. >> the camera was on the actual cat? >> the camera was on -- yes. >> cats are known for a lot of thing, crime-stopping, not one

the water and this comes at an especially worrying time as it is packed with spring breakers. linzie janis is on the story. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, dan. florida is ground zero for shark attacks in america and beachgoers are on high alert after this latest attack, the victim bitten at least twice by a suspected bull shark. this morning, a man lucky to be alive after his spearfishing trip off the coast of the jupiter inlet turned violent. >> there was a lot of blood on the boat. he was pleading, you know, quite a bit. >> reporter: the victim attacked friday by what some witnesses believe was a bull shark. >> and you could see his wet suit was embedded in it and it looked like it took a good chuck of it out. >> reporter: suffering wounds to his torso and neck he was airlifted to the nearest trauma center conscious the entire time. >> he had injuries to his torso and neck. >> reporter: yesterday ae's horrific incident comes just as spring break is in full swing, families and college students flocking to florida beaches have plenty of unwanted company.

between prosecutors and durst defense team. >> it sounds like to me they're trying to hide the ball. >> reporter: desk attorney dick degeurin filing this motion overnight, asking the judge to declare durst's arrest in the new orleans hotel illegal after prosecutors called no witnesses and despite being subpoenaed by the defense, two fbi agents and a state trooper never showed up. >> we're entitled to cross-examine the witnesses against us. you cannot cross-examine an affidavit. >> reporter: the agents were supposed to testify about the warrant used to search durst's room where they discovered a .38 caliber special revolver and marijuana. degeurin says there was no probable cause and because of that, the prosecution's case is shockingly inadequate. >> there is almost no chance that a judge is going to rule that the arrest warrant was invalid. this case is almost certainly going to go to trial. >> reporter: the legal roadblock a surprising turn for a case that shot to national fame with

what appears to be durst's on-mike confession at the conclusion of the hbo docudrama "the jinx." >> i killed them all, of course. >> reporter: the judge issuing a ruling on thursday postponing the trial for at least one more week pending the outcome of an april 9th hearing to determine whether durst can be extradited to california to face the first degree murder charge and saying the missing law enforcement officers may be held in contempt of court for what degeurin called a misguided attempt to conceal facts. now, in the california murder case, durst could face the death penalty. but right now he's being held without bail in louisiana on those gun charges and he could stay there until they are resolved. a lot of issues going on. >> yeah, this thing may not resolve quickly. >> absolutely. it could take a long time before we get to the murder case. >> mara, thanks. >> thank you. now a farmer is reliving the moment that he thought he was a goner. eric baker knew that climbing into a grain bin is a risky

thing to do but he never thought his life was about to change in an instant. >> what i was doing specifically that day is by far the most dangerous thing a farmer can do. on a farm you're always around dangerous things and a grain bin is one of the most dangerous. the unload from the grain bin stopped running, so there was something wrong. my job that day was to go up over the top of the grain bin, crawl down the ladder inside and poke for rotten corn. we were guessing that that's what was wrong. i made the rotten shelf of corn collapse. when that happened, i actually fell through the corn. >> ben! ben! ben! >> i stopped, looked up at the top of the bin and he didn't surface and i thought he's probably doing a little knocking some corn down. >> you never think nose silos can be so incredibly dangerous.
