i think that's not going to happen, but we're not goigs to go away. >> they say they will continue to use their contacts in rome to prep the vatican for change. >> in san francisco leon melendez, abc 7 news. >> a concord man is accuses of molesting a little girl left in his care. joaquin sierra la cruise is accused of molesting the girl when she was just 6 years old. police also expect charges regarding a different girl will be filed next week. the incident occurred in 2008 while he and his wife were taking care of children many. san mateo police want your help identifying a man who flashed a woman while she was on her evening jog. it happened last night around 6:00 near east third avenue and detroit drive. a half naked man reached out and tried to grab ahold of her the jogger screamed and was able to scare the man away. if you see anyone who looks like this man pictured in the sketch

please call the san mateo police immediately. >> if you were outside today, you noticed those temperatures. it's making for some great beach weather. also causing a few problems. katie joins us with a look at all that windy weather. >> you have your hair back to make sure, right? >> yes. let's start with the good news, it is gorgeous out here, like a postcard postcard, i'm going to get out of the way, so you can drink it in and enjoy it with us, the sky is blue, the water is blue, there are kitesurfers, people flying kites. kids are in the water people are sun bathing it's really like a commercial for california, the down side is the wind. so take a look at what happened in oakland today near lake merit. a large tree fell on a car as a woman was driving by. the oakland fire department tells us it is possible the wind is to blame. also though, on scene, people were pointing out to us that the tree had shallow roots.

we were able to talk with the driver, she told us what happened after she was safely out of the car she is okay. she's also very lucky. the tree crushed her back seat a few inches or a few seconds difference and this story could have a very different ending. >> all of a sudden it was falling on my car, on me. i hit the brakes i stopped and it's -- i don't know it felt like it kept caving into my car. it felt a lot slower than it was was. i was wondering if it was going to hit my head or what. >> despite the beach weather, the ocean is not going to be all fun and games this weekend. the coast guard is warning boaters and beach goers there will be strong swells, this is tomorrow through saturday night and that means large breakers and the possibility of sneaker waves. if you're going to be out on the water or even on the beach, always be aware and be very careful. live in san francisco, abc 7

news. >> very good advice katie. thanks very much. a so called wind and heat are factors today let's check in with our meteorologist she's outside with the latest on the forecast. >> it is warm out here, let me show you the wind direction right now, it is northerly to 25. this is the offshore flow at half moon bay that brought us the warmth in the bay area, the gusty winds combined with drought stricken trees could be responsible for that tree that katie was talking about. it has been a warm day all around from coast to inland, take a look at the highs so far, 82 oakland, santa rosa. san jose, antioch, 79 in san francisco. 75 in half moon bay and even some 80s up around ukiah, clover dale and clear lake. changes are coming, and that includes cooler weather, i'll let you know who's going to cool off, it's not going to be everyone, starting tomorrow. cheryl? >> thank you so much.

>> you heard sandia and katie talk about if you were planning on cooling down at the beach please be careful. >> the northern california coast is going to see large swells friday and saturday. it could produce those deadly sneaker waves. bigger and stronger than regular waves and they can and have dragged people into the ocean. one san francisco woman tells us she learned it the hard way. >> just came right up on my back. it slammed me on to the bottom of the bay. and my shoulder. >> the coast guard is warning beach goers not to turn their backs in the ocean. sneaker waves can come in without any warning and please keep an eye on your pets as well. a tragic end to a search for a hiker from palo alto. don myers went to the regional park yesterday and never came home. this afternoon, a body was found. tiffany wilson has late breaking details. tiffany? >> that body matches don myers

description. certainly not the outcome that search crews and his family were hoping for and at this point everyone is just waiting on the corner to confirm what they already suspect. search crews scaled the mountain. he left with extra water and snacks, and his wife expected him home for a late lunch, he snefr showed. she got worried and called the east bear regional park district. myers car is still parked near the trail head about a note from search crews, tucked under the windshield wipers. 50 people spent hours looking through the rugged terrain, both last night and starting at first light this morning. shortly after 2:00 p.m. the discovery everyone hoped to avoid. >> our helicopter was circling one of the highest peaks in the area. they located what appeared to be a body. >> only the coroner can make a

positive identification. officials say the body matches myers description. lieutenant lance brees says they're not sure what happened, but foul play is not a factor. >> it was one of the highest peaks in the area, there is loose footing up there but it would be speculative at this point to determine whether or not he fell or what not. >> well the investigation will determine that. >> this photo shows the area where the body was found many a representative from the coroner's office is now in route to the park. myers lived in palo alto he loved to volunteer with abilities united. in president anton, tiffany wilson abc 7 news. a 23-year-old man has been arrested after a deadly crash at san jose. christian clemens was driving down north capitol avenue. rolled it over on to the tracks just before 10:00 last night. two of his passengers were killed. three others were injured. witnesses say it was a scary

scary scene. >> there was a train which was approaching, and then there were two people who actually took the step to go ahead and stop the train. it is pretty dramatic. >> how sad, 24-year-old sean johnson and reginald sterling were killed. alcohol was found inside that suv. officers arrested clemens on suspicion of driving under the influence. an offramp in daily city is opening again, a man crashed exiting 280 this morning. we were on the scene just after 11:00 on the john daly offramp. no word on why the driver lost control like this no other cars were involved. crews spent until just before 3:00 repairing the damaged guardrail. a san francisco firefighter was in serious condition after falling sick during training today. it happened just before 11:00 this morning during training at treasure island.

