good morning to you. i'm reena ninan. >> i'm ryan smith in for t.j. holmes. we begin with the scare in seattle. a ground worker trapped in the cargo hole of a jet. >> you can hear him banging beneath passenger seats in this new video. [ banging noise ] moments later, the pilot took swift action. here's abc's neal karlinsky. >> reporter: it was just after takeoff when the pilot of this alaska airlines 737 says he heard screaming and banging coming from underneath the plane. >> i think we have a -- hearing a noise from the baggage compartment. >> reporter: the flight headed from seattle to los angeles. but the airline says flight 448 returned back to seattle shortly after departure after it was discovered that a ramp agent was still in the cargo hold. on the runway just after landing, you can see him being taken to a waiting ambulance. an airport worker who told

authorities amazingly, he fell asleep in the cargo hold, waking, to his horror, inside, as the plane was taking off. the cargo hold underneath the plane is pressurized and temperature controlled. but that worker, panicked and surprised, screamed and banged for help like his life depended on it. >> we started yelling at the flight attendant. the flight attendant called the pilot. two air marshals got up out of their seats right in front of me and started taking control of the flight. >> reporter: the plane was in the air 14 minutes. when it declared an emergency and turned around. >> at some point, a u.s. marshal emerged out of nowhere. he was sitting in first class. he started yelling really loud into the ground, hey, we're turning around. we're getting ready to land. hold on to something. yeah. it was pretty crazy. >> reporter: authorities are investigating. at this point, they do not expect any charges to be filed. the airport worker in question is just lucky that the pilot and passengers on board actually heard him calling for help.

he's expected to be just fine, though likely pretty embarrassed. neal karlinsky, abc news, seattle. the gulf and southern states are bracing for thunderstorms and rain this morning. >> a drenching three inches of rain could fall from new orleans to atlanta. it could be wet in the southern plains and up through the northeast, lasting a few days. >> the slow-moving front drenched texas on monday. roads in lubbock turned into rivers. police were called out to rescue several drivers. today's weather is trouble for the morning commute and for air travel, too. accuweather meteorologist justin povick has the details. good morning, justin. >> reena and ryan, thanks and good morning. another wet start to the day. another wet finish to the day over the south plains and the gulf coast states with low pressure only moving very, very slowly. there is potential for flash flooding around houston, new orleans, interstate 10 with ponding to deal with. major delays at local airports. which will stretch all the way into the southeast. atlanta, the carolinas, perhaps

it wants in charge but what kind of country are we going to want to be? >> reporter: wasting no time blasting hillary clinton, referring to clinton as yesterday. on the democrats' side for now, hillary clinton is the only announced candidate. and a heavy favorite. but says she is not taking anything for granted. >> i'm hitting the road to earn your vote. >> reporter: clinton kicked off her campaign with this video. the focus? not on her. but on people she calls everyday americans. and with a road trip to iowa. along the way, keeping a low profile. she went unrecognized in dark sunglasses inside this chipotle in ohio. so far, four candidates are in. analysts say, expect more. but the game plan is set. >> barack obama in one corner, hillary clinton in the other. that's who the republicans are going to be positioning against for the better part of the next year. >> reporter: as for clinton, she arrived in iowa late last night. today, she'll meet with small groups of voters. the everyday americans she says

her campaign is all about. ryan and reena? >> elizabeth hur, thank you so much, elizabeth. another story we're following this morning, the charges filed against a volunteer reserve deputy after a confrontation with a black suspect. this happened on april 2nd. police in tulsa chasing a suspect who allegedly tried to sell an illegal gun to an undercover officer. during the struggle, police say a 73-year-old reserve sheriff's deputy mistakenly pulled out his handgun instead of his taser and shot the suspect. 44-year-old eric harris died an hour later. prosecutors have charged robert bates with second-degree manslaughter. if he's convicted, he could face up to four years in prison. at a news conference yesterday, the victim's brother says he doesn't believe the shooting was racially motivated. new audio recordings have been released from the immediate aftermath of the deadly police shooting in south carolina. just moments after officer michael slager shot and killed

walter scott, he is heard taking a cell phone call believed to be from his wife he says he just shot someone and is telling her everything is okay. >> probably when you get home, probably be a good idea to kind of jot down your thoughts on what happened. >> okay. >> you know, once your adrenaline quits pumping. >> it's pumping. >> oh, yeah, oh, yeah. oh, yeah. >> investigators say they're reviewing the actions of every officer who responded to the scene. they're also trying to determine if and when cpr was performed on scott. jodi arias has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of her lover. the victim's family members had urged the judge to give her the death penalty. arias apologized for the pain she caused them and said she was repulsed by what she did. after the sentencing, her attorney said arias was in good spirits and ready to begin the next part of her life. and president obama lil soon check out south dakota from the list of states he's visited. he'll delivers a commencement address in watertown next month.

metal framework outside the dallas museum of art. and it just topples the load. that crane crashes down on the museum. the operator seen flying from the cab. amazingly, he was the only person injured, suffering a cut to his head. school officials in spokane are getting tough on vaccinations. nearly 150 students were removed from class when they couldn't prove they had the necessary shots. that number could rise. four districts have reviewed their policies. a frightening incident to show you. you should know, the guy involved is fine. the car slides on the wet track. sending the guy flying. thank goodness he was wearing a helmet. despite how bad it looks, incredibly, todd phillips posted on facebook that he was able to walk away with just six stitches. flipped over on his head. >> remarkable video. in the nba, just two nights left of games in the regular season. playoff implications abound. tonight and tomorrow night. then it's all over. >> there's still plenty to play

and here is the video of the crashed cars. they are totaled. one black toyota was stolen and being chased by police. police made an arrest in the case. the man ran away with the help of a police dog they found him. it started at cheesecake factory where another car accident happened. a good samaritan stopped to help those involved. someone noticed the good samaritan's unattended car hopped in it and drove away much in the efforts to chase the vehicle, the car reached speeds up to suffer miles per hour. it ended up crabbing right here and they were able to get the suspect. he was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries from the car crash and from dog bites. today, a san pablo police
