live from the kgo broadcast center, this is abc 7 news. >> good afternoon and thank you for joins us, i'm ama daetz. >> the giant, the home opener at att park and the world series champions and they did have a few surprises for champions including a tribute, and a classic shot at madison bum gartner doing his victory lap on the horse. >> we have live team coverage this afternoon. wayne friedman, and mike schumann is live from the ballpark with a look at the

day's festivities. >> reporter: there's nothing like the home opener and it seems to be a lot more magical. the giants are 12 and 3 at at&t park since they moved here in 2000 and today coming off a world series championship was really special. let's show you what happened. they started out with the entire team walking out from center field. the fans went crazy with bruce botch bocci and tim lincecum. just a special moment for everybody, and as i mentioned the place just went nuts and then the introductions happened and of course, colorado was introduced first. i think their team had to stand there for about an hour and i would have taken it back to the clubhouse at that point and even the giants players were getting restless when you have this long of a pregame. the marshal tucker band singing the anthem. that was my old college band at florida state. good to see them out here at at&t. and then a tribute to 230r78er

giants broadcaster lon simmons who passed away last week and they threw out the first pitches and it was quite exciting to see and madison bumgartner finally got his wish and jumped on the horse and delivered the 2014 championship ban tore jeremy out in right center and then, of course jerry took the banner, ran it up the pole. as i mentioned, the third world series championship banner in the last five years doesn't get much better than that, and then, of course, rookie chris heston making his second start with the first pitch. so just quite a pregame for everybody involved and over 40,000 people either called in sick today were working from home and, boy, just quite a pregame festivities out here. unfortunately the giants came

live and post them using the #whereyoulive. today the sdwrients honored a fan who was killed by a hit and run driver during a police chase. >> tragedy hit sunday night when san francisco resident, was struck as they fled the police. bridget who friends describe as funny, intelligent and caring and was an avid giants fan who had planned to attend today's game. >> so sad. police still have not found the robbers whose car hit checker. they did find that car abandoned on treasure island. coming up on abc 7 news at 5:00, the reporter talks to her mother and looks at san francisco's policy on police chases. dive teams resume searching today for the body of a motorcyclist who plunged off the antioch bridge. the cyclist hit a car and fell 135 feet into the san joaquin river. callers reported seeing

motorcyclists traveling at high speeds and weaving in and out of traffic. the coast guard, and firefighters used helicopters to look for him without luck and called off the search for today a short time ago. >> a dublin man is one of the three victims who died while diving for abalone off the mend on sin on county coast. they were with two other divers when they were caught by rough waves yesterday. an off-duty firefighter who was fishing nearby saw them struggling and he called for help. a rescue boat picked up two men and they managed to get to a rocky area and firefighters said the divers were a group of friends from the east bay renting a vacation home nearby. it's time to get a check on our weather on this monday. >> and outside is spencer christian, and it's a breezy day. >> it is. much different from yesterday and quite cool. we do have sunny skies and here's a look at live doppler 7hd and little in the way of high clouds and thin clouds and up to the north-northwest we do

have rain pushing into the eureka area and a few drops from that system can work their way into the bay area and right now we're looking at gusty winds up to 31 miles per hour and 28, hayward and 22 at oakland, san carlos and mountain view around the bay area and most looks are pretty windy. here is a live view looking out over san francisco and blue skies. 64 in oakland and san carlos, 61, 65 in san jose and 67 at half moon bay. check out blue skies looking westward from our camera, 68, santa rosa and upper 60s in fairfield, concord and livermore and as we look westward again here is the first forecast. we'll see a few clouds tonight and it will be breezy and cool with a chance of some spotty drizzle. it won't be very widespread and mostly clear, breezy and cool tomorrow morning and tomorrow afternoon, sunny and breezy once again, but we do have a big warm-up coming our way later in the week and i'll give you more

details on that, harry and ama. a police officer is under arrest on drug-related charges in san francisco. san pablo police said they tipped off the sfpd after they became aware of the officer's illegal activities. police aren't saying exactly what he did nor are they releasing his name. the officer had already been relieved of duty and put on paid administrative leave before the arrest. crews continue to clean up a cement spill in oakland creek. the cement was spilled when a valve was left open. the cement clogged a half mile of that creek. today crews that were contracted by east bay municipal utility district cleaned up the area around clairemont and roto rooter was called in to help fix this mess. the company removed cement debris from parts of underneath homes along 30-inch pipes and that clean up is expected to last for several more days. getting around san jose just

