from the embarcadero to get to what fans paid on opening day not cheap, lyanne. >> reporter: i don't want to be a debbie downer here dan but i have to tell you charging $100? many of these independent garages were doing today, can we say quietly gouging fans? >> watch closely. this is what a free market economy looks like. the price for a parking space jumps from $70 to $80 just like that. >> we just made it for 70 over there and it was going up to 80. every hour closer to the hour it will go up another 10 or $20. and if you blinked you would have missed the parking garage across the street raise its prices, too. from 80 to $100. >> opening day. we're die hard fans you know? we'll pay $100 if we have to. >> on any given day these parking garages on townsend street charge $18 a day, but raised their prices a bit on game days because of their

proximity to the ballpark. today was one of those days they knew they could raise their prices sky high. >> no, it's not too much. people accept it. >> these parking garages are not managed by the san francisco metropolitan transportation agency so they're not regulated. they can charge what they liked. >> i parked there 16 times last year. >> is it ridiculous? >> yes i do. >> but you pay it? >> what are you going to do? i'm already in line. >> we did find several fans who purchased coupons through an online company called park whiz for half the price. they had filled up hours before the game. >> furtheror the more sensible fan caltrans was coming from the peninsula. workers spent a cool $20 getting a ride on a pedi cab. >> my mom felt kind of lazy but i felt it was really really fun. >> a lot of this is to get people out. 40,000 people. crazy. nonstop. >> reporter: for a few others

riding in on a horse was just part of the job. in san francisco lyanne melendez, abc 7 news. and that is the way you want to get around town. horseback, people get out of the way and traffic is not a problem and take a look at the traffic now with the 360 camera. you are looking live inching along king street and the ballpark is just ahead and drivers are trying to get into the city and as they approach the ballpark it is pretty packed and let me flip it around and see what it looks like. heading this way toward third, but if you're going to the ballpark it's a great day no matter how bad traffic is cheryl. >> you just have to bring your patience. >> and giants fans certainly know how to welcome the world series champions and wayne freedman joins us with the fanfest part of the home opener. >> does baseball season ever end? the party is on again. see all of these people behind me leaving the ballpark? i have to wonder did anybody in the city get any work done today? >> my heart's going to come out of my chest.

>> at at&t park today old habits die hard. it's as if we never passed through late fall or winter. it was a day of blue skies, orange and black fans and a victory lap as the giants played the colorado rockies in their home opener and almost an asterisk. this is what mattered. police on friday night. bridget klecker was an innocent bystander and there were two robbery suspects in the car who have not yet been caught. carolyn tile has more into what happened and why. carolyn? >> reporter: dan police say those robbers were sticking guns in people's faces and stealing their property. when police tried to stop them a few blocks up on california street they say the suspects floored it speeding down the hill injuring one pedestrian and killing san francisco resident bridget klecker. >> these friends heading to the giants home opener are missing a mega fan 42-year-old bridget klecker loved at&t park and she loved the team. >> opening day has for the past several years has been a holiday for us. it's like a religious holiday. >> today, the giants observed a moment of silence in their fan's memory. >> join us in a moment of remembrance as we honor

bridget -- >> i think that she would be floored. it's an amazing tribute. >> bridget was killed friday night, struck in the crosswalk at california and kerney street as police were chasing a car full of men, authorities say had committed at least three armed robberies earlier that night. one witness says the suspect's stolen car became airborne during the pursuit. the victim's friends wonder why there was a chase on a busy friday night. >> it's very irresponsible. >> the choice to chase is not made lightly according to san francisco police chief greg sur. >> we are only allowed to pursue violent felons or someone who -- to not chase them would pose a greater risk to public safety than to chase them. >> bridget's mother told me on the phone from north carolina that we don't want to criticize the police.

