i'm katie marzullo. broadcast hall of famer lon simmons was part of the original san francisco giants announcing team. he went on to call games for the a's and the 49 erls. tiffany wilson begins our team cover live from at & t park with reaction to his death. >> reporter: fans remember lon simmons as the sound track to summer nights. even when they weren't at the ballpark they say he made them feel part of the game. simmons career in the giants broadcast booth spanned five decades. he started with russ ej hodge he is in 1958 when the giants moved to san francisco. today the booth is named in their honor. simmons is remembered for his enthusiasm, his incredible sports knowledge and his booming baritone voice. he shared shows skills across the bay calling games for oakland a's for 15 years and spent 26 seasons announcing for the 49ers. today the giants released this statement. the giants family and bay area

sports community lost a true gentleman this morning when hall of fame broadcaster lon simmons peacefully passed away. >> you don't hear voices like that no more. sad to say. the guys that commentate on the games now aday, they don't have that -- i don't know, that pizazz. >> you know i know he's up there in the great giants broadcasting booth up in the sky watching down on all the future giants games. >> reporter: simss on was inducked into the national baseball hall of fame in 2004. at the time he was very bashful about receiving the honor. he coined the home run catch phrase, tell it good-bye. fans say they will have a very tough time telling him good-bye. lon simmons again was 91. live outside at & t park. tiffany wilson, abc7 news. >>tive neshek thank you. we're joined earlier by shoe now to weigh in on this as well. you have a two-fold perspective. he was calling games when you were a 49er and later he game

friends. >> he was a bay area eyeson demonstrate the booth. the hall of famer was the original voice of the san francisco giants with russ hodges in 1958 and as tiffany told us also worked with the a's and the 49ers. a rare broadcaster that enjoyed being eight around players fans and media. he had an encyclopedic sports knowledge. and a sense of humor. he loved all sports. i worked with him at kfog radio he was a regular contributor in the rock and roll format. hip even in his 60s. seen her throwing out the first pitch in 2013 on his 90th birthday. here is his call of willie mays 600th home run. >> a pitch to willie. deep to left. that one is way back. way back. way back. tell it good-bye number 600 for willie mays and the bye-bye baby bonanza. >> more people grew up listening to lon simmons than perhaps any

broadcaster in bay area history. he is the vin scully, the harry carry of the bay area, one of the fair few who did baseball and football. so land told me years ago he had to come up with one of his own and tell it good-bye was important. our thoughts go out to his four daughters, robin as i understandy lisa and lindsay. no services are planned. the last time i saw him he said to me, shoe i was on the mike for both of your 49er highlights. he had that signed of sense of humor. we are going to his him dearly. he will be saying tell it good-bye to everybody where he is now. >> thank you shoe. tomorrow is opening day for the a's at owe dot cocoliseum. rain is pts anded. earlier today abc7 news was there's there as a storm hit the coliseum bart station. right now the camera shows clouds in the sky.

in san rafael pulled over dwayne ferguson, also nooun known as lusion. he had a young girl this the car. investigators say he brought her from oakland to the north bay three weeks ago to work as a prostitute. police arrested ferguson and returned the girl to her moment. now in oakland a memorial is growing for a local musician shot and killed after a performance outside the golden bowl bar on 14th street this afternoon. emile ona in a vaf easy played bass for the group the lucky jipts. police say he was hit by a vale stray bullet outside thor bachlt he was not the target. two men were fighting nearby. another innocent bystander was wounded. police are still looking for gunman. a woman faced attempted measure charges after marin county deputies say she covered a mill valley woman lighter fluid and held a lighter to her. on offduty marin county firefighter broke it up before a

fire was started. abc7 news reporter katie out a as spoke with the firefighter. >> reporter: in this case timing is everything and the vicious attack just the beginning of the story. apparently this woman targeted the neighborhood for days with her misguided vengeance. accusation of rape and murder cover this driveway. >> i wanted to figure out what was going on. >> reporter: it's part of the scene this firefighter drove up to this morning. a woman who lives in the neighborhood confronted the spray parchter. their fight spilled into the street. >>s approached the women i could snell lighter fluid and determined there was something else going on. sheriff county investigators say the 23-year-old sprayed the neighbor with lighter fluid and held a lighter. >> at this point we are pursuing charges of attempted murder. >> reporter: simultaneously the people who lived at the base of

reprimanded 43 of the state's 1800 judges for misconduct last year. the l.a. times reports the violations ranged from having sex in chambers to mistreating litigants. some judges made inappropriate comments on soechld, and one traffic judge delegated his job to his clerk. the commission does not discipline judges for legal errors. fully electric cars will sooner more affordable. a new study finds the cost of the expensive lithium ion battery is going down. also the operating cost of an e car could beat gasoline powered cars within five years. according to one estimate a full charge for a 300 hello mile range car could cost less than $10. compare that with 30 to $60 for a tank of gas. coming up negotiation on abc7 news at 6:00 easter sunday in san francisco goes old school one of the trunkiest races you will ever see. and today's rain was just a

he picked up the bird concerned it was too young to fly and in in danger. the officer brought the owl to a veterinary hospital where staff will care for it until it's old enough to return to the wild. i saw you in that video. >> i would tip over in the first if i have seconds of that race. weather this afternoon, it's pleasant out there. lots of sunshine at this hour. live doppler 7 hd the morning showers we had are a distant memory. it's cool as you step outside. temperatures mainly in the 50s. 55 in san francisco. 57 in oakland. 56 in hayward. 55 in napa. san jose currently at 8:00 degrees. satellite and radar will show you the quick moving line of showers early on this morning. now in the wake of that departing system we are turning to clear skies. you notice the sierra right now getting in on good snow. they will see possibly more than foot in some locations thanks to the next storm we are tracking.

look at this. the second storm right on the heels of the first one right now. just off the coast of washington and oregon. what this will do is dive south right over us in the next 24 hours. this storm going to give us soaking rain late monday into early tuesday. now, ahead this system the winds are going to pick up. early tomorrow morning wind gust around 6:00, 7:00 tomorrow morning. generally between 5 and 10 miles per hour. winds increase. k56 monday evening, winds gusts between 25 and 35 miles per hour. then comes the rain. sunday into monday we are mainly cloudy. early monday morning by 5:00 6:00. getting cloudy. 9:00 soaking showers in the north bay. early tuesday morning heavy rain over san francisco, oakland, even vallejo. pochs yellow and orange

indicating a pretty strong system. not out of the question to hear a rumble of thunder. potential for small hail. this system will push to the east tuesday morning. by 6:00. mainly dry across much of the bay area. notice heavy snow showers developing in the sierra. total rainfall this will be a good soaking storm, the most rain we've seen since early february. the north fwa and coast anywhere from three quarters to an inch and a half of rain. around the way half of an inch to as much of a quarter. south bay a half to three quarters of an inch of rain. winter storm warn tomorrow morning in sierra. snow levels low, 3500 feet, 14 inches possible at donner. kirkwood could see a foot and a half of snow once this system departs. overnight lows tonight. clouds increase falling into the mid and low 40s across much of the region. tomorrow it is a mainly first half of the monday. then we'll see the rain enter the picture in the evening. cool temperatures.