got a little bit easier. sky 7hd shows a brand new ramp connecting northbound 280 to northbound 880. the new connector is expected to ease traffic getting on to the freeway. drivers heading northbound will no longer have to share the ramp with those heading to stephens creek boulevard. the improvement project broke ground. a double shooting closes a busy east bay section for hours and coming up the victims injured and the investigation under way. airline soars to the top. the good news for virgin america. why passengers overall have a reason to grumble. >> new at 4:30, one day after hillary clinton makes it official marco rubio makes the race for the white house and we'll preview. he'll answer them here live just a little bit later just search for michael finney. >> at 4:10, time for our first

sunny valleyvale and the bay area, this is abc 7 news. traffic is a mess at one of the busiest freeway interchanges in san jose. here is a live picture from sky 7hd. all lanes of 280 where it connects to northbound 680 are shut down right now because of a

man threatening to jump from an overpass. you're going to see all of the interchanges there, but look, few cars on the roadway. the man is standing on the overpass that connects 680 with southbound 101. 101 right now remains open. however, traffic is backed up for miles in both directions and you can see no cars on that area where all lanes of 280 are shut down right now. we will keep you updated. you can always get the latest on twitter on abc 7 news, bay area. busy berkeley intersection is back open this afternoon after an early morning shooting. two people had to go to the hospital and abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield has the story. >> reporter: shots were fired at ashby and shattuck and residents said it was rapid fire. >> it was like anti-aircraft fire. like, really fast you know? ever hear like when a laser goes off, and you can hear the puff at the end? sort of like that. >> reporter: the two young men

in this car were hit and the people in the other car got away. >> we do have two male victims in their 20s that were injured and they were transported to a local hospital and they're expected to survive and they did receive pretty serious injuries during this exchange of fire. >> reporter: police say it could have been worse and some bullets hit the station on the corner and an apartment building on ashby. >> it was pretty scary for the neighborhood. in this case one of the apartment buildings are occupied and those apartments are occupied and easily we could have had more victims in this case that could have been injured. >> it's disheartening because this area, i mean there's a lot going on here. it's culturally pretty rich in this area but disheartening. >> reporter: residents we spoke to were disappointed to hear about the gun fire but tell us they aren't too worried about their safety. >> i mean around this neighborhood every day and i don't feel unsafe. >> i'm not going live my life worried every second. i'm not messing with anyone, so -- maybe this was a random act, you know?

>> reporter: that's his speculation. police haven't said what they think the motive was behind the shooting and they're also looking into whether it was a shootout if both parties were shooting at each other. it's all under investigation and they haven't made any arrest. in berkeley, amy hollyfield abc 7 news. people on a cruise ship that arrived in san diego got sick with the norovirus during the voyage. they were sick during the course of the 15-day trip and almost all had recovered by the time the ship docked and the centers for disease control says it's investigating exactly what caused the outbreak. the norovirus leads to vomiting diarrhea and fever and most recover within three days but it is an unpleasant three days. virgin america tops the list for the third consecutive year. the barrelling game-based airline scored well in three of the four categories including fewest lost bags and fewest denied boardings and fewest customer complaints. it did slip a bit in on-time

ratings and the other airlines include hawaiian airlines at number two, delta at three, jetblue at fourth and alaska is in at number five and overall the airlines declined from 2013 which was the best ever year in overall performance. two bay area based retailers are among 13 national chains being put on notice by the state of new york for possible work rule violations. new york's attorney general is investigating reports that the gap and williams sonoma are among companies using a practice called on-call scheduling which could violate a new york law. the staffing protocol requires employees to be available on short notice for busy days. >> it's committed to establishing sustainable scheduling practices target, sears and jc penny are among the retailers being invest gaited. health news. antibiotic news in farm animals is growing. >> and it may be dangerous to

bees. jane king has more in today's wellness report. >> the fda says antibiotic use grew on farms despite more regulations against it. one particular antibiotic was up 2.5% since 2012 and tetra psyche lean use was up and it could make people resistant to the disease. meanwhile, lowe's will stop selling pesticides linked to honey bee decline. it will join home depot in pulling pesticides used on many lawns and gardens. honey bees pollinate food and there's concern that their decline could lead to a tightening of the food supply. makers of candy is warned about misleading nutrition claims and new york's attorney general says the company behind the vitamin-infused snack may not be following the rules. a letter to the company says vitamins must be added to the snack and just a minimal fruit content inside isn't sufficient.