the people they were after were very dangerous. they're still at large after ditching their car on treasure island. in san francisco carolyn tyler abc 7 news. >> the san pablo police officer is under arrest this evening after police say he bought heroin and cocaine with a 2-year-old girl in his car. officer kenneth white is charged with four felonies and two misdemeanors. san pablo police say they tipped off the san francisco police department after they learned about white's illegal activities. undercover san francisco police stopped officer white last wednesday during a drug deal. they say they also found illegal weapons in his car. officials say that arrest has shaken the san pablo police department. >> it's been really hard on us to have something like this occur here. we're a small department and everyone kind of knows everyone so for something like this to happen has definitely been troubling for us. >> officer white was on paid administrative leave before that arrest for a separate unrelated incident and he's scheduled to

appear in court tomorrow morning. >> no letup in the traffic nightmare in one of san jose's busiest interchanges and this is a live picture showing the gridlock surrounding interstate 280 and it's been jacked up like this for more than two hours and all because of a man threatening to jump off the overpass and it connects to northbound 680 as well as two overpasses and the captured video of the man looking down at the freeway below, really terrifying and we'll keep you updated throughout the newscast or twitter on nbc 7 news bay area. >> it is over for the day dive teams search the river until conditions become unsafe. it's one of a group driving at high speeds and weaving in and out of traffic yesterday afternoon. the man hit a car and fell 135

feet into the river. the driver of the car involved in the crash remained at the scene. nobody else was hurt. a dublin man is one of three people who died while diving for abalone yesterday off the mend on sinno county coast. he was among a group of diver friends who became trapped by rough waves. a fisherman saw them struggle anding called for help. the two fishermen managed to climb the rocks and they were rescued unharmed and the others were from new jersey and georgia. tonight officials at east bay utility district say clues will be out as long as it takes to clean up a cement spill and cleanup went on this afternoon along the half-mile stretch of the spill near the glen echo creek. last wednesday a valve was left open. during pipeline repair spilling foamy cement into the ground and the underwater portion of the creek, as well. >> one of the things we've done is flushing our jetting water to

francisco, east bay and all the bay area this is abc 7 news. the drought has moved up fire season and cal fire is hiring seasonal firefighters early. some are warning 2015 could be an epic fire season. david rowie joins us from explain. >> cheryl cal fire chiefs are saying a lot will depend on weather conditions including wind. brush are dry and are expected to be tinder dry by this time next month and that's the fuel that creates major wild land fires. >> this is the first batch of about 100 seasonal firefighters cal fire has hired for the tough season ahead in santa clara county. they've returned to duty after working last fire season. 30 more have been hired for the first time. >> we'll be looking out,

planning for as worse as it possibly could be and there will be dry conditions. >> while it's only mid-april the state has logged 651 wild land fires. 50% higher than normal and here's why. the drought has dried out grasses that are usually green in the spring and the drought has brushed out trees and brush that are die drying, creating wild land fires and that's one of the few lessons the seasonal firefighters will tackle in training and we'll talk about the fuel moisture that we're experiencing right now. they're a lot sonner than they have in years past and we plan for that when we can respond to fires. >> fire season is about 60 days early this year and this map shows in red the areas forecast to have substantial wild land firepot earn next month. the east and south bay regions are klein clueded. cal fire had the national guard,

cal fire is stressing it needs help from homeowners as well. >> we need the help from everybody -- from the public to do their part and provide defensible space around their property. that is really the key to being able to utilize our resources most effectively. >> seasonal firefighters will boost the number of engines from eight to 12 at the santa clara unit. in morgan hill david louie, abc 7 news. demonstrators gathered at the state capital in support for health care for undo you wantedcumented immigrants. >> the group supports a bill called health care for all that would expand health care access to more than 1 million undocumented immigrants in the state. >> my dad works in construction. he has suffered major physical injuries and because of our status a lot of those injuries have not been treated in the hospital and those that have we've had to wait hours in the emergency room just to get someone to look at him.

