>> reporter: the crowd erupting as the ncaa champion duke blue devils edge out the wisconsin badgers 68-63 in a nail-biting fight to the finish. duke's coach mike krzyzewski or coach k bringing home his fifth championship. it was a close game down to the end. the lead in the first half going back and forth 13 times. the first half ending in a tie, something that hasn't happened since 1988. >> and opens the half. burying a three. >> reporter: wisconsin came out swinging in the second half. >> a five-point lead for wisconsin. >> reporter: but duke hot on their heels thanks to two freshmen standout stars. >> a new star is born. >> reporter: grayson allen who barely left the bench earlier this season scored nine points in just 17 minutes earning the blue devils their first lead of the second half. >> drops again. >> reporter: grayson put us on his back and we went to him kind of exclusively because of his ability to drive and penetrate.

>> reporter: then came tyus jones, another all-star freshman keeping duke in the lead until the clock ran out. >> reporter: what's it feel like right now? >> it's one of those feelings that you're going to remember for the rest of your life. >> reporter: 18-year-old jones coached since kindergarten by his mom who also played point guard in college awarded most outstanding player. >> what do you want america to know? >> just that, you know, you can do anything you put your mind to. we set a goal at the beginning of the season. that was to win a national championship and through adversity we stuck to it. >> reporter: and jones texted coach k last year before he arrived at duke predicting they would win it all this year and, well, turns out he was right. robin. >> got that one right, alex, thank you very much. you were coached by your mom too. >> yeah, my mom was my coach. my mom was great. we did something right. >> exactly. but, you know, because okafor didn't have the best game.

a lot of fouls but those freshmen came through. and coach k. >> shows us it's a great team sport. it's not about one person. it's about the team. >> and tonight stay up again, uconn going for their tenth national championship going up against notre dame in the women's final. but now to that amazing rescue that was caught on camera. police and family searching for a little boy lost in the woods for four days reuniting him with his relieved parents this morning. abc's hamish macdonald has the latest and joins us. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, robin. it is an almost unbelievable rescue and it almost didn't happen. rescuers spotted something in the distance from the choppers in the sky so they turned back to investigate. watch as this 11-year-old boy lost all alone in the woods for four days shivering and hungry finally spots a helicopter flying overhead. >> just out of the corner of my eye just caught a flash of something. it was enough to make me get the guys to turn the aircraft around and go back and have a further look. >> reporter: rescuers slide down

this embankment to come to his aid. volunteers using chain saws to clear a path for a stretcher. at last luke shambrook who has autism is wrapped in a foil blanket to restore his body temperature. >> when you think about the time line and how many days he had been away and how many nights, four nights in this weather, it's been raining, cold. >> reporter: reunited with relieved parents. >> we've been overwhelmed by the response and we're very thankful that we live in a society that puts a lot of effort into finding children. who have gone missing. >> reporter: luke's ordeal began three days ago when he wandered off from his parents' campsite at 9:30 into the morning. three days into the search rescuers spot his hat and as police choppers started scouring the area, they find luke sitting here in dense forest with nothing to eat or drink. >> we were just absolutely over the moon. obviously we've -- all of us in the crew of parents ourselves

and can only imagine the parents of luke, what they have been going through. >> reporter: this could have ended so differently. for luke and for his family. it is nothing short of an easter miracle. >> for us to find him in the condition he was, it's just amazing. >> reporter: well, luke is now recovering in hospital. we're told that he is in a stable condition and police there in australia are describing him as one strong courageous and determined young man. george. >> boy, i'll say. what an incredible story. thank you, hamish. we turn to a new terror arrest in new york city. the fbi charging a man with plotting to target the president, police and military personnel. it comes amid growing concern about the number of american men and women inspired by isis and abc's brian ross here tracking all the latest. good morning. >> good morning, with one arrest after another federal counterterror agents are scrambling to keep up with the onslaught of americans who at least online say they want to join isis or carry out terror attacks on their own inside the u.s. the latest arrest involves a