from the nasdaq, i'm jane king. i could stay outside although a bit blustery with the wind coming through. it must be what is holding back the giants offense. these winds not only blow when they're at the place. >> you're right. it almost feels like winter. i wish i'd brought my heavy coat. it is windy and it is a bit chilly for this time of year and let's take a look at live doppler 7 hd and we have clear skies outside and a few thin, wispy high clouds and we may get a few clouds overnight and check out the 24-hour temperature change than at this hour and 14 degrees cooler in novato than in this time yesterday and 13 degrees cooler in hayward and livermore. quite a cooldown from yesterday and we'll warm up later in the week and looking at the golden gate bridge and these are our forecast features and we'll get a little spotty drizzle and it's possible and not very widespread and we'll see sunny breezy

conditions tomorrow and the warm up begins mid-week wednesday and continues through the end of the week. here's what's happening in the atmosphere. we have a dry weak cold front approaching us and producing some light showers already up in the northwestern corner of the country and that will sweep through overnight and the northwest corner of the state, i should say and behind that front, high pressure delves in and we'll have a big warm up as i mentioned beginning wednesday and let's talk about overnight conditions and the forecast animation and starting at 7:00 as the clouds sweeps through. a chance of spotty drizzle and no widespread significant rainfall is expected as the front sweeps on through before the morning rush begins and it will be breezy tomorrow behind the front and mainly sunny and here's our warm up that's coming our way and starting wednesday we'll see inland highs and right around 80 degrees in the warmest spots and we'll see mid-80s inland and upper 70s on the coast and by friday look for high temperatures near 90 inland and continued low 80s around the

bay and 70 around the coast. overnight, mainly clear, cool and lows in the mid to upper 40s and tomorrow, sunny in the south bay with highs in the upper 60s and mid to upper 60s on the peninsula and upper 50s to near 60 on the coast and downtown san francisco will top out in the north bay and santa rosa 68 and 66 and fremont and we'll have highs mainly in the upper 60s. here is the accuweather seven-day forecast and look at the warm up near wednesday through friday and temperatures are moderate a bit over the weekend and that will be a gradual cooldown. we have lovely summerlike weather coming our way and we'll have to wait a couple of days to feel the warm-up. larry and ama? >> the 360 camera in san francisco on the embarcadero here and this is heading southbound here right now, just past brannon and approaching at&t park and because the giants

wondering this afsh. many are questioning why the h has a red arrow pointing to the right because red is traditionally the color that republicans use. others are saying it looks like the fedex logo or a hospital entry sign. a man hunt in north carolina is under way this afternoon after a deadly shooting at a community college. it happened this morning at wayne community college in goldsboro. authorities say the victim was a longtime campus employee. police are looking for a man they believe entered a campus building and shot the employee with a rifle. it's believed the two men knew each other and the accused shooter used to attend the school. no one else was injured. >> convicted murderer jody arias will spend the rest of her life in prison. an arizona judge formally sentenced the 34-year-old for the 2008 killing of her former boyfriend travis alexander. a jury deadlocked last month putting arias' fate in the hands of a judge. the mistrial ruled out the death penalty.

arias will not be able to get out on parole. a second child aboard an all-terrain vehicle that crashed into a pond has now died. the 3-year-old boy, only 3 years old was riding on the atv with a 5-year-old friend in lincoln, 30 miles northeast of sacramento. the chp says the boy his been riding around the property and they somehow ended up in the pond unfortunately and nobody saw exactly how this happened. paramedics administered cpr to both boys before they were airlifted to the medical center. his parents were not cited or arrested, but may face charges as the investigation continues. governor brown ordered and now the water districts are responding. east bay mud is unveiling its drought management plan which includes fines and penalties for those who use the most water, but some wonder if the district is going far enough. abc 7 news reporter laura anthony is live with the story. laura?

>> reporter: the signs are everywhere like comanche is almost empty. on tuesday, staff will ask the district's board of directors to declare a stage four drought, the highest level possible. >> that's a critical drought. that's as bad as it gets on east bay mud. there's no survey and it's the same story in the east bay watershed. east bay mud will unveil its surcharge system. the lowest water users, those using 98 gallons per day or less will see their bill increase 17% or less, about $4.99 per month. average user 246 gallons per day would receive a 24% increase, about 1165 per month and the highest users consuming nearly 1500 gallons per day would see their rate jump 45%