a mother in oakland. the d.a. charged a 16-year-old in last month's killing -- he will be prosecuted as an adult. pierce died while trying to shield her children from a shootout in west oakland. police have arrested six other suspects. the d.a. says more arrests could come. we're not done there. it turns out another suspect in that case was arrested as part of a nationwide sweep of violent felons by u.s. marshalls and state and local law enforcement agencies. the operation netted more than 100 high risk fugitives. vic lee was embedded with the task force for part of the operation, and tweeted out this picture today. he's in the newsroom with more on the story. >> 137 were arrested from warrants issued here in the bay area. nationwide, the multiagency task force made 7,000 arrests. the target? gang members. sex offenders and the most violent of criminals, the operation went on 24/7 for a month and a half.

>> 40 caliber semiautomatic handgun. >> for the past six weeks, u.s. marshalls with the task force of federal, state and law enforcement agencies fanned out, targeting violent felons 37 we were embedded in oakland where numerous arrests were made. this person was taken into custody at a trailer park. >> underlying charges were assault with a deadly weapon. assault with a deadly weapon. >> when team members searched this home they also found methamphetamine. 137 fugitives and gang members from the east bay were arrested. some captured in other states. >> these arrests approximately 23 were affiliated with gangs. 27 guns were recovered and a large amount of drugs. >> six of the arrests were murder suspect the. >> among them alex davis. he was one of the suspects wanted in the murder of an oakland mother killed in the

crossfire of a gang shooting. of the 137 arrests, 60 were wanted for crimes in oakland. >> we were there in that city when federal agents and police took several people into custody at this home, they were looking for gang members as well as a gun used in a murder. oakland police chief thanked the marshalls for helping his understaffed department. >> the oakland police department resources are stretched thin and there's constantly demands for services on our city streets. >> operation violence reduction brought in federal agents from all over the country. 13 different federal state and local agencies participated. >> vic lee, abc 7 news. a 20-year-old north bay man has been sentenced to nine years in jail for a fraudulent credit card spree. the woman and her friend used fake credit cards to buy thousands of dollars worth of gift cards at safeway up and down the coast. they also used credit cards to

rent this card a mclaren sports car and a $12 million vacation home. when he asked the judge for leniency because of his youth. the judge said to him, you're young, but you are not a child. the oakland a's and firefighters are stepping up to the plate to help heyward little leaguers hit hard -- the oakland a's and firefighters teamed up to donate $2,000 to the little league. they broke into the clubhouse and stole the safe with $7,000 from their annual fund-raiser. someone probably knew that money was there. the donation will cover the insurance deductible from that theft. the golden state warriors are going to the postseason with one of the nba's best records ever. which is great for the team. fans may want to see a playoff game. wayne freedman joins us now from downtown oakland where you talk to some of the game's greats.

live coverage begins at noon right here on abc 7. and that will be immediately followed by a special edition of after the game. a lack of water is being blamed for the deaths of 250 elk in marin county. the elk died inside a fenced preserve at point reys national sea shore. more than 750 elk had lived in the preserve during that time, the center for biological diversity says the area does not have a year round water source. at the same time the population of elk living right outside the preserve, more than triple those elk are allowed to roam free. the california city center being asked to cut their water use for calling it unfair and unrealistic. governor brown met with officials to talk about efforts to conserve. he believes the state has to come up with other ideas to help people save water in their homes and businesses. >> the board is expected to update its plan tomorrow.

solving the world's water crisis is the topic of a conference now underway in oakland. i had the pleasure of talking to the groups as part of the women in public service project. started by hillary clinton in 2011. we talked about ways to access the media, how to get their message out quickly on a budget using smart phones and social media. the program is called the women's water and the world institute. it brings together emerging leaders for more than 25 countries. >> fascinating. so great to meet them. >> you're an expert. good job. i mean on finding the access is terrific. >> there is no real rain in the forecast. there maybe is a hint. >> our expert on the weather. >> we have a slight chance of showers coming up, it's not yet. it's next week. out here it is still warm. and everyone's feeling the heat here in the bay area let me show you live doppler 7 hz. also bright and sunny just about everywhere, as you take a look at our radar here no

scientists found a world war ii ship in tact. it's 30 miles off the coast of half moon bay. a sonar vehicle produced a colorful image of this ship. it spent 64 years on the sea floor. the ship served a critical role in the naval offensive during world war ii. after it was damaged it was used in anatomic bomb test. the ship returned to san francisco for studies on decontamination. in 1951, the navy towed the damaged ship out to sea. it's one of an estimated 300 wrecks near san francisco. interesting picture. bliz owners are selling their goods in a pop-up shop for gender wage equality in pennsylvania. the shop is called 76/100.