fourth person in a new york city cell the fbi says plotted to assassinate president obama. bomb coney island or murder uniformed police and military personnel inside the u.s. but it's not just men who are doing the plotting. >> my name is noelle velentzas and i am from the united states of america. >> reporter: the fbi says this new york woman and a girlfriend also wanted to attack the united states of america. in this online video she seems hardly threatening praising a local homeless shelter that took her in. >> it was a turning point in my life. >> reporter: but the fbi said she had a secret life and abc news discovered she apparently was part of a social media pipeline for young american muslim women, a terror sisterhood of sorts. >> having a woman recruit other women, they are going to let their guard down, they're more likely to trust her and they're more likely to be vulnerable to her. >> reporter: after her arrest last week on charges, others in that female online community sent warnings that the fbi was

on to the woman who they called sis, not her, said one. uh-huh was the response. delete her from your phone. federal agents say the two women are just the latest in a growing list of american muslim women who have been successfully recruited by other women to join isis and al qaeda. most of the women have been recruited to go overseas to become the wives of jihadi fighters and bear their children. the fbi says the women in new york wanted to stay home and wage war against their own country, george. >> okay, brian, thanks very much. >> all right, george. >> to the latest in the boston marathon bombing trial. closing arguments wrapped up. the jury now set to decide whether dzhokhar tsarnaev is guilty. abc's tom llamas has the latest and joins us from boston. good morning, tom. >> reporter: robin, good morning to you. in less than two hours jurors will receive this thick packet. the list of charges, 30 of them in total, during closing arguments the defense told jurors both sides agree on the who, what, where and when.

the big question for them is why. these are the moments after the boston marathon bombing, a gory chaos. prosecutors say it was all part of dzhokhar tsarnaev's plan to punish america, reminding jurors in their closing argument of dzhokhar's path of terror down boylston street coordinating with his older brother tamerlan over a cell phone, never walking away from the plan even after seeing a family nearby. instead, planting his bomb, accomplishing his mission, prosecutors saying these children weren't innocent to him. they were american. the jury also seeing this photo, dzhokhar in front of an islamist flag. prosecutors playing the so-called jihadi music the brothers listened to. prosecutors saying they felt they were soldiers. the defense calling the bombings a senseless act but showing the court again fingerprints, receipts and computer forensics

pointing to one bombmaker. one architect of terror, dzhokhar's older brother, tamerlan. the defense saying dzhokhar was a teenager, a follower, even a flunky but not a terrorist. massachusetts former attorney general even giving dzhokhar's defense lawyer judy clarke credit for that strategy. >> she almost acted as a prosecutor against the older brother, in other words, making the older brother the main actor and she made this point but for the older brother, this younger brother would not have been pulled into this enterprise and this never would have happened. >> reporter: now, the jury is made up of seven women and five men including a nurse and a student, we know they'll be deliberating for awhile, robin. >> because we saw that thick packet you were showing us that they will be receiving this morning so there's really no way of telling how long they will be deliberating, right, tom. >> reporter: legal analysts tell us if they go through the packet and analyze the charges, and they are complicated, it could take at least a few days, we do

know that all the jurors have said in one way or another they are open to the death penalty. robin. >> thank you, tom. we'll move on to politics now and the next official candidate for president, kentucky senator rand paul will launch his campaign in louisville pitching himself as a different kind of republican. abc's jon karl covering the kickoff. paul is trying to set himself apart from the pack on substance and style. >> reporter: he sure is. he is a different kind of republican. he is a republican who has supported the president on his efforts to strike a nuclear deal with iran. he is also somebody who has proposed easing anti-drug laws. he has suggested that the war on terror has gone too far and pushed for privacy protections. he has in the past anyway proposed big cuts to defense spending and on style, this is the most tech savvy of any of the candidates in either party. he's somebody who loves to use twitter, even snapchat. he will be holding a facebook town hall meeting after his announcement today and, george, that will also be something you can see on periscope. >> okay.

if you have periscope. also in polling he starts out in the middle of the pack overall but with real pockets of strength in iowa and new hampshire, the key states. >> reporter: that's right. if you look nationally at the polls down near the back but much stronger in iowa and new hampshire, places he has spent a long time and places that his father who ran for president several times did quite well in 2012, if you remember, ron paul, the father came in third, a very close third in iowa. second in new hampshire. he's hoping to get some of those supporters. one thing to note, his father will not be seen much on the campaign trail. will be at the announcement but giving no interviews, something very unusual for ron paul. >> yeah, the son does not want to be tied to all of the views of the father. okay, jon karl, thanks very much. time to move on to amy with the other top story including this violent case of road rage in texas. >> that's right. the victim we know survived after being shot in the head after she beeped her horn at another driver, overnight the suspect in that road rage shooting appeared in court and