a chunk of highway overpass fell on to a car this morning killing one person inside. it happened in bonnie lake not far from tacoma. construction crews were installing a sidewalk on the overpass when a chunk of concrete crashed down. >> we are continuing to follow a developing story from san jose. traffic is a mess right now at one of the busiest freeway interchanges in san jose. this is a live look from sky 7 hd right now all lanes of 280 where it connects to northbound 680 are shut down because of a man threatening to jump from an overpass. he's standing on the overpass that connects 680 with southbound 101. 101 remains open however traffic remains backed up for miles in both directions and 280 shut

down and no cars there. >> it's time for a live look for other traffic in the bay area with larry. >> we'll take another live look at 280 northbound. as you recall, we were on the embarcadero and from the southbound direction and approaching king street near at&t park and we're right at the point where the off-ramp is right here. if you stay to the left you will head down the embarcadero and we have 40,000 people roughly 40,000 or more heading out of the giants game because that game just ended so this is going to be very slow. traffic heading back in the other direction as you can see. southbound is much better and that's clear at this moment. let's get a check of the forecast outside with spencer christian. >> okay, larry. we have sunny skies right now. mainly it's breezy and cool and here's live doppler 7 hd and we'll have this weather paternal though a front may sweep through tonight that will bring us light drizzle. tomorrow, nationally, this is the weather picture. we'll see thunderstorms from the

mid atlantic states to the southeast and it will be mainly quiet and warm in the central part of the country and a high of 80 degrees in fargo, north dakota tomorrow and a few showers in the pacific northwest and across the state of california tomorrow we may see light showers around eureka and most of the state will be sunny and dry and cooler than average and cooler than it's been lately and breeze owe the coast and that includes the bay area where we'll see highs ranging from upper 50s at the coast and mid-60s in the bay and we do have a big warm up coming our way and it will look like this in san jose in the seven days ahead and the warm up starts on wednesday across the entire bay area and look for high temperatures reaching 84 degrees for thursday, friday and saturday and that's indicative of what we can expect in all of our inland locations at the end of the week we'll see high temperatures in the mid to upper 80s in some spots and the temperatures will gradually taper off sunday and monday it won't be a sharp drop-off and we have very warm and summerlike

covering cupertino, concord wine country and all the bay area, this is abc 7 news. in maryland a couple is under scrutiny once again from child protective services after their children were found at a park without adult supervision. 6-year-old dvora and her 10-year-old brother rafi was picked up by police after someone spotted their kids all alone and called 911. cps held the children for hours before they were reunited with their parents. >> it says that we will not leave them unattended at all and i'm not going to risk my

kids being snatched again like this by cps. >> this is the third time the parents have been in trouble for letting their kids roam freely. they call it free range parenting and claim that it builds independence, but police call it illegal. the state law in maryland says a child under 8 must be under the care of a reliable person who is at least 13 years old. the fountain of youth can't be found in a jar. the fda is issuing a warning about exaggerated claims by beauty cream companies and ongoing effort to keep companies in checks, the fda sent warning labels to try vekt in. they can't treat a disease like acne, increase collagen and revive cells. it described one product as clinically proven to change the anatomy of a wrinkle. a drf dermatology at stanford health care says there is no magical fix to aging skin. >> it's not a magic wand and it will not take away your

bart and muni have their own rules. let's start with muni. first of all, your animals cannot be on muni during rush hour. so in the morning and in the afternoon they can't be there when everyone is trying to get to work or to home. other than that, you can have your animal inside an approved carrier on muni. that's always okay or you can have your dog on a leash if it is muzzled and you can only have one animal per muni car. are you guys following this? >> yeah. >> we have looked into this so much because we got a lot of questions about this. so that's it for muni. go online and check the rules so you know the same thing. >> basically one animal per bus or per car. >> now i'll throw this to bart. oh, and by the way on muni you've got to pay. whatever you pay to be on muni, that's right, you have to pay for your animal. whatever your fee is same fee.

as part of the voter-approved initiative by $14 an hour by 2015. sergio quintana talked with two small businesses who said they are struggling to find creative wage. >> big movies based on comics like the avengers and marvel should mean big business for the comic experience but the shop owner says san francisco's coming hike in the minimum wage is forcing new strategies just to stay open. >> i have a budget, and i knew that i could meet that budget but to suddenly have that increased by $80,000 out of the blue is kind of difficult. >> unlike other small businesses that can hike some prices of the products to make up the extra revenue brian says he can't do that. >> why not just increase the price of what you're selling. >> we can't because it literally has the price printed on the cover. >> to stay afloat he is launching a graphic novel club
