dzhokhar tsarnaev slumped in his seat in court as he learned he could now face the death penalty. the jury deliberated for more than 11 hours over two days coming back with an aross the board contribution. finding the 21-year-old responsible for the boston marathon bombing. the deaths of lindsey lou krystle campbell and martin richard. including the murder of m.i.t. police officer sean collier. survivors responding. tweeting today's verdict will never replace the lives that were lost and so dramatically changed. but it is a release, and one step closer to closure. the trial now moving into the sentencing phase. the defense team led by attorney judy clark who successfully fought to keep past clients including unibomber off death row will do the same for tsarnaev. >> the question for him is can we save his life. >> the only other possibility is life in prison. if the defense can convince

this building. the yellow tape is still up. investigators are on scene. this is the city's first officer-involved shooting in two years. police responded to an armed robbery at the sunnyvale liquor shop. an officer-involved shooting. initial reports detailing the frantic moments that led up to it. >> he's got the knife. i'm on the east end of the store. get your hand in your pockets? >> within minutes the confrontation turned deadly in an alleyway behind the store. the suspect, a white man in his mid 20s was shot by the responding officer. taken to a local hospital and declared dead. investigators spent the afternoon combing through the sen. >> we're still investigating what went down. the suspect was armed with a knife. a shooting occurred. a knife was located at the

scene. >> nearby business owners say the area is safe adding they've never seen anything like this before. >> we've had ours matched once or twice. but just petty things. but nothing near like this. >> the liquor store is closed for the afternoon. the officer who was alone when the shooting took place, had been placed on routine paid administrative leave. in sunnyvale, chris nguyen abc 7 news. >> fire crews were able to keep a two-alarm fire safe. they were there just before 1:00 this afternoon. firefighters were concerned the neighboring building would also burn. investigators believe the fire may have started in a dryer, those the exact cause remains under investigation. an escapeded inmate is back in custody after being on the run for more than a month. >> the accused child molester was captured by u.s. marshals in mississippi yesterday. that's his new booking photo on the left next to an older one.

scattered cumulus clouds. certainly a different picture from yesterday. our season to date. the rainfall totals are fairly close to average for this time of the season. but the drought is still extreme and severe statewide. speaking of, let's look at snow pack, which is pitifully low. even though it's higher than a couple of days ago, it's still at record low levels. for this time of the season. only 8% of average statewide. here's a live look at the the rooftop camera. it will be clear and cool overnight. mild afternoons into the weekend, but there's a chance of rain early next week. right now high pressure is rebuilding and taking control of the weather picture once again. that will bring us a clearing trend to last into the weekend.

jurors who convicted dzhokhar tsarnaev will consider whether he should be sentenced to death or life in prison. a jury found him guilty on all 30 counts for the boston marathon bombing that killed three people. the sentencing phase is expected to start on monday. they spoke with the people who witnessed the bombing. they were there at the time. he tweeted about talking. an accused child molester who escaped from custody has been captured. david louie tweets that janelle carter was arrested in gulfport mississippi. more on how carter managed to get away and evade deputies for more than a month. he was on the run that long. that's coming up at 6:00. look for that. and the police commission is set to consider the the case against officers involved in the racist

a familiar sight after several recent police officer shootings. the mayor announced today the city will purchase 250 body cameras, so every officer on the force equipped. police are investigating a murder. investigators say a 33-year-old sacramento woman was found shot to death near stokes street, just before 10:00 last night. she was dragged out of the car after the shooting. the driver took off. two other people who were in the car stayed behind. a woman and child. police say the woman knew her killer and the killing was not random san francisco too many a step to improve the quality of public housing. for the ground breaking ceremony of the new housing development in the bay view's hunter point

a dramatic rescue from a burning building in downtown los angeles. the fire broke out late last night on the fifth floor of a six-story building. nearly 200 firefighters swarmed the tower o to save those trapped inside. >> i thought i wasn't going to make it. >> ricardo and his wife were trappeded in smoke and fire. >> i had to open up the windows. >> they called 911. officials say 170 firefighters from 30 different is companies respondeded to the blaze, with their ladders stretched to the limit, they rescued then safely put the fire out. langs deputy fire chief spoke about the rescue. >> if they would have stayed up there, didn't escape it could have been detrimental to them. >> it had no automatic fire

they say the dmv takes away half a million licenses every year from the poorest of the moor whom can't pay their fines and then trapped in a life of poverty. with this new report out today they are pushing for change. robert is one of the estimated 4 million californians without a driver's license because he couldn't afford to pay the fines. >> i am very frustrated. i have a foam to cake air f. >> he has not been able to drive for the past year and a half and hasn't been able to work either. this started when he got three traffic tickets one of which he cleared through community service, or so he thought. >> if i can work for 365 tickets then they add the assessment fee to it but they can't do the work program for assessment fee. what's the point? >> his fines tripled because he kept fall behind on payments. >>ing this needs to change. they say the state punishes people who cannot afford to pay

>> the shooting took place blind the building but the actual armed robbery happened at a liquor shop. if you look blind me you can see the yellow tape is still up. they'll be looking at surveillance video in the area. we are told the officer was alone when the shooting took place. police got the call just after 11:00. an armed robbery at a sunny vale strip mall. an officer involved shooting in an alleyway. >> he had no money. just cigarettes when the cars denied him. he flashed a knife. >> he's got the knife. he's got the fife. on the east end of the store. he did not comply. take your hand out of your pocket. >> a deadly confrontation between the suspect and the police officer. >> shots fired.

suspect is dead. >> copy. shots fired. want is down. >> wii still investigating what went on in the alley way. the suspect was armed. officer contacted the suspect. again, a shooting occurred. a knife was located at the scene. a white man in his mid 20s was shot by the responding officer taken to a local hospital and declared dead. neighboring business owners were stun by what happened. in nearly 25 years he can't recall such a chaotic scene. >> we had these snatched once or twice. but petty things. nothing near like this. >> same for customers who say the area is safe. >> i thought it was firecrackers or something. like people were playing around or something. the police officer who was alone when the shooting took place has been placed on routine paid administrative leave. >> a