>> the health care legislation is one of ten bills and the controversial immigrant shape america package recently introduced by state democrats. the package also includes efforts to extend legal rights and business protections. >> the country's last residential program for teens with alcohol and drug problems is in danger of closing and today staff and former clients. the staff demonstrated outside the center which treats 250 teens a year and they're trying to convince the senator to keep the treatment center open. thunder road has absorbed nearly $1 million a year. >> they're not for profit so they should be able to maintain part of this as charity care or as part of their tax-exempt status. >> in a statement, it has found another provide tore keep the center open, but that provider backed out and now it's negotiating with alameda county to determine the future of thunder road. a flight in los angeles made

an emergency landing because an airline employee was trapped inside the plane's cargo hold. the flight from seattle heard banging from beneath the plane immediately after takeoff. the plane returned to seattle where the ramp agent was discovered inside the cargo hold. alaska airlines says that part of the plane is pressurized and temperature controlled. the ramp agent was taken to the hospital as a precaution. >> you don't hear that very often. >> if you get set up with the air travel you are not alone. >> so true. 7 on your side's michael finney is here with consumer news. >> it seems like it's gotten worse. airline passengers know flying is more of a drag now than it used to be and there are numbers that prove it today. the wichita state university study shows more flights are late, more bags are lost and customers are launching more complaints, 22% more last year than the year before. at least 76% of flights arrive

on time and the rate of lost, stolen or late bags rose 13% last year. it rose in american, united, delta and southwest and the worst marks are going to regional carriers. i've been warning you for a couple of years now that filing early is the best defense against the stolen tax refund scam and that's when thieves steal your social security number and file a fake tax return. now we know how long it will take to unwind this mess and get your refund if you're a victim. >> the first thing you have to do is notify the irs and file a police report and then you're going to be asked to file an affidavit of fraud and it will take about 120 extra days before you're going to get your refund. >> you can go online and track your refund at the irs.gov site. if what you see on the site isn't what you know to be

san francisco and oakland airport is at 60 degrees and san jose, 64 and in san jose we're seeing a mix of sun and high clouds. the temperature got up into the 60s today and mid-60s for the high so far and santa rosa is 68 degrees and napa 61 and 64 in livermore and nothing, but blue skies from the camera looking toward the financial district and spotty drizzle is possible tonight and we're looking at breezy conditions tomorrow and warmer days beginning on wednesday and here is a look at the cold front and it's a weak system for us and so what is it going to do? i'll show you here in just a moment and a big warm up begins on wednesday once the front passes through and as we look at the computer animation and clouds around at 7:00 p.m. could see some spotty drizzle as we head into the 11:00 p.m. hour and then the breeze kicks up again tomorrow morning as you head out for your commute with those clouds clearing away by the afternoon and wednesday is when we'll start this warming trend. temperatures mainly in the 07s

and 80s as we head toward thursday and beach weather will be heading into the 80s inland and by friday we are talking about near 90 inland and temperatures along the coast primarily in the 70s. so it's going to be a big warm up there. tomorrow morning cool enough in the 40s to where you will need a jacket so don't forget it. bundle up the little ones as they head off to school and then for the afternoon it is staying cool and breezy for most of the bay area which means i would hang on to a light sweater or jacket and 68 in santa rosa tomorrow and 69 napa, 69 san francisco and livermore, 67 degrees and 68 in san jossy and 60 in half moon bay and definitely a breezy one with blue skies as you look at the accuweather seven-day forecast and we'll add to the inland highs and mid-60s to low 80s and it's beach weather on thursday and the heat will actually peak with near 90 inland on friday

history did not get off the ground. just minutes before launch they scrubbed the rocket launch because of storm clouds. the mission would have delivered cargo to the international space station. it would have been space x's second attempt at the historic landing at the platform floating in the ocean. its next opportunity to launch is tomorrow afternoon. the long-did yousscussed plan to connect alpine to squaw meadows. it has reached an agreement to buy the land between the resorts to create a base to base gondola connection. it would make it easier for skiers and riders to make it easy for both without needing to travel the two by car. the project must be approved by placer county and u.s. forest service before construction can begin. a familiar face is back at the golden gate bridge and we're talking about the fate of a giant flock that has been above the toll plaza since 1949. the clock was removed last