abc's ryan owens tells us how police were finally able to capture him. >> reporter: relief in houston, that 22-year-old dietrich evans is off the street and behind bars. evans, a known gang member in court overnight charged with the road rage shooting of kay hafford. >> this is where i heard the boom right here. >> reporter: police arrested evans at his houston apartment. detectives finding his white suv and in it a gun they believe he used in the march 20th crime. hafford helped police come up with this sketch and late monday she picked evans out of a police lineup. hafford was headed to work in houston more than two weeks ago when she honked at a driver she says cut her off. minutes later police say he pulled up right next to her, fired a single shot through her passenger side window and took off. >> i don't know how i did it but i pulled over here. >> reporter: despite being shot in the head, hafford somehow grabbed her iphone. >> i heard siri, that's when i cried, when i heard her saying who do you want to call? i said 911.

when the 911 operator picked up, i lost it. >> reporter: she's relieved he's off the street but has a message. for other aggressive drivers. >> as much as you want to retaliate think twice because you may be in the situation like i am but you may not make it. >> reporter: for "good morning america," ryan owens, abc news, dallas. >> our thanks to ryan for that. a tragedy in maryland is serving as an important warning about the danger of carbon monoxide in our homes. a single father and his seven children were found dead, the apparent victims of carbon monoxide poisoning. officials say the family may have been trying to use a generator to provide electricity. power was shut off because of an unpaid bill. five explosions were heard as a fire erupted at this roofing company in maryland. the wind shifted and flames destroyed two fire trucks at the scene. their wreckage among the debris. no serious injuries reported. the smoke could be seen ten miles away in washington, d.c.

president obama is not buying israel's latest demand concerning the nuclear deal with iran. prime minister benjamin netanyahu says any nuclear deal must require iran to recognize israel. but president obama tells npr linking the two would be a, quote, fundamental misjudgment. a remarkable scene. in this subway station in moscow. a woman's leg got stuck between the train and platform. she couldn't move. you see there dozens of good samaritans came together, took their positions and began rocking that train back and forth and created just enough space. there she is. she was -- her leg was freed. incredible, incredible. finally we all know turnovers in basketball are bad news on the court but you need to check out this turnover by basketball superstar russell westbrook. this one happened off the court after he won a car for being named mvp. at the all-star game. instead of keeping it, he turned it over to someone who needed it a lot more than he did.

we're also going to hear from the ball boy inthis morning. that cleveland police officer on charge for killing two unarmed people. michael brelo charged with involuntary manslaughter after a high-speed chase ended in a spray of gunfire and steve osunsami is on the scene in ohio. good morning, steve. >> reporter: good morning, george. police say this officer fired a total of 49 times and he's on trial here for the next few weeks because prosecutors say he reloaded during the gunfire. he faces up to 25 years in prison. is not expected to testify at this trial and a judge will decide this case. take a look for yourself. this 22-mile high-speed police chase through cleveland involving more than 100 police officers that went terribly wrong and this morning, one of those officers a former marine is fighting for his freedom. >> mr. brelo who was the driver of zone car 217 fired at least 49 times. >> reporter: authorities charged

michael brelo with voluntary manslaughter for what happened at the end of that police chase after police fired nearly 100 shots at the fleeing car. prosecutors have produced this animation showing the chase adding the realtime police radio traffic. listen for the gunfire. the shooting lasting less than 18 seconds. gkt gunfire] >> reporter: brelo got on top of the hood of the chevy malibu and fired 15 times through this windshield. prosecutors say they have evidence it was brelo who killed 43-year-old timothy russell and 30-year-old malissa williams. he's pleading not guilty. >> i have never been so afraid in my life. >> reporter: in an an interview he said he thought the couple was shooting back. >> i thought my partner and i were being shot and we would be killed. at which point i drew my weapon and i shot through the windshield. >> reporter: but the subsequent investigation could not find any guns the victims may have had.

prison. another terror arrest on u.s. soil. a fourth new york city man has been charged with plotting to support isis. he's accused of raising money for a cell that planned to target the president, police and american soldiers. meanwhile, abc news has learned that a new york woman recently charged with plotting a terror attack was apparently part of a secret social media pipeline for young american-muslim women. well, today the u.s. postal service issues a stamp honoring poet and activist maya angelou but there is a bit of controversy on the stamp. it's a quote evoking angelou's famous book, "i know why the caged bird sings." just one problem. someone else said that quote first, a children's author. however, the author has come forward and says she hopes the stamp is successful. in medical news there is a flu epidemic in the chicago area among dogs. one animal hospital says it has never seen an outbreak of canine flu-like this. more than 1,000 cases and at

and also tv hits, "friday night lights" and "empire," and now he is on a mission to inspire curiosity sharing lessons from a lifetime in his new book "a curious mind: the secret to a bigger life." well, bryan glazer. this is something you were born with. you were blessed with curiosity. >> i was born with it but i think everybody was born with curiosity. i don't think i'm a special person for that. although i did have a grandma, grandma sonia that said my curiosity is going to make me special, and if i work it, it will enlargen my world. >> boy, was she right. and you described it in hollywood as your secret weapon and i love the story about how you got your first job. >> oh, i got my first job -- i just graduated. i didn't know what to do out of college and i'm in my apartment complex and i overhear a telephone -- a conversation outside my window. >> outside on the street. >> well, it was in this little courtyard and one guy says, i just had the easiest, cushiest job. i never heard the word cushiest before. i closed my drape ss so i could

overhear where it was. i dialed warner brother's legal department. within a couple of hours i got that job. >> they needed somebody right away. it demonstrated a quality you need along with curiosity, a kind of fearlessness. you got to be able to follow up. make the call no matter what. >> you have to make the call no matter what. you do have to have a little fearlessness. you have to really be willing to disrupt your comfort zone and that would mean not only have the courage to make the call or to say hello to somebody and ask them the question that enters their mind-set or psyche, you're living in their world on their -- with their rules. >> and you've been doing it now for 35 years. back here on the wall behind us all the people you've had curiosity conversations with. just a small sample actually. you've had hundreds of then. leading to so many fascinating stories. you got to start out by telling us about michael jackson. i was reading about the time you met him. finally after many calls he came to a meeting with you and you

asked him to take off his glove. >> i asked him to take his gloves off because -- >> he did. >> he did but i didn't feel like i could have a real conversation with him, i mean a real one like trying to understand how he created music with those gloves on. i just -- that was a threshold so i said, nervously, would you take your gloves off? and i paused, and he stared at me and he took his gloves off and he became mozart. he literally was able to granulate exactly how he creates music. lyrics, beats, songs and he became a completely professorial type of person. >> and opened up with just the simplest question. i think that's what can be so disarming is well getting people to explain themselves in some way. >> yes. >> how about with princess diana. >> princess diana was extraordinary. i sent her many letters and -- i would even call the palace. i mean, sounds crazy, but then i met -- >> they must have thought you were a little bit crazy. >> it was -- it was a courageous

act or -- but i did, and i got together with her. what i found was that she had such deep humanity, it was palpable. you could feel her humanity. the way she treated people, she observed everything in the room and every person in the room and cared about making them feel good, and it was a powerful -- >> you know what, not everyone has a hollywood producer's rolodex but you really end the book and i think this is important, about advice on how people can might put curiosity to work for them every day. >> i think people can put curiosity to work. that's my mission really. that's the reason i wrote the book "a curious mind," everybody can employ this superpower. for me every one of these movies and every one of these people, every one of these television shows came from utilizing curiosity as a genuine real tool and it makes your world instead of smaller much bigger because you're entering the mind of somebody else and it transports you and it's generous

so it really does work, and, look, i have a bunch of kids. if i ask my son, thomas, 15 years old, how was your day, he doesn't even answer the question. >> i've tried that. >> if i say to him, which i did say the other day, i said what do you think you're actually good at? i got a half hour conversation. so when you just enter what their problems are, their issues or their expertise in the case of all these people, you get real answers. it does expand your life. >> we're just about out of time. i got to ask you about "empire." >> okay. >> what a smash hit this year. give us one tidbit. >> all right. one tidbit on "empire." okay, because i was preasked this and i tell you, eminem i know loves our show and i produced "eight mile" with eminem. i'm going to beg him to get on our show. he and oprah winfrey. somehow i'm going to get one or both of them on our show. >> if anybody can do it bryan glazer can do.
